Angelo Henriquez

I take it that Geography was never your strongest subject, Southern hemispheres and seasons and all.

The AFCON takes place during what is generally agreed as the African summer or dry season to be more accurate. A calendar harmonization of international football needs to be done.

Is there any need for a tournament to be played in the summer, especially in Africa?

Surely the colder winter months (the Northern hemisphere summer) makes for a better tournament.

Actually, Eto'odinho (and by extension, yourself) is not entirely correct. Anywhere above the equator, and certainly in the major footballing nations where the AFCON is most often held (excluding South Africa and Kenya, etc), has the same seasons as we do in the Northern Hemisphere.

So, the AFCON is in fact held in the winter months for the most part, for obvious reasons.

Manchester United

Thats the agency i think we have a close relationship with.

From that article:

Paul Kelso of the Daily Telegraph writes: "Last November United struck a deal with Desportivo Brasil, a youth club owned by Traffic Football Management, that gives Ferguson first option on more than 120 teenagers being groomed for European football in a Sao Paulo academy in run by World Cup winner Carlos Alberto Parreira. Traffic also wholly or part-owns the economic rights to another 90 or so professionals via two multi-million dollar investment funds founded expressly to profit from the transfer of promising Brazilian players."

Manchester United are expected to see the fruits of this relationship in the coming months as they are close to agreeing a deal for Brazilian defender Dodo, who plays for Corinthians and is part-owned by Traffic.

Traffic have defended their relationship with the Champions League finalists. Jochen Losch, Traffic’s head of international business, said: "United are already in Brazil scouting teenagers but it is very expensive way to do it. Now we look for players together and they have first option to take them at 17. Traffic maintain an interest in the player’s economic rights, and we agree with United to take a percentage of any future transfer fee. The deal is within Fifa’s rules. It would be circumventing the rules if the club was a sham and did not exist but it is 100 per cent legal."

A United spokesman added: "Our link is with the club so any deal to bring players in would be within Fifa and Premier League rules."

Traffic have set up at least two investment funds worth 55 million dollars to own a part of 90 players. Last summer eight Traffic players moved to Europe, generating 30 million dollars.

Am I the only one not too comfortable about United having ties like this? We don't know who on earth is funding 'Traffic'.

Angelo Henríquez: 'No me han dicho nada, no creo que sea verdad' | Deportes | LA TERCERA

The forward of the Chilean under-17, Angelo Henriquez, distanced himself from the possible sale to Manchester United for about $ 5 million.

The striker was clear and said, told Radio Cooperativa, "I do not say anything, I'm still a player in the U, and I think that is true. "

"It would be very rare, because they (directors of Manchester) said they would take me when I was older and had more experience, " said the player.

Henríquez has twice been trained in England, until 2014 there was an agreement to be acquired, but ruled that it is now.

"They said they preferred to play professional football here, "reiterated the juvenile before the sale.

Finally he said to get to Manchester "would be a dream" and for that, "I have to keep working hard in the U and continue growing. "

For his part, Federico Valdés, told Radio Bío-Bío that "it is untrue that there is a concrete offer, but said they are " very aware of what you do and are doing specific monitoring. "

And then rejected those reports days later.

Apparently a deal is done.

That's the worst distancing of oneself I've ever seen.

Apparently we now officially have first option on this guy.

United agree first option on Chilean striker Henriquez as youngster trains in Manchester

Manchester United have agreed a first option on Chilean striker Angelo Henriquez, 16.

The Universidad de Chile striker has impressed in the South American Under 17 Championship in Ecuador, and has trained in Manchester.

'Of course it is amazing that a team like Manchester United have taken an interest in me. They are a huge team at a world level and playing for them would be a dream come true,' Henriquez admitted to Triunfo.

'I know that if I want to be a footballer, I have to be very professional and not get caught up in the parties or the gossip columns, besides I don't like that sort of thing.

'For now I am only thinking about my club, making my debut and performing; because Manchester United have told me that I have to start getting experience to make the move to England.'

He's saying the right things.

Chilean young gun Angelo Henriquez has confirmed Manchester United’s interest in him.

The teenage striker, currently with homeland club Universidad de Chile, could be on his way to England to join the Red Devils ion the near future.

The 17-year old has twice trained with United and it is believed that they are continuing to monitor his progress although Henriquez says there is a chance he could be there sooner rather than later.

"I am still a player of Universidad,” he told Radio Cooperativa.

"They have told me that they would take me when I am older and have more experience.

"It would be a dream come true [to move to United] but I have to keep working hard."

I have no news but I do have this short post I wrote about him during the Sudamericano:

I don't know whether anyone actually cares, based on the thread so far most people seem to prefer moaning about money and United's transfer activity the last few years, but I watched two of Chile's matches and wrote down some thoughts.

This is what Tor-Kristian Karlsen had to say on Twitter:

one of the most impressive cfwds of the tournament (u17 south american championship). plays in the middle up front in a 4-3-3 system

possesses great variety of skills, physically/technically. extremely hard working (!), outstanding runner (bursts/20-30 meters), fine touch

right footed but uses left to fine level (shots, passes), smart movement, ok body strength, brain/skill to play effective combinations

maybe lacks a few cms (hard to tell his exact size, i'd guess 178-180 cm), and would probably eventually be used as a second striker

the talk here in ecuador is that manchester united signed an option to buy henriquez already a year ago

don't know regarding eu passport, but unlikely to make much difference. as a top chilean talent, he'll get a work permit (at 18) anyhow

Like I said I only watched two of his four matches (well actually I did watch the Brazil match too but all my attention was on the young Brazilians Lucas Piazon, Andrigo and Adryan so I didn't notice anything about Henriquez other than that he scored a decent goal which was linked in the mains thread) but I didn't notice the great variety of skills, technical skills, touch and left foot ability that TKK mentions. Henriquez played an advanced role on the shoulder of the last defender and rarely dropped deep to link up play but when he did I would say he was assured in his passing but nothing spectacular. He rarely ran with the ball and the one or two times he did it was more of a strong, bullish type run instead of a dribble. Speaking of his running, TKK calls him an outstanding runner and I'm not sure what exactly he means by that but from what I have seen he isn't particularly fast nor explosive over a short distance. The only time I remember him using his left foot was when he took a shot from the edge of the penalty area and missed the target by some distance.

Where I do agree is the hard working and smart movement parts. His off the ball play in the attacking phase I thought was very good and he made intelligent runs both into the spaces between opposition defenders and in behind them. In the defensive phase he worked very hard and closed down opponents even though often his team mates had already fallen back into defensive positions and it was him on his own against two or three opposition players. Which brings me to another point, he did lack for service and support a lot in the matches I watched. Chile struggled to get players forward to help out and maybe it's not surprising that they are currently fourth in their group despite playing a match more than everyone else.

The second striker comment is interesting. In addition to the fact that it seems to me like second strikers are becoming less and less common from what I have seen his attributes suggest to me more a typical number 9 role. But who knows, I don't claim to be an expert on judging future potential and given TKK's resume I'll defer to his judgment. If the reports are true and we are willing to pay £3m for this kid then I trust that our scouts have done their homework and watched more than the two matches of his that I have seen.

10:43 United are interested in signing a Chilean, according to reports. "I know," you say, quite possibly belming. "You've been banging on about Sanchez for weeks. It's all I've read about. Change the record." Well, I counter, don't be so presumptuous. It's a different player. According to 6cero.com, the Reds have long since been trailing Angelo Henriquez from Universidad de Chile, and can exercise an option to sign the 18-year-old striker - dubbed a blend of Sanchez and Ivan Zamorano - anytime between now and 2014, for a fee of around £3.5million. Zap.
This lad's cropped up again in the Utd website gossip.

Henriquez made his debut for universidad in June and was recently called up to a training camp for the senior chile squad so he's obviously highly rated in chile

Henriquez has scored 3 goals in his first 4 games for Universidad de Chile
Goals at 0:20 and 3:50

Goal at 5:09

looks like a young RVN!

so whats the deal with this kid, we own him but hes there on loan or what?
