Nev: Blind is a LCB or a Left wingback or a Left back.
Carragher: Rojo is a LB who can also play CB

I haven't seen much of either of those players, but aren't both the experts wrong?
:lol: Jamie Carragher saying Rojo. Ro-Jo. Apart from that I agree with pretty much everything they said.

I'm really excited about this signing. He is exactly the sort of quality we need and hopefully his arrival will go in and boost the rest of the squad as well. We are overpaying for him, but that seems to be the case these days with almost every player so I think it's fine. I wonder how LvG will end up using him? as a CM or out wide?

That stat comparison is useless without accounting for averages per game.

still struggling to get excited by this, it just feels to much like spending loads of money for a turbo on your car when you dont have any wheels

What if the turbo is so good it can push the car forward without wheels?

Rojo is CB through and through. He played LWB at World Cup because Argentina didn't have any good proper left or wing backs.

He played 28 games for Sporting CP last season. 27 of them as CB and one as LB.

That game was one of the only five games where their LB Jefferson was unavailable. In 3 matches RB Piris was preferred to play LB and in one game against weak side in Cup (8:0) some young guy played there.

If we buy Blind, then, I believe, he'll be third to play at LWB after Shaw and Blind. Thought Blind is more of CDM.

maybe "should" but "wont" be, rooneys captain and RVP is van gaals golden boy
Since when can the captain not be dropped?Further, van Gaal has a history of dropping players for the good of the team, he will do it again if he has to, no matter who the player is.

Watch the MNF clip someone posted a few pages back, Neville talks about how Angel will fit in with Mata etc. He makes some good points.
yeah seen it, but even neville had mata on the bench to start with, simple problem is he isnt going to get in the team above the captain and van gaals golden boy rvp

I think when Van Gaal loses his patience with some of our "undroppable players" anything can and will happen, mark my words. Very soon names, past relationships and statuses won't matter.
w'll see but i personly think mata is going to be get use to a nice place on the bench when di maria, rooney and rvp are fit

Some people seem to think we now have one good player and the rest is crap.

De Gea, Mata, Rojo, Herrera, RvP, Rooney, Januzaj, Carrick....it's not like Di Maria will be our only decent player

i just dont see van gaal making rooney cpatain then droping him a couple of weeks later.... and yeah he probably will do it again if he has to, but that wll be a while down the line right now i think mata will be benched

Ronaldo is a freak of nature. Incredible.

Di Maria stood out in that Real Madrid team and he'll stand out in ours I'm sure but I don't think he'll be getting those stats for us. He's playing with a total different team with different skill sets.

I'm very excited by this transfer, but I can't help but feel we're just getting top-heavier.

If we manage to bag Vidal this week or even a combination of De Jong+Blind then I'll start to get giddy and super optimistic.

He could get even better stats for us. He was a cog in the machine at Madrid. He'll probably be our main player. LvG will build the team around him, I reckon.

I never thought about it before but as someone posted earlier, 4-3-1-2 looks like it could work

DDG
Raf Jones Evans Shaw
Herrera Carrick Di Maria
Mata
RVP Rooney

I think it would work. Especially when you see how some of Di Maria's best performances have been on the left of a 3 man middle.

EDIT: Further evidence that this could be in the pipeline was seeing Januzaj given game time against Sunderland in the centre of the park.... Another string to his bow!

Rooney wasn't the first nor the only person on my mind when I made that post, I'm thinking both he, Van Persie and Mata could/should be at risk if they persist with the flat, uninterested and uninspired performances.

Hang on we havent seem Rojo yet! And Carrick was very average last year but the rest are good yes and I would also add Welbeck and Kagawa to that list.

That might count against him. Against Madrid opponents would have been focusing more on Ronaldo and Bale, which would give Di Maria a little more freedom. Against United, opponents will be keeping more of an eye on him. That would be fine, because we still have plenty of players that can hurt teams, but it might impact Di Maria's personal stats.

On 13th of August this legendary conversation was struck:

I can't see this happening.

Most of us agree di Maria wouldn't really fit into our current 3-5-2. I'm confident LVG hasn't been playing 3-5-2 all preseason, only to sign di Maria and immediately switch to 4-3-3 for the start of the season. I'm not buying this 'just as sign him and worry about where to play him later' argument either.

From 4:44 on: he basically says he is forced by this selection to play 3-5-2 and he literally says he is more in favour of 1-4-3-3.

2:24 - 2:34: says he needs to buy specialists on the wing and more attackers to play 4-3-3.

If you put these puzzle pieces together, a nice di Maria face appears.

The legend pieced the logical puzzle together yet again. Happy with this purchase @Sied ?
