Much more like the Martial of last season; threatening, sharp, direct and unlucky not to have scored. At least he should hopefully claim an assist.

Had next to no support all game, incredible how anyone could expect a good performance from him today. Still done fine given the circumstances.

Great game from him. Reminded me of his form last season.

Keep on this as he'll be really helpful in the final with such a performance.

Did very well also considering he is only 21. Will definitely get better. Both him and Rashford are very good talents to have.

He's so much better wide. When he doesn't need to play in the lap of the opposing CBs and when he has space in front of him. Very good game, MOTM.

Alongside Rooney our best attacking player. He did everything from tracking back to pressuring to trying to score. Lately he's making runs but not getting passes.

Finishing the season in a tiny bit of form, good news going into next season

:devil:That's the Martial we want to see, A for effort.

Not a perfect performance, but we won't mind since the big effort is clear for all to see.

And I could see he's mixing up his play today, although not much came off it, good effort.

Not just attack, he bother to- and defended well today :Dgj Martial~

The best one who showed care and urgency to win second half  can't complain.

Showed the right attitude, ran all game and got us back into it despite having no help most of the game.

he was crap
Indeed, he was for most of the game.

Shocking to see people posting that he played well when in reality it was a decent 15 minute spell when Spurs decided to protect their lead. His assist was pretty good though. Still nowhere near good enough on the basis of the full 90 minute performance. He also needs to work on his first touch. It's been horendous lately

Needs to add crossing in his repertoire. He would be very good that way. And under Jose, he needs to stop thinking of himself as a striker, and more as a left inside forward or left winger.

If he doesnt start vs Ajax something is really really very wrong. Offers us much more in attack than Lingard and his defensive work is woefully underrated

Anthony Martial thrives off being the main man, need to find a way for Martial and Rashford to work together, that should be the goal for next season. Far too talented to have one sit out
No way he's ever gonna be the main man in a team looking to compete for the title. We will potentially be getting better attacking players than him in the summer and we even have better than him now so it's impossible to make him the main man unless he improves dramatically.

It seems standards have dropped significantly for him. It doesn't take much for people to be praising him.

I thought Martial was decent against Tottenham, but the excuses for him are hilarious. Good strikers can occupy two defenders by themselves through their movement, they can hold up the ball to allow other players to come closer to them. Martial isn't 'isolated', the tactics are not hindering him. He is just not a very good no.9. Kane and Lukaku have been performing as no.9s for a few years at a high level and watching them over the last 2-3 years shows how short Martial comes up as a striker.

Martial is a good player when he has the freedom to interchange with other forwards and loiter in wide areas. When he is met with 2 defenders he wants to dribble past both of them and slot it into the corner, whereas a no.9 would want to use his physicality (strength and/or speed) to create space for a shot and hit as hard as possible towards the goal.

Rashford when he came on was using his speed to nullify that he was being double/triple marked, whereas Martial when being double/triple marked in some games earlier in the season was invisible. No.9s are expected to be isolated and score in situations where they shouldnt be scoring.

Martial can't consistently play up top unless he improves his ability to win aerial duels and hold the ball up while pinning his defender behind him, something Rashford also struggles with but I think has improved on this year. Until then he's much more suited to playing out wide.

It's no coincidence that all of his best moments came when he either drifted to the left and was able to run at the defenders. The only time he looks good playing through the middle is when we're counterattacking, something the side chosen never had the pace to accomplish.

He also showed again, once shifted out to the left with Rashford through the middle, that he is effective at tracking runners back. The idea he doesn't has always seemed baseless to me.

I don't mind Lingard starting as long as its with Martial and Rashford. Mkhi has no business starting a game in the kind of form he is in right now.

Jose needs to ingrain the idea of ball movement into him. There is not world class team that has a wide player whose primary instinct is to dribble the air out of the ball even though better options are available. He needs to pick his "iso" moments wisely when he has a clear 1v1 opportunity. When he passed the ball out quicker the team play got better.

I've been really pleased with his last couple of performances, still not as good as last season but he's getting there. I prefer him out on the wing than up front though but that's probably because the rest of the team aren't as quick as him when he does get going.

he need space to show his skills and ability to beat defenders. He is so effective in one-on-one situation
