Fellaini causes a penalty right after being subbed on and loses us big points, he is a great player and gets a one year extension. Pogba plays shite against Liverpool and wasn't much better vs Stoke, best midfielder in the world and gets picked every time.

Martial does slightly less than OK vs 3 men swarming around him everytime he had thhe ball against Liverpool: needs to improve and didn't grab his chance.

Yeah ok. He will de bruyne him and gets scored a hattrick on when we meet Martial again as a superstar for a huge club. IF the guy is still our manager by then.

Don't understand Mourinho's gripe with Martial.

1. He hasn't been given a consistent run of games.
2. He's not actually been that bad. He was decent vs LFC. He actually gives us a proper counter attacking which we don't have when Mata/Mkhitaryan.

3. Let's be perfectly honest. Can you honestly tell me Mkhitaryan/Mata/Rooney/Lingard have been that that amazing. Majority of them are bottling chances every week. While Martial and Rashford hardly get a chance and they always look fantastic running at defenders.

I find that sometimes Mkhitaryan/Mata/Rooney/Lingard try to be too cute and clever most chances break down, final pass is not there. We look a bit more of a direct and aggressive threat with Rashford/Martial involved.

I hope this sorts out soon. Because Martial should be a starter on the LW. Mourinho has also not helped matters by sticking Darmian behind Martial when he does get the odd game. Martial has his best games with Blind at LB. I'm confident Luke Shaw would help him just as much.

With Mkhitaryan/Mata and co missing sitters in the Premier League as we continue to draw games. Not sure why Martial is getting the boot kicks. When the others have been embarrassing in front of goal. Considering we need someone to put the ball in the net, you think having a 17 goal winger would help.

Mkhitaryan has looked good in flashes but his finishing leaves a lot to be desired and I don't think having slow striker like ibrahimovic does anything for him. He probably prefer someone with pace who could get on the end of his through balls.

Also a shame we don't ever see Martial/Rashford used as Strikers. Ibrahimovic has been fantastic but he is also very one dimensional. All those draws are not just bad luck it's also the price we pay for having Ibrahimovic playing every minute up front. We sometimes miss having Rashford or that forward with pace running in behind asking different questions.

I hope Martial gets an opportunity soon I don't think he's been as bad as Mourinho thinks he is, and He is overrating a lot players that are starting ahead of him at the moment they've not been all that special.

Martial has been given more chances than Mhikitaryan and also Mata this season. Mata is comfortably ahead in terms of goal contribution.

Martial has started the following home games. Arsenal Spurs Liverpool, he has been the go to man at home in the big home games, he just hasn't performed as well as he could.

I completely agree. Mourinho's treatment of Martial has been a joke. It seems he took a dislike to him as soon as he got to the club.

IMO Martial wasn't actually bad against Liverpool and was actually one of our better players while he was on the pitch. It seems Martial has to have a Messi like performance to keep Jose happy while others can play like crap and still have Jose's full backing.

This tough love act from Mourinho is getting boring real fast. It doesn't work on everyone and Ex players said as much in books about Fergie knowing who to hairdryer and who they never seen their hair being dried by Fergie before even after shoite games.

I am not sure Mourinho has realized the above yet seeing his history with some young talents (robben and de bruyne foremost). Maybe he is a one trick poney.

You're assuming Mourinho's gripe with Martial relates to his footballing ability. Your assumption may well be (probably is) false.

Nothing to see here but people who dont like Mourinho are having all sort of stories and scenarios. Its a golden mine for them.
Basing all on the pitch performances. Jose sees him every day at training too. But no, Mourinho is the villain who hates young players.

Not according to this.

It is easy to understand to be honest. Whose agent told the media they're considering a move to other club? (taking a dig at United in the process by stating that club is in CL)

BFS told to train with reserve. His brother & his circle in Germany made big noises. Mourinho said it's almost impossible for him to be played. He knuckled down. His circle silent. 4 months later he played.
Mhiki played badly and didn't start for a long time. He kept silent. Now he's one of the starter.

Mourinho said Martial didn't grab his chance with Liverpool performance, but Pogba was worse and still started at Stoke so we all know form in one off game isn't a consideration.

All these point to only thing...

Mata = 1694 mins.... 9 goals/assists
Martial = 1178 mins..... 10 goals/assists

You do the math

I'm sure Mata has more than 9.
When I say more chances, when we have a big game Martial will start and Mata will be on the bench. Martial seems to be the more favored of the players.

This. There is no need to mentally feck with players to get them to play well. In the long term it rarely works out

6 months ago our left side was tipped to be one of the best in Europe this season. Both Shaw and Martial tearing it down the left hand side. No one could stop them. Football is a fascinating game

He clearly went sour on him after he raised an issue about the shirt number thing.

On top of that, he hasn't been brilliant this season. But he's young so there shouldn't be too much pressure on him.

Mata doesnt start every game but doesnt cry to media or his agent either.
Why would he? He has more starts and minutes than any of our wide players when he's the least suited to a 4-3-3. I should imagine he's loving life.

Is that true since we switched to 4-3-3?

Ok here is how I feel about this.

We know he had a fantastic season last year and might have been one of the few sparks for us that season and was like Pogba and Zlatan this year untouchable.
But that said he has been in a constant fight with his NT manager and now Mou. There might be something there that we don´t know and I doubt Mou is doing this out of spite.

We here have been going on about players not giving their all last three seasons and that not good enough, overpaid these lines have been used to death.
Maybe we should give Mou the credit he deserves for getting us competing again and looking hungry. Players that are not willing to work hard are not what we want here even though they are talented.
He hasn´t really shown anything remotely close to his form last year, I don´t blame Mou for this if Martial wants to play he has to get with the plan and work his ass off as he hasn´t shown anything that stands out for his new manager. And that is coming from a guy that really likes Martial.

Is that true since we switched to 4-3-3?
It's true of the season in its entirety, don't know about since the formation change. But even when we were playing 4-2-3-1 at the start of the season Mata usually started on the right.

Mourinho said he hasn't lost focus and hinted at a lack of consistency in his game.
The rift between him and Mourinho is a media invention. He's just not played well enough to justify starting every week.
He doesn't need to be great every week to start for us. He just needs to be better than our alternatives and he clearly is. He's an imperfect young player and Mourinho obviously likes his solid professionals. It's hurting us though and the board shouldn't allow him to do anything daft.

Why would Martial? Based on his form this season.

Why would Martial? Based on his form this season.
He's actually had plenty of good games this season but often gets dropped on the back of them. It's not difficult to understand his frustration.

Fine, I agree with that. But on that basis isn't it up to Mou to find the right person to start on LW? Instead of granting chances to a player, be it Martial or whoever that is, chance after chance?
Of course it's up to Mourinho.

A lot of the frustration around Martial being in and out of the team stems from 2 things imo. 1. We all know just how talented and productive this kid is with trust, confidence and a run of games. 2. We're all afraid he'll end up leaving sooner rather than later because of it.

Now obviously it's up to his performances. If he plays well, he'll get games. But he isn't playing 'not' well. And certainly not in comparison to the players he's being dropped for.

We all hope him and Shaw will respond like Mikhi did and nail down a spot soon. But in reality that's not always going to happen.

Martial was on the left. Martial started the season, was his poor form (and an injury) that lost him his place

I know Martial was on the left. The point I was making was in relation to the guy who said Mata doesn't make a fuss, when he's had more minutes than any of our wide players this season.

Martial is one of the most tallented fwds in the side. I think mou wants and expexts more from him than he does the likes of lingard. just seems like tough love to spark a fire out of him to unlock a word class pottential from him and make him not be fine with just good enough.

Here's what he said on Martial. Basically, he didn't take his chance and there's a lot of competition for that position.

I'd rather Mourinho leave than Martial and I actually like Mourinho. That's how good I think Martial will be by his mid twenties if we keep him.

That's true mate. I don't think he has been subpar but certainly not good enough to be an automatic choice, which seems to be what a lot of his advocates are pushing for here. For me, I just don't agree with the allegation of a number of people here that Mou has taken the wrong approach with Martial. I don't think for a second that Marital's agent would indicate discontent if Martial himself did not sanction or knew of it. So Mou is taking a tough line with Martial and has openly said in terms of his progression, he should listen to Mou and not his agent. If it was SAF saying that to the likes of Scholes or Ronaldo, no one would say a word. So on this particular issue I'm completely in Mou's camp.

No player should be bigger than the manager. Think SAF said that? You may be right in terms of Martial's potential but if he turns out to be a spoiled tw8t and tries to challenge the manager and disrespect the club then in my opinion he can feck off.

Tony is still young and Mou is trying to man him up, which will a key factor in developing Martial from a good player into a world class forward. In Mou I trust.

I still think he's massively wasted down the left. Stick him upfront and let him roam around.

That's also interesting when asked if it's bad that Martial went to France. Mourinho said no, he likes it, because players have few off days. He encourage it, and said Romero will play on the weekend with Joel on the bench, so De Gea will be free too.
Non story then.

He also said Shaw is ready to play.

I agree, if Martial was just being outright childish and causing a fuss behind the scenes for no good reason the yes he should be sold. But at the moment from where i'm sitting it looks like a very good young player has been treated incredibly unfairly by the club and the manager. Having his number taken away from him and then dropped every other week for no good reason so I can see why he would be having a little sulk if he is.

Why on Earth would you presume that people around here are advocating for him to be an automatic starter?

We are questioning Mourinho's decision to drop him everytime he has a good game.
