That's good to hear, but reading the article, I don't see the basis of it changing our transfer plans? We will probably still go after another attack minded player. It talks about Griezmann, Perisic and Bale, but they dont even play in the same positions.
Probably just that we won't go for periosic. Though I'd guess young had an impact on that too. I do think mourinhos main concern will be the right flank/#10 (or someone who can play both). Griezmann could work though he rarely plays right. A front 3 of griezmann behind martial and lukaku/rashford could be class though.

Jeez so according to that article sources say Jose was interested in swapping him for Peresic but the club hierarchy wouldn’t allow it. Thank god for that then.

You talk as if Martial is better than Dembele. If Dembele stays fit the right flank is his. The only young attacker in the world i consider having better technical skills and gifts than Martial is Dembele (Mbappe is incredible but it's his maturity and intelligence which make him special)

France should adapt a 41212 system. Everyone can be involved them.

He’s got plenty going for him, no doubt about it.

But as with many players of this generation, so far away from the scary consistency of an Henry...who would routinely start and finish 45-50 games a season, in his prime at a high level. The mental strength of players of this generation at all clubs is poor imo.

But you are talking about Henry at his prime, Martial isn't there yet. Jose used to treat a 21/22 year old Ozil the same, he didn't finish many games for Madrid in the early days.

Delany chats shite.
Martial and Mourinho both said they had a convo over the summer and leaving never came into the question.

Mourinho's substitution strategy during his time here doesn't leave much room for Martial (or any of our players behind the striker) to finish games anyway. Last season when fit, Zlatan and Pogba weren't subbed, and the substitutions came from the attacking midfielders/central midfielders unless a defender was injured. Strategy has been pretty much the same this season though exchange Zlatan for Lukaku.

I'm sure Martial is capable of playing 90 minutes but I think Jose wants to push him and keep that fire in Martial's belly. When he starts games, Martial tends to be the first/second player subbed with 20-30 mins left of games but when subbed on, Martial tends to be second/first player subbed on with 10-20 mins left. I'm sure Jose rates him highly and it is a tactic to keep him motivated/feeling he needs to prove something like Martial said in an interview before.

Or he doesn't want to substitute lukaku - if anybody needs fire in the belly its him not martial

And that is sad. He is surely better than coman. It would be a shame if he doesn't go to russia 2018.
I dont rate Coman personally. I think he is too thick as a footballer. Martial has a decent chance tbh. If he keeps working hard and performing he has a chance, even if small.
It is all about opportunities.
Take Umtiti for instance, he benefited from a lot of injuries in the Euros, had a good tournament, is bought by France, starts for them and is regularly called up for France.
Martial needs a good break to work in his favor

Umtiti is one of the best CB talents I have seen in a while it was only a matter of time, It will happen with Martial as well and hopefully soon as that team could be very entertaining at Russia18.

Need to keep half an eye on his contract situation too. If he keeps this up, he should be getting a new one by the end of the season moving him j to the £100/150k + club.

After this season he’ll have just one (plus an option for one more) left - which may be fine for Fellaini or a 30 something, but not a position we want to be going into with a 21/22 year old who is one of the best young forwards in world football.

There are no sure things in football, if Umtiti didn't play in the Euros, he wouldn't have gotten the exposure that allowed him to shine and be signed by Barca (even if they were following him before tbh). There are plenty of great talents in the world, sometimes a little bit of luck (followed obviously by the player grasping his chance) is all that is needed.

Everyone needs a break of some sort of course, but such talents are more likely to force their way through than normal.

Yeah. Every month I record all the mins played to prepare player on the month thread, most common theme is all his defenders, midfielders and striker play 90 mins, attacking 3 behind striker are subbed out almost every game.

All hail the great statsman :wenger:

This business of waiting till a player has almost a year left on their contract doesn't sit well with me.
It would be stupid if we aren't already telling Martial and Dave's agents to let us sit and discuss terms.

What a clinical finisher this guy is. To put into perspective how clinical he is, in the premier league, he has 6 goals from 16 shots. Lukaku has 8 from 51, Rashford 5 from 30.

Think I've read somewhere that he has 6 in 8 shots on target this season. That's indeed clinical.

He has a pretty clean way of striking the ball. I'm not surprised he's clinical.

The key is composure. It’s probably fairly ‘easy’ to score goals if you pick your spot. When the moment comes though, few are as calm and collected.

His goal against Watford for example - I could easily see Lukaku or Rashford really blasting it and it just as easily going well over the bar or being scuffed well wide. With Martial’s finishing, it’s all very deliberate. Some others, especially younger forwards, give you the impression their shots could just as easily fly out for a throw in than into the top corner.

The only issue I have with his finishing is that it's basically always the same shot. So it works beautifully when it's a quick move in the box followed by a quick shot before the keeper can cover the angle, but when he is 1v1 from the left angle with some time for the keeper to come out and block the angle, I wish he would look at dribbling the keeper or finishing with his left. Those are the shots that have been stopped and will most likely continue to be stopped. I feel, at this point, every GK knows what to expect when they're faced with him, it doesn't mean they'll be able to do much about it but it helps.

With basically the same striking tekkers all the time.
As long as the ball keeps touching the back of the net, I won't have any problems with it. And neither will Mou, I think. If you see his goals, they are all about timing and precise placement. Very difficult to stop even if you know where the ball is going. Look at Robben, GKs haven't yet found a way to stop them if even after a decade of play.

Robben has shown more variations to his strikes to be fair, but I see your point.

So has Anthony, I think he is keeping it simple but effective for now. But he will have to evolve his finishing techniques in the future if he does become a no. 9. But, that ice cold composure. It's truly something spectacular to watch.

I think Jose's intention is rotating Martial - Rashford by the measure he had successfully applied to duo Benzema - Higuain at Real 2011-12. He will substitute one to another almost every matches, but the overall context is positive.

While maintaining competitive flame, both Benzema - Higuain were still having decent minutes, rapidly progressing, scoring load of goals (approximately 30 in my memory), directly contributing to superb record of 121 goals in La Liga - the tally mighty Barcelona teams over last two decades couldnt match.

Meaning that method is not harmful at all.

Scenes here if he doesn't start Saturday.

If he doesn't the wrong will be with Jose, not the ones of us making a scene.

He clearly should start due to his form and contribution, and I think he will since Jose subbed him early on.

He will for sure. Just remember some matches in Carabao Cup at early stage. When Jose used both Martial and Rashford in starting squad, he substituted the one who will start the next Premier League matches in minute 60-70. The other player played full game.

So does starting Martial and non-starting Lingard (almost full game against Watford) arrangement vs Arsenal

Martial will start against Arsenal. Martial has played himself above Rashford on the LW. We played two games with Martial and Rashford at the same time and Rashford was played out of position. There is no grudge between the two, Martial is improving and getting more games for his work.

Martial is clearly a better choice than Rashford currently. If Martial doesn't start against Arsenal I will be grumpy. :p
