This is just based on hope.

Good pressing and the cross was nice though.
If we can "hope" and give countless of chances to a shit player like Lingard at the age of 27 why wouldn't we be doing at least the same with a more talented younger footballer like Pereira?

You are obsessed with Lingard. Pereira is not more talented.

He has decent offensive play. I still dont understand why hes rated so highly though.

For me just his shot. He isnt getting into positions to use it often enough at the moment

Was a great cross for the goal as well though

Think there is a good player in there. Just needs to be given a chance to settle in. His cross was a peach and I do feel he can make things happen in the final 3rd. Just never play in the holding role still have nightmares about the Brighton game with him and Fred.

It surprised me he started yesterday, and I thought he was pretty invisible but did get that assist though. It's a bit tricky, maybe a run of games will see him settle more into the premier league, the pace and physicality. However at this point I'd almost rather give Gomes the chance.

Yes yes, you still guarding the Lingard thread or what?

Pereira is evidently more talented and cultured footballer than "runs a lot" Lingard. It just shows the hypocrisy of some of you Lingard apologists, supposedly saying that a 23 year old Pereira could improve with a consistent run in the team is just based on hope, but persisting with obviously shit average 3 years older Lingard who has about one purple patch in his career is hating when we point out that it's not good enough?

I’m glad he’s being given a chance, I’d rather he started than Mata. We know exactly what Mata brings and it isn’t going to get us to where we need to be.

I would agree that he’s probably got more of an upside than Lingard too.

He did exactly what he did best in Spain... putting a great cross.

If it works for Ole he may be useful, but needs definitely defensive awareness as Chelsea attackers just went through our midfield in the first half like there's no one there.

Like McTominay, he isn't really good enough to be a permanent starter for a team aspiring to win trophies but should easily be good enough as a squad option to cover for other players when needed.

Trouble is I'm not sure what he exactly is. He's not really a central midfielder but he's also not a winger.
Unlike Mctominay I'm not sure he's good enough as a squad option either. He seems to excel in the odd moment here or there and doesn't seem to shine consistently when required to deal with a lack of space. Seems a final third player who isn't particularly prolific in the final third. Can see him eventually up at a team like Everton.

I think he did a poor job marking Jorginho who was allowed to dictate play and set up alot of Chelsea attacks especially in the first half. Probably why he was shifted out wide in the second half.

It was a beautiful cross to be fair, probably the best one I've seen from a united side for a long time.

He looked really tired to me, I think he struggled with the tempo of the match.

There's hope in Fred as he's more suited to faster tempo and I think Ole should rotate, especially against teams with more clinical finishers.

Other than that, not much of a choice tbh.

You calling him “runs a lot” Lingard is hilarious when you are trying to claim Pereira is better .

Pereira is not evidently more talented at all. If he was English he would be treated like Tom Cleverley. You are deluded.

Two wrongs make a right?

I thought he was decent but needs to show that he can do more on the ball as whilst the cross was great I don't think he did too much more on the ball. That said I do think he showed why he can be useful being that he can play anywhere across the 3 behind the striker which helped with the fluidity as he could fill in on the wings as needed through the match. With his workrate then that will be useful but I think between him and lingard they need to step up their creativity if we did go ahead with them as the main 2 alongside Rashford and Martial.

Pereira is clearly a more technical player than Lingard, but he doesn't have as much effect on a football match.
Lingard has more drive and influence on the game (more than Pereira but not nearly enough for a utd player).
Pereira feels a bit like a slightly faster Mata playing on the right, neat and tidy, can score the odd goal or assist, but ultimately too weak and too often a bystander to the core of the match.

Two wrongs make a right?
Of course not. But Pereira is barely starting his career here, I'm willing to give him this season as a chance to prove himself to stay and be a valuable squad member, and at the age of 23 he might still do that, has already showed some glimpses of what he can do.

Lingard is 3 years older and we all know what we are getting with him. The poster I replied is one of his staunchest supporters despite him being absolutely useless, the same guy is telling others how Pereira coming good is only based on hope.

Haram, pal you are probably the most deluded Lingard fan on here, I doubt that his grandad rates him as much as you. Being English and homegrown combined with how inept the club is being run is the only thing that keeps Lingard here. Pereira might turn out not being good enough, Lingard for sure is absolutely not good enough, and that is the point.

The assist aside, he didn't do very much apart from huff an puff but was miles away from Chelsea's CMs. Throw Fred in there against Wolves and let Pogba play higher up the pitch

Agree. Pereira looks busy but ultimately never really gets involved eg putting in a tackle.

Kostov is mad I called him out for coming in here talking about Lingard. He then says Pereira is more talented than Jesse because he seems to be permanently angry about Lingard.

Saying Pereira will be good with a run of games is just hope because he has barely shown anything in his career. That’s the truth.

I can see pereira slipping behind greenwood, fred and gomes by the end of the season.

Hes an option, but probably not good enough ultimately.

Don't see a player positionally aware enough to play in the center. His crossing is his best attribute - and honestly, among the best of a bad bunch - so he would have more use on the wing/out wide for me. I thought he'd come good but his spot in yesterday's team is the most obvious place to upgrade for me.

I hate this fiction about his set-piece delivery. His corners were terrible! I don't know why that myth keeps getting put out there.

He is a nothing player. Having him out there is like defending with ten men, he looks like hs is giving maximum effort to hassle and run, but he never actually accomplishes anything! Its almost amazing to see how easily the opposition play around him as if he's not even there.

He is a poor man's Tom Cleverly, and that is being generous.

You called me out?

It was actually me who pointed out to your hypocrisy about you dismissing a 23 year old clearly talented player, after he just had a better game than Lingard, who I'm sure you wanked over in his thread, for pressing and contributing close to nothing.

Pereira has shown barely anything in his career? Yes he's shown very little and at 23 has a bit more time before he is the finished product. He has shown that he can be a good player, although in glimpses and not on regular bases. Perhaps you should ask yourself the same question when you peddle the same excuses for a 27 year old number 10 with 15 assists in his career here.

Ouch, a poor man’s Cleverly... harsh. Offensively I think he is okay but defensively he is just... porous. Too small to body anyone off the ball and too slow to cut off people or passes. For a young guy he does get passed by a lot.

He didn’t have a better game than Lingard though.

Literally someone name me games where Andreas has been stand out and then you can say he is better than Lingard.

Haha I really rated Cleverly back in the day.

I just don't like Pereira at all. He annoys me. And wow I hope Kostov doesn't see this!

He actually did. Contributed in the pressing game just as much, had couple of successful tackles, assisted nicely for the third. If Lingard did the same you would be singing him praises.

Actually hilarious how worked up he gets about Lingard. He’s deluded himself into thinking Pereira is the better player . Lad has done feck all.

I think the point he is making is that we already know Lingard is a useless player, Andreas at least still has (a little) time to prove otherwise.

Sums it up.

Obsession about Lingard is unreal on here. You lot should share your montages of the fantastic goals that you have scored against PL opposition. :)

Back to the topic: Pereira is a midfield player and needs to be more confident with his passing. He will get a lot of chances this season because Ole did the right thing by not signing any random player to fill up for Herrera and Fellaini. Pereira and Fred will benefit from that and will be more effective this season.

This. Other than the assist for Martial, he didn’t really do anything else. Certainly not enough to make you start screaming for Ole to include him in the starting XI for the next game.

His set pieces were really poor considering the aerial threat that we had.

Besides the assist I think he had a poor game, good attitude but very little to show. I still don't know what the feck does Fred in training that he can't even take Andrea's place.

Can we all just agree that Lingard and Pereira played ok yesterday and leave it at that? I don't think there's many who think either of them should be in Man United's first team but bitching about either/both of them yesterday is odd and making it some sort of Vs battle is boring.

They both weren't good yesterday. Just because we had a great win it doesn't means everything is rosy as much losing doesn't mean everything is doom and gloom.

Hopefully Fred gets given a chance, because his ceiling is imo clearly higher than Pereira and McTominay.
