Ange Postecoglou | New Spurs boss on 4 year contract

Edit - Original clip got taken down, so used same clip from a different user

Was looking forward to Ange vs Arteta, and the game didn't disappoint. Now looking forward to De Zerbi vs Ange

All those singing praises for Ange, please note that Spurs messed up a few times in the game by passing around the box. It didnt get punished but they did have a few scares. If they had conceded and lost the game, we would say well they spursed it. But when same shit happens with our club everyone questions the manager, the players and is out with pitchforks. Spurs love the fact that they don't have the media eye on them, they can do as they please and are relatively left to enjoy themselves. Ange gets to mate everyone in the press conference, whereas ETH has to deflect from Sancho saga, Ronaldo Saga, Antony Saga, Maguire saga..

That’s a strange sequence to pick in my opinion. Some incredibly high risk decisions and passes in there and a fair bit of luck, I get it’s a more exciting and the transition to attack is very quick but that isn’t sustainable.

It’s the way Ange wants to play there, of course we will loose the ball occasionally, but I don’t think it’s luck by any means, it’s how he has designed and coached the team, every time a player receives the ball in that sequence there is at least one triangle available to him.

Ange being praised for a good start has nothing to do with Ten Hag, stop being so sensitive

Its mostly always high risk when you play like this, thats whole point, high risk high reward, within a few passes they went from getting pressed and nearly losing the ball in a dangerous area to nearly scoring a goal.

When Busquets used to do pirouettes and drag backs close to his 18 yard box many would say that was a high risk decision, but on the flip side inviting pressure and the press opens up things going the other way.

I believe every single player used by Ange against Arsenal had a different nationality, representing 14 different nationalities, 15 counting Ange himself.

Funny how there were times when people would say you need a team with a British core to build an identity. If there was even need to prove otherwise I believe the game yesterday did. Half of the team he used have even been new signings this season (7/14). That’s very impressive gelling over such a short time period.

edit: ah, just realized the goalie and left back are actually both Italian. It’s still impressive, mind!

You're the one comparing our situation with theirs.

If you want to do that, then look at the style of football being played, Ange has been there for a few months, ETH has been here over a year.

ETH has also won a trophy in his first year, it's not the same situation at all.

I do hope our football improves though, it's so boring at the moment.

Ten Hag's United have been playing stinking, boring football since we beat Barca in February.

This is a great video, laying out how Ange wants to play.

Yeah its very interesting. I've noticed how the LB, Udogie, at times is playing as high as a left sided AM/SS which is quite different from how rest of the teams use the inverted FB. Obviously the rotations are very important in a system like this

ETH won a trophy and finished 3rd in his first season while walking into an absolute shitshow. Let’s see if Ange can equal that but he’s already been knocked out of the cup ETH won so it will have to be the F.A Cup or nothing for Spurs in terms of silverware.

Yeah Porro and Udogie constantly pop up in ACM positions.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying, it's not the same situation, so there's no real reason for the initial comparison?

I get you’re very pro Ange and to be honest I see why Spurs fans are after some dour appointments - my point was this sequence was too high risk to be successful consistently and that I would have picked another example but if this is how you see the usual style (and I assume you watch spurs every game given username) I think it will take teams a few more weeks to work out who to press and when and then there’ll be some bad losses.

That is very fair. Especially without Kane.
No doubt he has made a very good start. And I have to say that a lot of that is down to Madison. In my view he is exactly what United should have gone for as he is very good at finding space and moves the ball quickly. We have no one who can play like that.

I am not comparing the two managers. I am saying how frustrating it is that we are unable to judge a manager on the points one should ideally be using a benchmark. Whether Ange is having a new manager bounce only time will tell, but these clubs have it relatively easy on the controversy angle. Thomas Partey is the engine of Arsenal and Arteta gets to play him week in week out, whereas Antony is somewhere, having to answer shit. It is unfair is what I am saying.

To be honest I don't think anybody has been particularly confused about the idea of "needing" a British core for a long time. It's quality of player, plain and simple. That's the prerequisite.

The issue really is that teams should be obliged to field a British core in order that the teams actually represent and show commitment to growing grass roots football and being representative of the country they play in. Then it takes one element of squad building away from whoever can throw the most money about. We're not strong enough on that for me.

The new manager bounce theory would make sense if he was getting these performances from the likes of Lloris/Dier/Emerson Royal/Hoibjerg and the rest of the dross spurs have fielded for the past few seasons.

The fact that it's almost a completely new starting 11 tells me it's no fluke, Spurs despite their failings have been a better run club than united for almost a decade now.

Every Spurs manager starts off like this. Hugging ball boys and the like. Plus it’s always a new manager bounce by 6 games for feck sake

True but they did it playing dog shit football while being carried by Kanes goals. Completely unsustainable considering how shit everyone else was, Vicario/Porro/Udogie/VDV/Bissouma/Sarr/Maddison have all been massive upgrades for them.

Young defender Vušković going to Spurs for 11 million, will stay at Hajduk till the winter, Perišić going the other way, to Hajduk in the winter too.

You can't even compare the 2. Fans love comparing managers that were/are so obviously in different situations. ETH inherited a team that is full of internationals and a team expected to compete for trophies, the pressure isn't the same. ETH had a world cup to deal with in the middle of a season (most of our players are full internationals) our 2 first choice CBs were there till the end. We also had Europe and went far in every competition (had to play an extra 2 games against Barca). Last season we played 70 games, Arsenal in comparison played 49. This season if Spurs reach the final of the FA cup they will have played 46 games in total over the course of this season.

Now in people comparing him to ETH this season. We have UCL, have so far had 12 first team payers out most importantly (our 2 starting CBs), a shitstorm with the sale of the club. 2 separate incidents with our players, women and the law and a useless overpaid winger publicly undermining the manager and we're still only 6 games into the season but people want to assume Ange would come in and have us top of the league.

I rate Ange and what he's done so far at Spurs, he looks like a brilliant manager but let's give it a full season before we get all giddy. People need to put things into context. We could have Pep here right now and we would still be struggling.

But it wasn’t dog shit football at the start of their reigns. We were told it was happy Jose and Conte was proving he wasn’t a pragmatic manager and all this nonsense .

Been a good addition to the league so far and made it a lot more competitive. Think this guy means business.

Our first choice 11 are all so technically good on the ball, no one is hiding from the ball. There are triangles all over the pitch.

True. I really like what has Postecoglou done with this Tottenham team so far. Maddison looks to me like signing of the season(in the PL, at least). Your players(midfielders, especially) are so much comfortable, better with the ball at their feet and are much more physical than ours. I was really envious watching Bissouma driving(carrying) with the ball through the pitch against Arsenal yesterday and just nonchalantly beating the press. I've been crying for a player like that at United for a long time - failure to recruit Frenkie de Jong really was a blow. And we still don't have that archetype of a player, which we so obviously, desperately need. Hope we will one day and I will be alive to witness it.

Instead of your technical midfield, we have what I call a hot potato midfield. They receive the ball and just release it immediately, like it's burning lava, often sending it long in search for Rashford. I would take Maddison over Bruno easily(they're gonna ban me on this forum potentially for saying that).

I remember a lot of counter attacking football with the main tactic being hoof it up to Kane and Son and pray for the best. When is the last time they went to Arsenal, took the game to them and got even a point? Even in the best of the Mourinho and Conte days they would get dominated there.

This reminds me of Bielsa at Leeds. When they're new to the league they're great, but when teams figure out how they play... we'll see. It's too early to judge although they've made a good start.

I’m not comparing him to ETH. What I’m saying is to those that are trying to compare him to ETH. They’re getting giddy and hyping up Ange after six games talking about style of football but ETH achieved 3rd and a trophy in his first season under much harder circumstances which people are quick to forget. Let’s see if Ange can achieve the same if he’s as good as folk say but I doubt it. I’m not hating on Ange either, I like the guy but seems like people are jumping the gun with how well he’s doing when there’s only a very small sample size so far.

What say the caf, Ange or Arteta?

Been brilliant, loved his approach but I think they are getting a free hit at mo.

Spurs were in far worse state when Ange got the job. United had an off season after finishing 3rd and 2nd the previous ones. Spurs didn't even manage to finish top 6 plus losing their best player in summer.

Most importantly, United and Spurs have different set of expectations. League cup for United should be a Mickey Mouse trophy while it'll be a huge achievement for Spurs, for example.

Who cares though? Honestly, it's refreshing to visit a thread that does go over United's issues ad nauseum.
