This is pretty much a KO in this argument.Pogba was 18 at that time.
Back to Rebic,
Last 5 seasons, league goals
Rebic = 10
Smalling = 10
Once is attacker/winger and other is a CB

When you've only managed as many goals over 5 years as Chris Smalling, and it's only 10, it says a lot, if he was so brilliant last season then he should have easily doubled that number. There's all this talk about these genius managers as if lots of them don't make errors or don't have blindspots with certain players they know on a personal leve. With Rebic I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a lucrative mid table PL move as opposed to any of these big club moves. It's not because Rebic has been a late developer. If you want to know why his value has skyrocketed among European clubs and managers (although not among RedCafe posters) then you should examine his career/performances over the past year under Niko Kovac, the current Bayern Munich manager.
Football is about today and tomorrow whilst taking into account recent performances, not what happened five years ago.
From the posts I've read, what you're saying RW2, is that Rebic would be a good signing? A rough diamond, who could be polished into a very good player? I've never seen Rebic play before the WC but what I saw of him, I liked. I can understand he'd be the work horse that Jose would love.

Reckon he’s a Perisic level of talent. Not a special player by any means, but the right team could get lucky and get high value out of him.
There's no point - apparently there is a rise in value. He has had a decent season for Frankfurt to get them to a final but had an average world cup. However there isn't a massive rise in value - I don't see clubs fighting for him at all. Would not get in to PSG, Madrid, Barcelona,Athletic0, City, Liverpool (shaqiri is better), Chelsea, Juventus etc - every teams top 11 would not include Rebic & yet he would get in to ours.
He is a player who plays around SS & RW because the guy isnt able to hold one position - that was the case for Croatia too.
Got no problem with us signing him if Jose needs him but let's not raise unnecessary expectations not should we be selling players who have had good performances for us when Rebic's performances for his own clubs haven't been particular groundbreaking.
Wow......That's a lot of arrogance crammed into one post, congrats.Get back to me when you know what you're talking about.
You're quoting stats that are wrong and relating them to Chris Smalling over the past 5 years.
I'm dealing with juvenile arguments here from glory hunter bandwagoners who know nothing about football.
Rebic is, without a doubt, a 100% Mourinho player.
It doesn't surprise me in the least that Mourinho is interested. Not just because he's a workhorse but he puts opposition defences under considerable pressure, creates chances and changes the course of matches. He has phenomenally strength & power.
It's all very strange because, as I state, Rebic is a late developer in football.
In 2013 he won Croatian young footballer of the year, but then his career stalled. He didn't appear to make it at Fiorentina.
There is one man who Rebic idolises as a God, and that's Niko Kovac.
Kovac, now Bayern Munich manager, saw something in him but Kovac himself only started his club managerial career in March 2016, when he got the Frankfurt job.
Immediately he brought in Rebic whom he had known as Croatia manager.
In the first year Rebic's performances under Kovac at Eintracht were very mixed. . . . but in the past season Rebic has really found his feet and put in some impressive performances, leaving the most impressive for the German cup final in May where he was the most significant player in Eintracht defeating Bayern 3-1, scoring 2 goals and winning MOTM (despite being out injured for the previous 5 weeks before that final).
All I'm doing is trying to educate ignorant RedCafe posters.
It ain't easy. . .
So the guy who talked absolute nonsense about Martial and Pogba is bigging up Rebic, who scored a grand total of 10 league goals in last 5 years, same number of goals as Smalling.
Somehow this guy achieved more and better than Martial who scored more league goals in 1 season than entire Rebic's career.
Luka Modric has scored 9 goals for Real Madrid (who score 100+ goals a season) since 2012.
I suppose you consider Martial, Pogba & Smalling better players than him?
Modric is a central midfielder, not an attacker.Luka Modric has scored 9 goals for Real Madrid (who score 100+ goals a season) since 2012.

ASAPDidnt you learn anything from Perisic thread, what the hell are you going, leave this thread
Modric is a central midfielder, not an attacker.
Hey, thanks for the info. I didn't know any of that. People forget some of the best take a while to show up. How old is Rebic, 24? I'm sure I read somewhere, the likes of Modric and Zidane were at their clubs in Croatia and France respectively. Zidane was at Bordeaux and can't remember where Modric was before Spurs.
Also, guaranteed most would not have watched Rebic before. Most on the Cafe moan how we don't unearth 'gems' and when we try to, the Cafe moan about that the player isn't good enough for us. It must be easier to be negative all the time I guess?!
Rebic is not an attacker and was not played by Eintracht Frankfurt/Croatia as an attacker.
He's a winger.
You're literally commenting on a player you know sweet FA about.
I know you fancy yourself a footballing genius, but just to let you know, a winger is an attacker, you expect goals from them.Rebic is not an attacker and was not played by Eintracht Frankfurt/Croatia as an attacker.

This is fairly hilarious given how you pretty much come off like Rebic's "mammy" in this thread.I've stated what I've stayed whilst having to listen to nonsense arguments which imply that Chris Smalling is a better player than Luka Modric or that Martial is go good a player that France left him at home for the WC.
In the end Rebic will probably end up at Bayern and when Bayern play United in a Champions League....then why not let Rebic have the final say.
As regards some RedCafe posters..... turn off your Man United TV, take down your posters of Martial from your Mammys bedroom wall and get out and watch football elsewhere

Yeah, he talks a lot about people needing to watch other teams, but it seems like he should practice what he preaches.Well you are in for a shock if you think he can realize that.
Guy has no clue about Martial but somehow talks with so much authority.

Martial would be a good Bournemouth player
Who will win Ballon D'or this year?
Messi, Ronaldo, Chris Smalling or Luka Modric?
I watched him in his early years at Hajduk but he dissapeared a few years after and last season I saw a few games with him in Frankfurt. He's an OK player, works hard and will probably fit in Mourinhos defensive set-up, but he's not a gem as you put it. He will do well enough where ever he goes but he won't become a game changing player, I've heard from people who watch him on a regular basis that he's very incosistent but that's just hear say.
All that said, I wouldn't mind him here at the club at all. If Mourinho thinks he's the player we need I'm all for it but being compared to Perisic and the like is simply ott.
Seems he doesn't even get assists either. Seems like a James McLean type player.
He has more yellow cards than Goals + assists for Frankfurt, commits more fouls than chances created.
The guy is one of the most rubbish players for Croatia - even Croatia would use Martial over Rebic
Is that really true!? 10 goals in 5 years? What a joke. There are defenders that have more goals than that. Working hard and tracking back can only get you so far. An attacker needs to be double figures in goals/assists or both to play for United. Anything less is falling well below that standard.Rebic, for life time achievement of 10 league goals in 5 years

I think “game changing” wingers are few and far between.
Close to joining Sevilla apparently. 20m euros.
Think that's the right sort of move for his ability.
