Angel Di Maria | £59.7M fee agreed I Maybe tomorrow...or the day after...

It is £210m (if Di Maria costs £60m) on additions to the title winning squad. You've left out Zaha, omitted the £5m for Nani's wages that you'll still be paying despite losing him as a squad option (making Rojo's fee effectively £21m) and left out bits and pieces concerning Varela and others.

Why are you adding wages to transfer fees to make it look bigger? The player is on loan, not sold yet.

If everyone is fit? We only have Carrick and Fellaini injured. Thats it. We just have to hope Carrick comes back like was playing two years ago but thats a long shot since he is getting older.
He could be very good in a holding role, his defensive stats are also still very good, Herrear could play as an 8 then. But having Herrera next to Carrick, and behind them Clev/Fletch/Fellaini isnt such a problem to moan about signing di Maria.

Im sorry are you talking about how we spend money after what your team did last year? Spent £100m on a bunch of average players except Eriksen and you barely finished above us.

We made a net profit in transfer deals last summer ... so not remotely comparable to United's huge net spend. But nice try at changing the subject away from Di Maria.

Hell yeah we should. RVP hasnt got much in the tank if he continues to keep getting injured. Rooney up top with Reus, Mata/Januzaj and Di Maria behind him would be absolutely lovely to see. He will be my muppet target next summer.

His move to whatever club will be sorted early probably. Seems likely to be Bayern right now.

Di Maria is only 26, it's crazy to come close to thinking that he's too old to join us. He will probably be playing at a very high level for another 5-6 years.

Just want to know one thing about your opinion on this:

Di Maria will turn 27 years old in February, do you care about spending £56m on a player with no sell on value? He will give us 5 years max though, which is enough until new talents come in, right?

I am torn on this. Do you care about the money? Normally if you are going to spend huge money on players, they are on young players. This is an exception.

:nervous:

Someone cheer me up...
United will be getting 75m a year from the Adidas kit deal, blowing everyone elses out of the water (and also we have a great sponsorship deal with Chevy). We are incredibly rich and have only started spending a lot the last 2 years really. Before then we hardly did anything. We're able to spend that much on a player like Di Maria, and he is one of the very best players in the world so it doesn't matter about his re sale value, because he won't go anywhere from here until he's about to retire probably. Look at Barca. Do you think they're worried about spending 80m on Suarez? No. It's about time we started showing some muscle in the transfer market anyways, especially for a player who will go a long way to solving out problems both with pressing the opposition and attacking, and generally being an entertaining team again. He'll bring back the fear factor in our team.

I thought getting Di Maria will cure my muppetitis, but it made it worse. I need Reus in that (Di Maria/Januza/Wilson/Reus) line up. Yes, I changed Rooney with Wilson, watchya gona doo?!

We're the biggest club in Britain. We should be spending loads of money.

Those noodle partnerships don't just happen for anybody you know.

Because the effective cost of Rojo is £21m - you wouldn't have got Rojo without agreeing to continue pay Nani's wages even tho' he's now not available to play for you.

I wasn't talking about our overall spending but the fact that you had eluded to. You said we have spent £100m on Mata and Di Maria. But the thing is you also £100m but no one you got even comes close to the quality that we have in Mata and Di Maria. And I wasn't trying to deflect anything. I was trying to make a comparison.

If we sign Di Maria, i think we are only 2 top signings away from being a team who can challenge for the Champions League trophy itself, i know that's a big claim since we don't have Champions League football, but players we have available to us its just like 2 positions really, centre midfield and a really top class centre back.

If we sign a Vidal and someone Vlaar, i wouldn't fear us going against anyone in Europe.

-----------------De Gea
---------Evans---Vlaar---Rojo
Valencia------------------------Shaw
------Vidal---Herrera(Carrick)---Di Maria
------------------Mata
--------------Rvp-----Rooney

====

------------De Gea
Rafael----Vlaar---Rojo------Shaw
Januzaj-----Vidal----Herrera----Di Maria
------------Rooney(Mata)
--------------RVP

==========

------------De Gea
Rafael----Vlaar---Rojo------Shaw
---Vidal----Herrera(Carrick)----Di Maria
-----Mata(Januzaj/Kagawa)--Rooney
---------------RVP

Various formations.

We had to pay Nani's wages anyway to sit on the stand and make a few appearances here and there so it's little effect.

I doubt anyone would have paid 100% of his wages anywhere on loan.

Maybe he'll play in a midfield 2 with Herrera. Not like we haven't won the league before by playing with 2 neutral-attacking CM's. Someone like fletcher can be subbed for Mata and be played behind them if we need reinforcements mid-match
Doubt it. Van Gaal saying that thing about not using a 4-3-3 because we don't have a winger like Di Maria is a pretty clear indication that he'll play on the wings.

Van Persie
Rooney - Mata - Di Maria
Herrera - Carrick

Can also rotate in Januzaj for any of the front 4 positions. Is there a stronger attack in the league? Only Chelsea is comparable IMO. Just put Strootman in for Carrick when we go in for him too and the midfield would be sorted as well.

Reus at 25m will be the muppet target for every top club next summer.

And Van Gaal thinks more deeply about football than the whole caf put together, so he will have a cogent plan for Di Maria if he is shelling out 50 million. This is not a random Fellaini-type signing.

Of course he will have thought it through, and I don't think anyone can question the legitimacy the Di Maria signing (if it does indeed happen) in isolation, unless they're stark raving bonkers. Manchester United, one of the biggest, richest clubs in the world have decided to use some of their enormous wealth to purchase a top-class attacking player. Questions could be asked about the wisdom of the broader strategy of investment if the midfield and defence are allowed to remain as they are, but of course the window is not yet closed, and we do not appear to be done shopping.

But the thing is the only real competitors might be Bayern and City. Chelsea might be but they seem to have a wealth of options in attacking mid already.

I think its 35m and the Bayern owner was just saying it to piss them off. But anyways, don't think we'll get him anymore. Januzaj and Di Maria on the wings, Rooney up top, Mata in behind seems like what we'll do for the next few years until Rooney is past it. Unless Van Gaal plans on moving Januzaj centrally as a false 9 type player eventually so we can buy Reus on the other side of Di Maria but I can't see it.

It's definitely what I'll be doing on Football Manager and Fifa though

Who cares what we pay, especially when it's for a brilliant player? We're one of the biggest clubs in the world, we have massive revenue earnings, we earn our money through the club and its operations (no help a la City, Chelsea and PSG).

We can do whatever we want with the money we earn. Who gives a shit what any opposition fans think?

Now, that's not to say that we don't need top class midfielders. We do. But we can do that in addition to di Maria's purchase. That's the luxury success and good business grants you. Spurs wouldn't know anything about either, though.

Why shouldn't United spend their own money which they generate themselves as a business, to further strengthen that business? You're saying it like we shouldn't be doing so. Spurs earned a stack of money, albeit mostly from selling Bale, and spent it on a bunch of new players. Is that any different?

Plus, we won't be shelling out 60m in cash for di Maria. It'll be paid periodically, like most transfers, especially larger ones.

Dont think United will be after him anymore if we sign di maria indeed, unless we ditch Mata and RVP somewhere.
RVP is going to be 32 before next season starts. He will be on the decline. If it means we have to let go of RVP to get Reus then by all means yes.

I can see RVP carrying on for bit longer as a very good striker tbh. He doesn't have that much miles on him as Rooney does for example by a distance plus his game is not dependent on explosiveness.

Yeah, true. I forgot about that

We'll have to ditch Mata too, unless we decide to bench Mata/Januzaj.
Januzaj will be what 20 or 21 next season? He still has time to start. Also IF IF IF we get into the Champions League, we are going to be playing more than 50 games next season. And I don't have to tell you how bad our injury problems can get. Having depth in the squad wont hurt. Ask Chelsea and City.

Also, Rooney/RVP/Di Maria will be earning 200k+ a week. That is unprecedented.

£60m eh? That'd take your net spend on additions to the title-winning squad to a cool £210m. Not far thereafter 'til you hit the quarter billion mark.

This has Mata Mark II written all over it: another attacking player who won't solve your CM or defensive problems - problems that should be taking priority over all else.

 Great to see you on the wind up as ever.

You really are best ignored, but sadly people can't resist your brand of nonsense. I am still giggling at your insistence that Bale wouldn't go and how you absolutely disappeared when the inevitable occurred. It made for great fun.

Three world class players earning that much. You can't help it. They wont play for you unless you give them what they want. You have can't have everything you want. You have to be willing to make sacrifices if you want to get to the top.

So you're forgetting that we've already signed Rojo in the last week?

No, I haven't forgotten either him or Hererra. But think of the proven top quality players you could have bought by now for CM and defence given the spending figures I've cited.

He's just sour that he has to settle for Lamela.

a couple of things i want to say about dimaría

1) if he comes, i want Van Gal and his team mates to tell him that diving is frowned upon, i dont want that shit in my team
2) if he comes, i'm delighted to have a player with his hability
3) it´s always good to have players that won a CL and played a world cup final, it adds to the character
4) i'm an argie, but i'm not him, his brother, his father or his friend, so if he screws up, do not come looking for me to give back the 70 million euros, i repeat DO NOT come looking for me

i'm so happy dimaría is coming, i'm like a teanager wetting his undies over a justin beever poster!!!!
Is this a couple of things you wanted to say or have you holding us all ransom? These are all demands!
Number 4 is my favourite though

Glaston's right about our transfers though. They have been awful for years. I think Di Maria will be very good but a quality CM is more urgent.
