Mata was far better against Southampton then Andreas has been so far this season.
Disagree, think Pereira was better against better opposition in Chelsea than Mata vs Southampton. Especially because Mata was only 'good' vs Southampton for one half.

Thought bar his assist Andreas was dreadful against Chelsea. Was his usual routine, run around a lot without actually winning the ball back, coupled with not really being on the ball a lot, and invariably not being very good when actually on the ball.

Another average squad player starting regularly. Play mediocrity, expect mediocrity. We reap what we sow, too many squad players tasked with being regular starters.

There is a BIG difference between defending Pogba and defending Andreas Pereira.

Pogba at Andreas age currently had already lined up alongside Iniesta, Messi and CR7 in the world XI. Don't be foolish. There's absolute levels in football and a few levels between Andreas Periera and PP. I also defended other players because they deserved it and critized because they deserve it but of course you wouldn't care to mention it too.

There is literally no difference since you are not defending their performances or anything they're actually doing but fanboyishly defending your favorites regardless of how well or poorly they are doing on, or off, the pitch.

Some reflection desperately needed here.

You just admitted to it.

It does not matter that Pogba is better than Andreas Pereira when we are talking about your instinct to shut down any criticism of your favorite player rather than honestly discussing their performances. If you really, really like Pogba (which is a good example since you're probably two of his most rabid defenders) and he performs really, really badly in a game, rather than going on a crusade (or jihad) on his 'haters' in the performance forums - just don't go there.

Pogba has performed way better than Pereira this season. Does this help?

And Pereira has been performing better than Mustafi. How relevant is this to what we are discussing exactly?

It's about the way of arguing and fanboy defending regardless of performance, not objectively measuring Pereira against Pogba so far.

Even if it was relevant I don't think beating this Championship standard player in performances is something to brag about - do you?

All correct.

Andreas simply isn't good enough. When he has time and space he looks great, hence why he excels in preseason. Under actually competitive conditions he gets shown up for what he is: not good enough for a top level club.

I watched Madrid vs Villareal last night and I can't see how Pereira would start for Villareal, Villareal who are 16th in Spain at the moment. I can see him leaving United and eventually making a decent living for himself at Braga or something.

He's not a United player and a good long shot cant change that.

Imagine we had Januzaj our on the right instead.

Mata was far better against Southampton then Andreas has been so far this season.

Totally agree. Although I am not Mata's biggest fan he produced some good moments in the game on Saturday. He has class and shows it in most games when he plays and his ball retention is also very good, unfortunately though he doesn't not suit our system or playing style. Ole wants young and energetic which is why he choosing the likes of Pereira over him. I personally think this is a mistake as I think Mata will always give you more break through moments in a game and I value this much more than having someone very average running around a lot.

I still don't really get where he's meant to play in Ole's system, his main job seems to just be running across the pitch and following the ball. I feel a bit sorry for him because he was so highly rated initially and he's now developed into one of those players who doesn't really seem to have a specialist role but is retaining his place because he works hard and puts a shift in, essentially a new Lingard type player.

I think Ole might as well do what Jose did a couple of times and play Rashford RW, he won't enjoy it as much but he grafts and has genuine pace. On the counter he then remains a threat but also, as long as he stays wide, we might actually get some genuine width out there ans player who will take people on. I don't think it's a long term solution but it's better than having Pereira there in my opinion.

Nothing player.

Shocking that Ole believes he should start for us.

I just compared their performances which you criticised others didn't.

That's not how it works though.
We need to buy these "inferior" players because the top players don't want to join this united side.
Next year, when De Gea and Pogba leave and no top 4 has been accomplished, why would, let's say Sancho, even want to join?

I much rather had an "inferior" player for this year on a low-ish salary that helps us achieve top 4, then to have no player and fail top 4.
Building takes several years and little by little you improve on the players you have. That means those inferior players will be shifted out after 2 years.
That's how it normally works

United is not the powerhouse it used to be. Out of the top 6, we might edge Arsenal and Chelsea due to the wages we offer.
Surely we must've learned something with the amount of duds we've amassed over the last 6+ years? Our recruitment strategy has been of a short-term view, which the club probably thought would pay dividends immediately with top tier titles. Whether Sancho arrives or not is irrelevant. Eventhough many reputable journos in England have gone on record to state his preference would be to join United if he were to move back to England. So if that is the case, then it's better to wait a year rather than make the same mistakes we've been making for many a year now.

United is definitely still a powerhouse off the pitch which is why I'm still very optimistic we can turn things around with a bit of patience and due dilligence.

Perriera imo is technically excellent, has a good football brain and apparently covers a lot of ground.
His main problem is that he seems not up to speed with EPL.
I think football in Southern Europe would suit him better.

I've never understood what his role is or his best position. Even last year when he was all the rage on the caf and Mctominay was getting slated I could at least point out that we knew what Mctominay's role in the team actually was, same with Fred even though he played poor. I hope i'm wrong but i'm just not seeing it with this kid, not as a DM, a box to box or an attacking midfielder.

Yet another overhyped nothing player from the academy. The caf was convinced 2-3 years ago that he was the solution to all our creative vows in midfield, and that the managers were stupid for sending him out on loan instead of using him.

And now that he's a proven dud they move on to overhyping the next bunch of kids. We'll all of a sudden start winning again when the magnificent class of 19 start getting games. Rinse and repeat.
Yup, just take a look at the "next season/future United XI" threads from over the summer. Most posts will have 3 or 4 of our academy players in the first XI and another 3 or 4 on the bench.

You could say the same about the more established players too.

And remember, every great player was once a youth player coming through a academy somewhere around the world.

Can someone please explain to me what Pereira is? He's not big, he's not strong, he's not quick, he's not tenacious, he's not got superlative technique, he doesn't run all day, he's... Well... He's just sort of there. In short, I think he might be the Brazilian Tom Cleverley. Absolutely bang average at everything. Not awful, not an embarrassment, just mediocrity personified.

He's on track.
I advise him to listen to the choir: spare some energy, run less without the ball, be more fresh on the ball and make the difference cause he can.
Now who will be applauding?

Yh I don't thin anyone ever has - I thought he was a CM/AM, then Valencia played him out wide, Mou thought he could make a DM and now Ole has him as a RW or LW. He's just never developed properly into a role and plays like it, he's a bit all over the place and doesn't get on the ball/create space for himself anywhere near enough.

For all those slating Andreas, remember he signed a new contract recently so someone wants him to remain in this squad. Don't think he'll be going any where anytime soon. Also I notice many got caught up in the pre season Muppet madness due to his performances in low stakes friendlies. 'Tis why I try not to even watch pre season games most Summers

Don't know why there is a debate over these 2 as neither are good enough to wear the jersey now. Gomes or Chong would be better to us, than either of these.

I dunno about Chong... lad looks way out of his depth every time I've seen him play with the first team.

I don't actually know what he offers? No pace, no creativity, no ball retention.

Very limited player, no pace, no strength, passing is OK but he's closed down so quickly or he can't shake off his man that its almost impossible for him to do long range passing. In reality he shouldn't even be on the bench but the pathetic state of affairs this club is in right now he finds himself in the first team.

To be fair he's been asked to play in a position that isn't his natural game

I think his best position is a 8 but I would play Fred or Mctominay ahead of him

I would say he's a very poor man's Coutinho, James Rodriguez type. Pereira has a decent long range shot on him, has scored a good amount while coming up through the ranks and can find a pass or two but he has to be in a much lower league to stand out. He's just nowhere near good enough to be an attacking or central midfielder at a high level so far and no chance he's a winger or holding midfielder but can do all these roles lower down. He's versatile but needs to be playing in a smaller league.

His long range curling shots has to be the best part of his game. He's also shown good work rate last season trying to fill other roles which seems to have impressed Ole. I get the sense Pereira feels he belongs at a big club and is desperate but really should've been moved on to help him find his level and then make a move to a bigger club later in his career when he's matured enough.

What does he offer exactly? If it's shit performances then he's performing very well.

Most useless player on the pitch. You really don't what he's supposed to do.

This guy is quite awful. Several gos now in the line up and he still produces terrible games, not quiet or average and the the likes, he downright produces terrible games.

He's lucky he's making the squad let alone starting games after games.

Not good enough. Gave it away countless amount of times, and has no impact at all in our games. Passenger. Just like Mata and Matic.

Simply not good enough

He tries but the quality isn’t there. Fred should be starting in front of him.

Useless at RW and decent when central but doesn't look good enough.
