He’s a youth prospect and I am a little disappointed how some fans don’t have any patience with him. If he can step up one level, he can become a great player for us. Also, what options do we have? We could play Greenwood and Gomes instead. But what if they don’t make a mark either? We won’t show patience with them either. “Giving kids a chance” isn’t just all rosy. There are going to be periods of frustration. But let’s not forget just how talented Pereira was at youth stages.

He's soon to be 24. He's no prospect. This is his level.

He’s not even 24 until Jan! At the same stage De Bruyne was at Wolfsburg and wasn’t even guaranteed a starting spot. This could go on to be his breakout season.

He should be in the position Mata is playing. He is not a winger

He should first show that he can perform at the level of the likes of Lingard and string a few passes together before striving for KDBs level. Other than running around, he's been absolutely useless on the ball/in attack for us.

It won't. I just don't see it. He's below average. Not even Lingard level, who's being crucified on here. At least KdB had clear glimpses of his potential.

If he has a breakout season he wont be below average. Probably wont be near KDB anyways, but does he really have to be? We have a lot more talented players coming through, but that doesn't mean Pereira can't play a part if he indeed does have a breakout season. His age is right , and he'll be awarded a lot of playing time for the rest of the season. I'd say if he avoids injuries, he'll either step up a notch or be displaced by Gomes. Hopefully both things happens.

He has shown nothing to suggest he can move up any more levels. He is bang average.

I’ll disagree with that. He has a great technique, works as hard as anyone, and has the hunger. Every manager he’s played for, including Mourinho has praised his attitude in training. Sure he’s not put it all together just yet but I am willing to give the boy a shot at it.

No need to throw him under the bus. He works hard and has the right attitude. Give him time and get him playing in the middle. He is better than Lingard, Matic, Mata and has the right attitude.

Patience, it's not like he has played too much PL-football. The attitude is spot on and he has the technical abilities to be a useful player, if not a regular starter than at least a squad player.

Don't see it with him. No reason not to be playing Greenwood or Chong ahead of him as a winger, and in the middle I'd rather see Gomes get a shot.

I haven’t so much as seen a good 90 minutes from this guy yet, never mind a run of games.

I can live with young players (if he counts as young) being inconsistent, this is why I have a lot of patience with Rashford. You look at their best performances and hope that as they get older they have them more often. Look at lots of top players and that’s how it panned out, the talent was there from the start but it was experience that allowed them to maximise the talent.

But with Pereira, his best performances have been totally ordinary. To think that he has levels he’ll suddenly go up through feels like wishful thinking, sadly.

He works hard and that’s it.

He should be, he played there on loan in Spain, iirc.

Yes he played there in Spain but that doesn't mean it's his best position

He is right footed and hasn't got the pace to make an impact attacking wise however he does work hard off the ball and gives the team a different balance

Maybe I missed the sarcasm but De Bruyne was a guaranteed starter for Wolfsburg.

He's done nothing with his so called great technique. Thinks too slowly, exectutes too slowly, no pace, no real strength, no passing quality. All he does is run around and put in one decent cross/hit an good freekick per game.

Sure. And maybe Lingard will turn into Messi once he turns 28. Look, I'm actually pretty patient with young players but not when I genuinely don't see the quality. Periera has been dreadful in every single he's played this season. It's not even like 20 mins here and there of not being useful. He has a moment/a cross/a shot per game, which is nothing. There's no genuine glimpses of talent, moments of true quality in amidst lack of end product which you usually expect from the talented young players.

I guess we have to that hope that

  • He's showing a lot of natural talent in training
  • He has a terrific mentality which has impressed Ole
And that over time those two make things work for him.

I thought that he was good during the first 15 minutes and then he completely disappeared. He is a pretty strange player, I couldn't describe what he is.

I have no idea why Andreas is getting minutes over Gomes? Gomes is by far the superior player- technically on another level, speed of thought way ahead and has way more creativity!

He's still suffering from the same problem he's had for years. Not being given consistent game time in a position that suits him.

We need to show more patient as we can't afford to throw our senior players off the bus and play youth as soon as they have a bad game or two.

I have no doubt Pereira, Mata, Matic and Lingard will soon be dropped (latter 2 were dropped) IF our youth players show they are ready for the first team when given chances to impress as the season progresses, starting from mid-week game vs Astana

He's suffering due to a lack of ability.
I get it too when I'm playing in my 5 a-side team.

Completely anonymous again after that early free kick. When he plays on the right people excuse him for not being a winger, when he plays inside he's no better and people say play him out wide for his delivery - he's just not good enough anywhere. It's not a lack of patience he's literally not had one good game - ever.

Since when has somebody 'trying' been a barometer for their inclusion?

its because of what Andreas offers off the ball I expect

same with Lingard

I keep saying this, but every time I see our team with either of Lingard, Mata, or Matic in it. I close my eyes when they are on the ball, as I know for sure they are going to lose it.
Mata, ends up on the ground when anyone bumps off him.
Lingard, Puts too many passes astray and loses possession on us.
Matic, is slower than slow now and needs to go.
Pereira, Just not good enough for United. Had plenty of chances and failed

We should be trying Gomes and Garner in these positions, but Ole doesn't seem to trust them yet.

For me because we got rid of players which was right but didn't replace them, we have a very light squad at moment and we have a number of squad players starting games. I think he's one of them.

He is lacking in a few areas but he definitely puts in one of the best shifts every game.

Happy to see him get chances as long as he keeps that up, every team needs hard workers.

This isn't Division 2,mate.

His first season at Wolfsburg was his break out season. He was a guaranteed starter in the second season he was there but not the first. He was about the same age as Pereira in the first season. Also I only used De Bruyne as an example to show that 23 year olds can still be considered good prospects.

How was he not a guaranteed starter, he started every league games possible? And his break out season was the previous one with Werder.

I had my facts wrong. Checked his wiki and figured I don’t remember him for first season because he only moved there in January. My point was more about how a 23 year old can still be considered a prospect. Would you say he was a complete player from the first day at Wolfsburg or was his first season more of a breakout season?

His breakout season was for Werder, at Wolfsburg he simply confirmed what he was doing the previous season and continued to grow from that. Now about Pereira the main issue is that he hasn't had a breakout season and no one is really able to tell what his role is supposed to be.

Edit: It you are looking for late bloomers, there is Matuidi and Drogba or even Fletcher.

To me, it looks like his confidence is shot. Maybe the pressure of playing for United is too much for him because for our youth team, Granada and Valencia, he was a player who always looked to play forwards and attempt defence splitting passes; none of which we're seeing him even attempt at the moment.

Absolutely hilarious that posters are now comparing Pereira with Kevin De Bruyne, just because both weren't world class at 23. I wasn't world class at 23 either....

Not to mention that at 23 KDB was a lot better than Pereira now

The new Lingard then

Lingard part 2. Hes been crap for years

Whatever, mate.

Let’s just have a team showboaters who can only be arsed putting in a shift every few games then shall we?

Agree that we've probably seen the bet of Lingard but Pereira's literally had about half a season playing for us...

I don't particularly rate him but he's a decent option to have in the squad and could still improve his game.
