Andy Madley

Iv never seen us have to defend so many free kicks from around our box. Arsenal were just flopping to the floor and he gave every time. Anything similar for us though? No chance.

Dished yellows out like no tomorrow aswell, and the penalty decision was awful, that after he didn't give Bruno a free kick on the edge of there box. For a blatant foul.

I normally try and give refs the benefit of the doubt, but that was genuinely awful today.

It was comical, arsenals gameplay seemed to be to win soft free kicks over and over, take an absolute age to take them. No wonder they’re not going to win the league.

The fact he was giving soft fouls and didn’t give that Bruno one. Absolute maniac.

While I've ranted once or twice in this chat, the issue here is that certain referees allow tactics like we've seen from Arsenal to dominate the game, as opposed to it being a flowing game of football with two teams attacking and defending well. It's not his personal supporter bias or any ABU mentality. What we had today was a referee who couldn't manage a game, couldn't deal with a team that is unsportsmanlike and in his ear and who is intimidated by fans, but who still enjoys the power. When that happens, some of the players from the team who are on the receiving end of that poor refereeing start to make bad decisions themselves and further ruin the game.

Madley is the worse type of referee. While often entertaining for the neutrals (and stressful for the two sets of fans) a game that is all about the referee and ends up with teams squaring up to each other is almost always down to the that referee's appalling game management and their power trip.

The refereeing in this country is largely garbage. It's about time we used referees from other countries.

I agree. I’ve said this numerous of times. Referees from Spain/Italy are so much better. All ours need going back on courses

People often say 'refreeing are terrible' in this country. But what i don't understand is: why are they 'incompetent' against one team only? Surely they'd make poor decisions for both teams. I give you exhibit A: Andrew Madley in FA cup game Arsenal v Man Utd!

That was so poor today, people going about no VAR. Just poor standard of officiating, no control in a big game. Handing yellow cards out like sweets. Looked so out of his depth.

Ironically, I thought Oliver let the game flow v Liverpool and helped make it a very very good game of football (Maguire yellow aside)… and he’s usually a useless cnut.

I'll need a quote or interview here to believe that he actually said that
I may have been done by the United stand. They tweeted a quote saying he said it, as have many other similar type accounts. Can’t find a clip though so it could be bullshit.

*checked for longer after writing the top part and it looks likely that’s it’s false.

Not even Arteta could be delusional enough to think and then say that :D

Extremely poor referee. Stopped the game at every possible moment and was on a mission against us. Thoughts and prayers with him.

The foul numbers actually mean nothing. It's what constituted a foul to an Arsenal player is what was infuriating. We weren't allowed any physical contact on them whatsoever.

That foul given against Collyer when he just jumped and won the ball was something else

There were multiple instances where I couldn't see what foul he'd even made up.

Just so I understand what's happened here. Amad goes for the ball, gets clattered by two arsenal players who get nowhere near it, and then Arsenal get to play with 2 extra players to top it off.

Oh and Havertz was also allowed to use his hands.
True. Funny the absence of comment on that one.

Brilliant performance from him today, we struggled to handle him, he was a constant threat all over the pitch. Madley will be disappointed with the result, but he couldn't have offered his team any more than he did.
True. Was just a bit unlucky, but he can build on this. Still seems to need settling into the team.

Would it be given in the box?

If not, why different rules?
Yes, it would.

The ref's overall performance was abysmal - possibly the worst I've seen and someone was always getting sent off but genuinely the two yellows that Dalot got were the only two justifiable ones

We had 25 fouls but the ball was only in play for about 20 minutes due to arsenal constantly wasting time
