Lukaku was celebrating Martial's goal even before Martial kicked the ball. He is probably best at taking penalties at ManUtd.

Herrera - 2/2 (100%)
Rashford - 3/3 (100%)
Zlatan - 69/79 (87.3%)
Martial - 6/7 (85.7%)
Mkhitaryan - 6/7 (85.7%)
Pogba - 5/6 (83.3%)
Mata - 10/14 (71.4%)
Lukaku - 11/16 (68.8%)
Young - 5/8 (62.5%)
Carrick - 0/1 (0%)
Lindelof - 0/1 (0%)
Lingard - 0/1 (0%)

He does have a good record. Rashford and Mkhitaryan haven't taken one in years but theirs are good too. The penalty Martial missed was at Monaco.

Thank you, yeah I read for ManUtd it's 6/6 for Martial. When did Rashford score from the spot? Is it for reserves?

If he can just bring that swagger and intensity to starting a game! He's two completely different player coming off the bench as compared to starting a game.

Absolutely an amazing talent!

The reason being when he comes on the game is open and there is space for him. It was a great run but this doesn't prove he is a better option on the left compared to Rashford, like some in here are claiming.

Records purely for United's first team @roonster09

Martial - 3/3 (100%)
Herrera - 2/2 (100%)
Pogba - 1/1 (100%)
Mata - 3/4 (75%)
Zlatan - 3/4 (75%)
Lukaku - 0/1 (0%)
Carrick - 0/1 (0%)

How do you get all these stats and so quick? Are you a bot like they have in reddit? :D

Ah, this again. I'm sure some think that Rashford and Martial's respective performances on Sunday are further testimony to the theory that Rashford should be playing from the start and Martial coming from the bench.

In fact, if the idea is both are best from the bench, perhaps we should start Lingard every week, and have Rashford and Martial battle for who will come from the bench. That seems to be where the real action is at anyway.

Did really well. Think he should have been introduced earlier. Got barely 5 min and was impressive. He is also a very good finisher. Hope he can put in a few consistent performances so that he can become a permanent starter.

That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm talking about impact when the game is closer and teams are sitting deeper. Rashford's movement is just better. Rashford did not play well against Everton anyway. Martial coming on when the game is open and there is space does not make his movement better that Rashford's. Simple.

You are correct. He is not better at 'movement' than Rashford. It seems that this has become the criteria to earn selection this season, however.

Martial has to be good when he starts and not only when he is subbed in.

We do have some decent pen takers it seems. I think I like the way Herrera takes them more than any other player despite being one of the least experienced in games.

He needs more starts then. And he's been fine when he starts. I think what people mean is he needs to score from the start, not the bench. He's performed nowhere near as awfully as Rashford did yesterday for a start.

You would have thought he'd just stayed still after his header to Lingard, the way people talk about his movement on here.

Said the other day, he has good movement from a striker's perspective, not necessarily for a winger though. All of his goals this season have been a result of good movement and off the ball running.

The reason he isn't starting is because his movement isn't good enough off the left. Rashford is just simply better in that aspect. You don't need such great off the ball movement to score when the game is open and there is space, it's easier for Martial to score. Even Rashford came on and scored vs Basel. That's not what gets him into the team ahead of Martial though. Even Mourinho spoke about Lukaku's all round play rather than just focusing on his goals. Yeah it's nice Martial scores off the bench when the context of the game has been changed by others. I'm not saying he cant do it. Maybe he is working on his movement. Mourinho obviously prefers Rashford for a reason. He sees them train every day. I acknowledge Rashford had a bad game yesterday as well, that's not the point though.

Movement seems to be the only relevant currency on the caf this season all of a sudden. Two forward players aren't simply put together and judged based on movement. What about the other aspects that Martial is 'simply better' in? These are also important attributes for a forward.

Rashford is a lot more dynamic, offers more on the outside, better work rate, and is better at whipping balls in (seen this with Mourinho giving him corners and freekicks, and also comments on his kicking technique). Martial is the better dribbler and finisher. Movement is one of the most important aspects though, especially playing in that almost inside forward position.

I thought his stats said 6 in 6 now.

Shame he doesnt start every game, he is a fantastic player, deserves more minutes and starts. Having him in top form and firing, not only from the bench, would be excellent.

I am surprised to read so many comments that Martial played well when he was a sub because the game has opened up and it's easier to play/score.

Under LVG, he was constantly tightly marked by 2 or 3 defenders and he played to a very high standard. Obviously, under Mourinho he was being used differently and he was below par last season.

Martial is a young player that needs lots of encouragement and chances to build up his confidence to perform consistently. I still feel that his ceiling is higher than Rashford and he should start consistently. We have a world class potential player in the making and hope we get it right.

he's only taken 2. he's not of the list due to him being 100% from those 2.

He needs to start performing when he starts. It's that simple.

He did perform perfectly well against Leicester, won a pen, should have an assist from open play. Basel is the only mediocre game from him this season.

The myth that he's incapable of performing as a starter this season is quite mind boggling.

He just needs to start, whether he performs or not is not going to be any different than the rest of the starters (who have all had the odd game or two where they did not perform without losing their starting status). I think right now, every one agrees he and Rashford are more effective coming off the bench, but Rashford has started more games than Martial and had a pretty awful last game. So Martial should get the nod for a run of games and I expect Rashford to make an impact off the bench. They both fire each other up by coming off the bench. The only difference between the two is that Martial has actually shown he can be one of our best players as a starter under LvG, it's a different team now but let's not act like we couldn't use that Martial on the left wing of this team, and I think this season he is past whatever had him down last season.

He needs a decent run of starts. He's a better player than Rashford at this point imo but he doesn't work anywhere near as hard. He can close that gap any time he wants to. Frustrating.

he's a better player than rashford right now, and he will be in the future too. you can just tell on the eye watching the two. he should be starting.

AM and Rashford will be world class if they stay at MU. I just don't see them leaving. I think Rashford has better fitness. Jose knows this so puts in AM at times when he is not trying to tire opposing side.

It's such a weird case this. Martial is better than Rashford up top but neither of them will get to play their much this season or most of the upcoming seasons with Lukaku just having signed.

That means that they will predominantly play from the left for their time with us unless 1 of them makes it obvious they are better through the middle than Lukaku, (would have to be a run there due to injury etc.)

Now for the LW position Martial a is so obviously much more suited it's unreal, he offers a dribbling technique that Rashford won't ever get close to as it's just not his natural game.

The only aspects Martial lacks in is work rate closing down the defenders, (definitely massive signs of improvement this season) and off the ball movement. However, it seems he has been working on this aswell. Against Basel there were so many times he could have been played in running behind the defence when Mhki went the opposite direction or straight into a man. Also, there has been much more of him passing the ball inside and chasing his pass to provide an overload in the middle. (Most of his goals seem to come from this)

Overall I'd say the things Martial lacks that Rashford possesses will be much easier for him to pick up than the other way around.

Serious question, how do you get AM, Rashford and Lukaku into the side without one playing in a position that massively hinders them?

I think that playing on the left suits Martial pretty well. If he starts on a constant Basis he might become one of the best at this Position.
In case we will Keep playing him only 10 minutes each game he will see the Exit next summer. He has too much Talent to not be a starter for a big Club.
And he Needs to start to get the inconsistency out of his game.

I think he could be an excellent LW or an excellent ST, the problem comes that he wants to play upfront. The only way I see that changing is if he can form a deadly front 3 for France with Mbappe and Dembele. He might then see it as best for his career.

I'd be interested to see a comparison of when the goals have been scored whenever Martial and Rashford start or come on.

Martial has been poor whenever he has started but my assumption is that if we somehow grabbed an early goal whenever he starts, it could open up the space for him to have a good performance overall whereas what we have seen is tumescent performances and us facing two lines of defence. Not saying he himself hasn't been a factor in that but all it could take is maybe one game where luck plays a part and he gets that good performance from the start and kick on to be the regular for the LW spot.

As of right now, both him and Rashford have been ruining their own chances of securing that starting berth.

Not sure where this 'deserves' comes from. He needs to take opportunities more to deserve things.
Did well as a sub for a few games, so he deserves to be a sub and eventually a start. Do well when you start - deserve to start.
This could go on for another 3 years before anything changes. Do we just play him regardless so he gets a run of games?
