Just want to know one thing about your opinion on this:

Di Maria will turn 27 years old in February, do you care about spending £56m on a player with no sell on value? He will give us 5 years max though, which is enough until new talents come in, right?

I am torn on this. Do you care about the money? Normally if you are going to spend huge money on players, they are on young players. This is an exception.

:nervous:

Someone cheer me up...
This is a fact: the days of getting a hazard, moura, ribery, robben esc attacking talent for 30m or under are completely over, BOOM completely over.

the influx of money at the top of end transfers basically means, unless there is a release clause involved the best or most marketable players in the world will be 40m + and will continue to get more expensive year after year. David fecking luiz has just been sold for 40-50m pounds dependant on who you ask to illustrate this point. Furthermore, Di maria, taking age and everything into account is easily a 35-40m pound player nobody on the planet would dispute that, you could ask any rival fan and they would probably say around the 40m mark. now, for a club of our stature, being outside the champions league, and desperately needing a pickmeup he could quite easily be the difference between 3rd and 5th. is that not worth an extra 10m on the transfer fee? were at a crucial stage in our history and unfortunatly ANY player we are linked with immidiatly has 5-10m added ontop and theres nothing we can do about that. Rojo for 16m is bassically the same Vidic or evra gamble we chucked 6m at all those years ago.

This deal is real excitement.Woke up by early Sunday morning and read through all 30+ pages.
Di maria is sensible player, technically good, good on ball, great left foot.he gives us good pace upfront.
Money we are about to pay seems to be worth. He's quality player for the price especially with this inflated market.
Yes we need a player in CM area and i hope Di maria will not be the last player to join United before the end of this transfer window.

They too believe that Di Maria is coming to United. This one is for real. We've bagged him.

I think we have agreed personal terms but haven't agreed terms with Real. Some are claiming its close and is about to happen but others are claiming we are going to meet on Monday before deciding a price. You never know how that supposed negotiation might turn out to be though, Real might think we are desperate to sign a player like Di Maria given our circumstances and demand an extortionate sum while United might think they are desperate to offload Di Maria and might drive a hard bargain. I am just confused on that United-Real front on Di Maria's transfer negotiation, that's all.

Agreed. No matter how unfortunate his time here was due to injury, he did reward us with that classic goal against City. And there is no doubting he was in the class of players worthy enough to wear the 7 shirt for United.
I wasn't being completely serious, but I'd agree the name 'Michael Owen' was worthy of the #7 shirt. Wouldn't say his ability at the time of joining us was though

What's the confusion? We'll negotiate a deal. Real need the money and we have it. We'll meet somewhere down the middle. It'll be somewhere between £45-55m in the end. Madrid have spent far too much and made far to little in sales so far. This is all but done. Just a signing of a few papers that's all. The final amount has also been discussed a little and that's why so many people have said that it'll be around the numbers mentioned before by countless sources.

I think Mendes has discussed a price with Real already unofficially and with United. We are prepared to meet it, though a official meeting will be held to decide on payment strucutre/add ons/agent fees etc..finally. It could still fall through but odd of us to be leaking then all over that we are confident and Real's side seems to be briefing the same as well.

Mendes has good relations with both United and Real with several clients having been at either club so he's the go to man in between probably. He was doing the Atletico - Chlesea deals like this as well reportedly.

Di Maria for 50m is pretty fair to me, taking into account the present state of the world and past precedents. Figo, Zidane, Crespo, Vieri, Buffon, Ferdinand etc., were going for huge fees 10-15 years ago. Di Maria is in that strata of talent - maybe not Zidane level - and is fully worth every penny of that 50m. He's the sort of player who's going to take us to that next level. We might need midfielders and defenders to redress the balance of the team, but we are in dire need of an exceptional attacking midfield, too.

Look around Europe and look at the attacking players some of those teams have got behind their strikers. We've got two top strikers, one brilliant playmaker, a potentially very good youngster, but outside of those we have a shocking dearth of attacking talent. Solidity can be learned and drilled into the players, but attacking requires genuine talent.

When was the last time we were this close (reportedly) to signing someone and didn't end up signing them. Benzema? Ronaldinho?

I don't think even Hazard was this advanced. Our interest was confirmed but City and Chelsea were with us all the way.

Don't have anything to add but just to get your juices flowing I'll say that as a Liverpool fan, I'm very, very, very, very jealous that you've pulled this off.

Exquisite signing.

It was Ronaldinho, we had a fee agreed verbally and then Kenyon low-balled PSG, he did the same with the Robben deal. the cnut.

I thought you were a City fan....

You're a scouser, Bob?

You've made a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiig mistake...

Ha yeah, apparently I keep my real team well hidden, so far I've had City fan, Atlético Madrid fan, Barcelona fan and (correctly) Liverpool fan!

AD jokes are always appreciated but I was hoping you didn't sign Di María, it's put me in a bad mood :(

Signings like these also help with further signings. Look at Ozil and the following signing of Sanchez. Top players want to play with other top players, not Valencia, Young and Cleverley. If we do sign him then it should help us in the future.

Would be a big boost if we do get him. Not just with the fans, but also to help show other potential signings that we are still going to be competing with the other big teams

Seems this has progressed rapidly. I'm actually unsure I want him - which I know goes against 99.9% of people on here I assume.

Why? Surely it's clear that we'll be better off if we get him as opposed to not?

Yeah he will improve us. But we're just so stacked in that final third of the pitch already, it seems like the Mata signing all over again - unnecessary. It'll more than likely push Welbeck out as well (who is one of my favourite players). It will probably reduce the minutes Januzaj will play and it still leaves our CM and defence as weak.
