I think the club are just being cautious with him, he IS small, but perhaps Ole's mentality is still stuck in the 90's where Gomes probably would have been murdered by the likes of Neil Ruddock or Vinnie Jones.
Nowadays it's much less physical and IMO he can hold his own. I guess perhaps he just doesn't fit the type of player he likes? Playmakers weren't exactly big 20 years ago. You were either a striker, a winger or a midfielder.
Thats my worry too. He's into the last year of contract and i can see him flourishing under Pep or at Barca. Would kill my fragile heart to see him wear other colors without being given proper chance.
I hope Gomes realises his situation and remains patient, but it must be tough seeing kids like Greenwood jump into the first team at 17.
I hate to say it but he would probably be best at somewhere like Barca, he would suit their football to the ground.
Gomes is Mancunian though, he has a strong Manc accent and I hope he feels rooted here. Fingers crossed he gets a fair chance and will replace Mata in the future. Look at how patient Lingard had to be also, he was arguably even less physical.

Gomes is literally proving his size doesn't mean much and I still suspect people don't buy into his effectiveness. No idea what Chong has done to deserve more minutes than Gomes for instance.
There's no need to shit on Chong, he's played very well on the left in preseason. The problem Gomes has is getting minutes ahead of Mata, Lingard and Pereira, which is unfortunate because he will likely go on to be better than all of them, he just needs an opportunity.
Ole doesnt rate him, quite simple. Chong and Greenwood are more his type of players.
The lad will move on in the summer, clubs like Dortmund, PSG and Barca will be lining up IMO. He wont be short of suitors, in the league and abroad. He will be successful, i wouldnt hesitate to make a huge bet on it. Sancho 2.0, only this time us and not City with the mistake

Many of the minutes given to Mata and especially golden boy Lingard could've been given to Chong and Gomes more.There are plenty of minutes next season for youngsters if we have a little amount of brain. If we drag team for PL games across fecking Europe in EL, then what can you say, specially if we trying to be full pressing team in PL. Our pricks will be dead by January if they play in EL.

Honestly, I don't think he will start. This is our last friendly so it'll be the full team (James/Lingard/Rashford/Martial) that start, and probably play until 75/90.
I just hope they give him a bit of time to keep him interested.
If Ole persist with giving undeserving player like Lingard the minutes Gomes should be getting, the kid will leave unfortunately. And I can see that scenario happening.
How is it shitting on Chong when it's a simple fact that Gomes has done better for the youth teams? Gomes deserves more of a chance.

Could it be another Pogba situation? Perhaps OGS not willing to give him more minutes until he commits to the club. A bit of a catch-22 as Gomes probably won't commit and sign a new contract until he plays more. In any event, it feels as if though I've seen this movie play out before unfortunately.

It seems Gomes could leave for free next summer. Mainly if we get someone in his position like Dybala/Fernandes instead of giving him an opportunity first.
