What is this news i am reading about City trying to do a "Berbatov" on DeMaria

Yeah that was a Duncan Castles special from this morning...

He basically said that City have told Di Maria to delay his decision whilst they sell Negrado and Nastasic to raise £40m to place a bid for him... Utter rubbish, seeing as a few journos have said that City told them they rejected Di Maria earlier in the window

I agree BUT we are not in a situation where we can spend all the money we generate so i think thats why some people are worried about the DiMaria price, because we might not have the money left to spend on the area that we desperately need to, defence and especially centre midfield.

Personally i think the DiMaria price is a fair amount for this day and age.

Where is the indication we won't have any more money to spend?

I think there are more players to come in this window hence trying to tie this deal up very early (week left before deadline)

We need to spend big to get back into the CL and the revenue that comes with it.

I am sure you will agree we need a winger so who else do you bring in who is on a par with Di Maria and costs us less?

I know what you're saying but neither of those players were ever going to join a team not playing in Europe, however briefly we hope that situation to be for.

Re the money, I honestly don't think we'll be prevented from spending more, we're a financial behemoth.

Plus LVG just dropped Vidals name
Perhaps. But the noises at the time were that we'd basically done a deal for Kroos when Moyes was here. Anyway, I'd have said the same about ADM.

Hopefully you're right. We are, but everyone has a limit. Right now we're moving towards a spend of, what, £150m odd with a player or two still to come. If we bought the likes of Vidal I'd imagine the fee would be something like £50m so if we bought him and Blind we'd end up probably around £220m (and could probably still do with a centre half).

What I took from that interview was that Messi is ON. I sort of blacked out from that point.

Yes, go bury your head in the sand. You're probably one of the same people that complain that we've misspent in the last 12 months but are happy to spunk £65m on Di Maria. I'd pay a max of £50m on him and even then I'd be reluctant about the fee. That money could be better spent elsewhere.

Where else do you spend the money then? Go on....

We need a winger and Di Maria is one of the best, Madrid don't even want to let him go FFS.

We have got one of the very best

Oh how I love this kind of assumptions based on nothing.

And yeah 'bury your head in the sand' posts. I love them too..

As if those 14 mil. will make a difference on our spending. But as I said - whatever....
Point out where I've "moaned for whatever reason possible". It's a valid reason why I'm concerned about the fee. It also sets a precedent.

@Brophs has pretty much nailed what I've been thinking and if you look at my earlier posts in this thread, I've said that in more or less the same words. If you don't see which point I'm trying to make and just reply with whatever, then you're just burying your head in the sand. Simple.

I hope Woodward has him signing a contract in a room without a TV. Not sure what he would be thinking watching that match.

Central midfield and defence. Di Maria's signing makes our total spending for this summer reach £135m and yet we've still got a shite midfield and a shite defence. Do you think we'll spend a lot more? I have no doubt we'll bring in quantity but do you really think we'll bring in quality to fill those holes with the money left. I severely doubt it.

I have no problem signing Di Maria. Great player and one we need. But he does not solve out problems single handedly.

No, Real actually want to sell him. Don't get that mistaken. The fans, Ancelotti, the players, they don't but the most important man at Real does. That's Perez. If Ozil was sold for £45m, then I'm afraid Di Maria should be sold for something similar. Both players were/are in the situation. Paying £20m above what Arse paid for Ozil is a joke, quite frankly.

Someone won't be happy with Xabi Alonso, announcing the deal before both clubs. van Gaal name dropped Vidal after the game.

I dont get people moaning about a fee of 64 mil. for a player like Di Maria. It doesnt happen often that kind of player is available. and that difference of 15 mil. is nothing and it wont mean we wont sign anymore players. Weather it will be in this window we'll see. We need a player like Di Maria and we shouldnt nag about 10, 15 mil here and there..

As I said I just dont get people moaning about us overpricing, its not that we bought him for 100 million, and in today's market, crazy as it is 64 mil. is not a bad price for Di Maria.

Marcelo also said bye too didn't he earlier today?
Yeah but didn't mention United.

It was known this morning he was leaving after Ancelottis quotes but to were hadn't been confirmed. That Alonso tweet is as good as confirmation for me unless the scouse in him is WUMing us.

The feck?! 15m isn't chump change, even for United. That's the whole point I'm trying to make. Ozil went for £45m, overpriced a bit but still in the ballpark of what he's worth. It should be the same for Di Maria. Why not just pay £70m and be done with it? After all, £20m isn't that far off £15m.
