Anelka at West Brom | Sleeve Touching/Homage/Hate Swipe Controversy

Feel for those guys with him in their FF team.

Christ that guy has had more clubs than I have had hot dinners.

A sulk from the first day of his career, to his last. Ahh well, at least he's consistent.

I thought the days of being Le Sulk were long gone? Shit for West Brom, who had a lot of hopes for the new season pinned on him I imagine...

Time to make a fantasy team transfer.

Chris Lepkowski ‏@chrislepkowski 1m #wba confirm that Anelka will not be involved in Saturday’s game. The club have excused the striker from club duty on compassionate grounds.

Chris Lepkowski ‏@chrislepkowski 13s #wba insist Anelka has NOT retired. I understand his agent has died - which has hit him badly. What the future holds, we'll see

I have no idea how to embed tweets.

I shall wait to see his reasons for getting annoyed with him. I'd much prefer if he's decided he just can't be bothered with it that he retires now rather than bleeding out a year of his wages. That said it appears he hasn't fully retired. Club says excused from saturday's game based on compassionate grounds, so we'll see. Seem's like it may be a personal issue.

Perfect excuse to post this masterpiece in marketing -

Isn't his agent his brother?

The Telegraph saying that there may have been a personal tragedy in his life.

Why would that make him clear out his locker rather than just shoot off to be with his family?

WBA site just says that he's been excused from their next game on compassionate grounds.

I was going to make a Paul Stretford joke before someone mentioned that it was Anelka's brother. That's very depressing.

Stupid twitter and SSN.

RIP to his brother/agent if he has died.

The loss of a family member affects everyone differently.

Agreed, but just thought for most the instinct would be to get to where you need to be. Not sure how the story escalated to him quitting and/or retiring.

I would presume he was seen leaving training midway through or something and the story escalated that he quit from there.

Now it might be an agent who isn't his brother.

On a lighter note, look at my newfound Tweet embedding skills.

So in the category of 'the press happily make shit up all the time', in the short time the false story about his retirement was alive, we had one outlet quoting him as being 'crushingly disappointed' to have joined WBA, and one claiming that he had a row with a coach and stormed out of training.

Seems legit, British press.
