Gomes only has a couple hours of experience in the PL. I'd like to see more of him in preseason but its a bit much to expect him to dislodge Lingard over a few decent preseason performances.
We could try to give him 20 minutes for a few games and see how he does. That's the best way to judge him, not once every few months in some meaningless game.

This whole thing giving me Pogba vibe, some pricks will turn his head and get him on free. This preseason some showed way less than him but got more minutes, seems we are doing certain shit on a loop.
This is my concern, hoping he was just being rested as he will start against Milan on Sat.

Can't see the lad having much of a career here if we do sign Fernandes and Dybala

Damn shame as every time I've seen the lad play he looked like he has 'it'

Every young player at United will have to compete with those sort of players to establish himself. It’s why homegrown players becoming established first-teamers at big clubs is such a rarity. It’s a huge challenge.

Think a lot of the despair in this thread is unfounded. There’s a very good chance he gets plenty of minutes against Milan. Ole literally said after Spurs he has very high hopes for him.

His contract though is a worry.

Lingard has dislodged himself out of the first team if performances are to be counted. He's been absolute shit for 7 months running, saying it's a bit much if we had some quality player there I can understand the point. We have Lingard and even Mata. It's stupidity to waste such a talented kid in order to give minutes to 2 players that shouldn't be part of the present nor future of the club.

The problem is that those players are so much further ahead of Gomes and Greenwood due to their experience that it would be almost impossible for Gomes and Greenwood to get game time, even if they're training amazingly well - potentially leading to other clubs sniffing around them a la Juve and Pogba.

It's a delicate balancing act, trying to fit the youth players around a successful team - let's hope Ole can manage it.

And it's for that reason I was quite happy with the prospect of getting Maguire in and no one else. Would much rather see Greenwood and Gomes get games next season than Dybala personally (based on my pessimism that Dybala will be Di Maria mrk II)

I fear he is going to leave at the end of the season.

The issue are not Dybala and Bruno, bit Lingard and Mata. He is better than them

My main worry is Mata and Lingard underperforming but getting into the team ahead of better players who are simply inexperienced - they'll only get that experience by playing, and they're phenomenal talents that shouldn't be wasted

Exactly. Mata and Lingard need to be moved on so that Gomes has even a small chance of making it here.

It really fecking isn't. A manager once got rid of the likes of Mark Hughes and Paul Ince in order to prioritize a super talented bunch of kids. Mata and Lingard are laughable compared.

Of course it is. Unless you think Ferguson didn’t weigh up all the pros and cons and just did that on a whim. You should apply for the job
If Ole can't see all the pros and cons in this situation, then we are fecked. It's pretty straight forward.

I should I know, but Ed is a moron, he would probably go for Paul Ince when he sacks Ole eventually.

Should get him to sign a deal and go out on loan (if we get dybala/Fernandes). Won't displace Lingard (needs that final nail on Lingard fanzone coffin) /Mata (just signed a contract) this season. If he has a good season on loan in a lower tier club then he has better odds of displacing them next season.

Gomes, Chong and Gardner should all go out on loan. They won’t get enough game time here as we have too many player on these positions.

All of them might do well for a Eredivisie team, I think.

He needs going on loan to a championship side but he will have to sign a new contract first

He will become our own David Silva! Please sort his contract out.

Some of his competition for gametime here are Mata, Lingard, Sanchez and James. He is as talented as any of these guys. He doesn’t seem to have a problem stepping up and playing senior football. He has grit and tenacity to go with his skills on the ball as well.
Should be noted he turns 19 next month.
I struggle to come up with a good reason not to play him here instead.

Talents like these don't go out on loan anymore. I am sure there are decent sides offering him first team football at the moment.

I genuinely can’t think of a player who has gone abroad for a loan spell and come back ready for the first team. Can you? There are plenty of Chelsea players, but maybe only Andreas Christiansen fits that bill?

We either give Gomes a chance or he leaves on a free transfer. Agree on the other two though.

I can't think of a single benefit of sending Garner on loan, he's not even played a full season of U23 football yet.

And if he refuses, we should put him on Gardening leave.

Pereira. He's still not very good mind, but that's ability not lack of experience IMO.

I just can't see how he gets game time.

If there was one manager in the world that gets United and understands the historic importance of our youth team, and has in fact coached our youth team, it is Ole.

That is my big fear as Barca have supposedly been circling for a while. Would hate to see him fulfil his potential somewhere else.

Yep. Either he gets respectable game time this season, or he walks on a free. The cards are in his hands at the minute. No reason to extend.

I remember vague links of Barcelona and PSG sniffing around; I seriously think that's the calibre of clubs who'll want in.

He'd be stupid to go there though, I doubt he'd get any more game time than he'd get here.

The thing is I still him having more of a chance of getting game time here than elsewhere with him being academy product and our general tendency to give them chances. Surely he sees that despite he himself not getting much chances.

If he doesn't get a decent chance this season he's off, the players he considers his peers, Sancho and Foden for example, will get fairly regular first team football in top 5 European leagues, Sancho is already a full international and Foden will be soon enough. Compared to these two he'll feel like he's not getting a chance and needs to move.

This is something I really fear happening and think it's a massive mistake on the club's part to leave him enter the last year of his contract

I've never wanted a Youth Player to make the break through more than this kid
