Ange Postecoglou | New Spurs boss on 4 year contract

He is a very average manager. He biggest club job up to now was Celtic ffs. We have made him look like a top level coach.

On what basis is he a very average manager?
There’s pretty much nothing at all to suggest he’s average. Untested at the highest level yes, but he’s been successful everywhere he has went as well as implementing a clear style of play at every side.

I really didn’t think Spurs were particularly great, I think Fernandes and co made them look a lot better. I think there are other sides in the league will be able to pick them off.

I think united made them look very good. There’s no way united have regressed so the only other explanation is Spurs look to be a good team with definite ambitions of fighting for a top four finish.

I don't think they have been particular impressive yesterday. It was just a shocking performance from our end. A better team could have massacred us. Spurs simply just contained well and tried counter attack which they did very well and not wasteful like ours. We could not even string few passes in the final third to threaten them at all, except for the few good ones at the start which our attackers couldnt even hit the barn door.

He needs some time before he can be properly judged.

spurs have VDV, Udogie and Vicario all playing, what? Their second game together in the league? All three adapting to the style and pace of the EPL.

They have played Sarr and Skip in midfield, surely they will be replaced by Bentancur when fit. Who was Spurs second best player until his injury.

They need competition for Richarlison, could go down injured at any point. And has been poor for Spurs considering the fee.

They have looked alright so far; I think some praise has been a bit over the top. They drew 2-2 against Brentford, which isn't a great result for a team wanting to get top four.

They didn't look any better than Brentford in that game.

Manutd were the better team in the first half but did the typical falling apart in the second.

Tottenham have a long way to go yet.

Even if if he's an elite manager then they're 5th or 6 th this season.

If he plays like this style all season then they're games should be a decent watch, but better teams will have them on toast.

They're no threat for top 6. Every team in the league is capable of playing like they did in the second half with the wind behind them but they were hopeless before that. If the Wolves backlash hadn't happened we would have been given a penalty and would be 2 or 3 up at half time. Then the story is a whole lot different.

They didn't look anything special. They just bullied us with physicality like Wolves did.

Everyone is so reactionary these days.

I’ll wait to see what the likes of Spurs and Newcastle win before gushing over them.

We make these managers look good. He's been there what? 3 to 4 weeks? Already playing better football than we are.

Nah you can’t be giving awards out after 2 games.

I’m not a betting man, but who would you put your money on to finish higher in the table.

It’s not a question btw…we all know the answer.

I think they are gonna struggle this season tbh. We were absolutely rancid yesterday but they still didn't look particularly impressive.

We weren't great but it's two games in, just sold our best player and with a squad most think is shite.

Hopefully get a signing or two in before the deadline and give Ange time to get us playing a bit more coherent. Right now I'm just glad to have a manager that doesn't hate us tbh.

Well hopefully it's us, and I don't think anyone is coming to huge conclusions after two games, it's more the full year at United that's the issue than a couple of okay games for Spurs.

They badly need a front 3 to suit his style. It’s no coincidence the goals have come from defenders and midfielders so far.

If he is given money to invest from the Kane funds he will be successful.

They looked about as good as Wolves who were away from home. So if United haven’t regressed then Wolves look to be a good team, and actually didn’t just go and get tanked off Brighton?

Sounds like a top bloke who you would happily have a drink down the pub with.

You can't say his lack of big team management is a symptom of him being an average manager. You're talking as if ex A-league players are well known for jumping straight into big management roles, and if he hasn't managed a big European team by now he can't be any good. Everything in his career so far points at him being good. So let's wait and see what he is like in the prem

Give it a few months. Spurs will still be shit. New manager giddiness. Their team is still bang average and will come to show by Christmas. Nothing to see here.

Such an average and underwhelming manager.

Bissouma looks incredible. That's all I can take from today's game regarding them.

Given Caicedo went for 100m+, Bissouma looks an absolute steal. Otherwise yeah, I agree. They looked shit against Brentford and are very vulnerable to the counter. They'll get taken apart soon enough.

And that’s probably why he’ll fail. Ole was a top bloke too.

I love Ole but this is taking the piss. Ange has suceeed everywhere he's been, ole did a decent job at Molde, had a torrid time at Cardiff and a largely mediocre spell overall at United.

Tottenham have at least shown they have a semblance of a plan even if some of the key players don't seem to really fit into what he wants to do, apart from that spell when he first arrived where we were killing teams on the counter we never seemed to have a pattern of play with Ole.

They don't need to be a top tier team competing with City, they just need to be competing with Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle, United to be in the mix for CL places. Chelsea certainly have not looked convincing, United have looked average as well. Once all the games start kicking in we will see how Newcastle goes managing Europe and competing in the league and cups.

If they spend the Kane money wisely they could bring in a backup striker to Richarlison, who has been pants for them and can go down injured at any point, and another CB to rotate with VDV and Romero. They should be good to compete with afore mentioned teams in that scenario.

The Wolves game showed United regressed, wtf are you on about ?

He has a cold distant relationship with his players , strictly professional. Has never kept in touch with his past players (unless its for his benefit, bringing kewell into his coaching set up after ending his playing career at their ex club).

This top bloke stuff is for the media and fans. Not the way ole seemed to be doing it, being the players pal and a meek shell of a man. etc.

Hide your J league players.

Not watched Celtic once when he was there but surprised no one's in for someone like Furuhashi who scored 34 goals last season.

"How can he get the team playing so much better after such short time compared to Ten Hag"

Wait for a month or two after "new manager bounce" passes, then we can talk. People repeat this mistake with new managers over and over again and never learn.

The most important part is there is no evidence to suggest he’ll do well in the premier league. Doing well in Scotland with Celtic isn’t really a gauge of how well he’ll do. We’ve seen Gerrard and Rodgers do well there and then end up with mediocre to embarrassing tenures in the premier league.

An average performance against a Brentford team and a win against Utd (which if we’re honest the game should have been beyond spurs in the first half) isn’t really a start to be singing and dancing about.

Spurs fans are happy because they aren’t being served that dross they got last season with park the ball football. I’ve no doubt spurs will play much better football (which isn’t hard from last season). However, it will result in a mid table finish with nothing much to aim for.

Yeah it's ridiculous how goldfish like the memory of pundits is now. I actually think they are incredibly average, it's great for their fans that they have moved on from Conte, Mou etc. football but I can see them being on the end of some real hammerings this season, we are a really disjointed team and probably should have won that game hen you look at the chances we had.

Yeah we beat Barca over two legs last year and there was a time when people were (foolishly) talking about a title challenge. We were playing some very good stuff during that run. Plus we had the pressure of winning / competing which Spurs don’t.

So far, it jut seems like Spurs have transitioned from being all about their front 3, for the last few years, to now being all about their midfield. The rest of the team looks pretty average so far, but the midfield of Bissouma, Maddison and Sarr, is very good and will carry them to some extent. It's like in Conte's first season when they finished 4th, it was Kane, Son and Kulusevski that got them there. Bissouma is so dominant, Maddison has a real swagger about him and Sarr is going to one Madrid, PSG or City in the next few years.
