He's a tidy player Pereira ,and did reasonably well against Wolves, but he's nothing more than that at present.
People comparing him to Kroos and Coutinho well at present its laughable.

He made 23 appearances last season for Valencia scoring 1 goal.

We all want him,and others,to achieve great things for us but a big dollop of perspective is needed, please.

How many Valencia games did you watch?

What does that got to do with anything? Kroos scored 5 goals from 27 appearances last season.

I agree he's not Kroos level yet. But he's more than a tidy player. McTominay Is someone that I would class as tidy player. Pereira takes risk in his play.

Hope he'll get plenty of playing time this season. My only concern is him being a bit light weighted for the midfield battle (must bulk up :wenger:).

please learn to read before you start typing, no one is comparing him to Coutinho or Kroos, people who watched him play and most of them saw his first steps as a United player form the academy years are predicting him to develop in these types of players. Not sure if I saw Kroos anywhere? he's a different player but he could be something between Coutinho/Modric TYPEWISE, depends how he develop.

He's about the same age as when Coutinho broke through at Liverpool where he had so much less competition in his position, I guess it wasn't that difficult to standout next to someone like Aspas or Markovic in that poor liverpool team, they also played some proactive attacking football, which suit him very much, whereas Pereira was send out on loan because he's too young and unexperienced for the pragmatic coach, in the very defensive philosophy in a more disciplined position.

Also he played 29 games for a team that ended up 4th in La liga, as a loan player who will never be preffered to players which club owns permanently it is a great experience and he did his fair shair of work for them, he had 1+5 is not totally bad playing way out of position mostly as a RM

Thing is, Pereira is a 22 years old with obvious potential. A player like Jorginho, for example, at same age was playing for a club named Sambonifacese.

Those midfielders you need to develop them. Not all players need to be a generational talents to be relevant.

He dares to try things which i like and makes the brave pass if he can see one. But sometimes i find him just forcing the play abit too much which is abit contradictory to what i said in the first place i know

Hard to believe that Jose actually criticized him for going on loan last year because he supposedly would have gotten playing time here. What is the kid supposed to do to get minutes? He played well in one game, then is dropped/scapegoated at halftime of the next game and his only appearance in the squad over the past month is as a late substitute. Why exactly should he trust Mourinho when he clearly favors less skilled/poorer performing players than him? We're likely going to lose him in the summer and I'm sure he'll be at another top club eventually and everyone will be wondering why we let him go.

Seems Mourinho actually rates McTominay over Pereira! I feel for the kid. If I was him i'd be angling for a move if Mourinho doesn't get the sack by the end of the seaosn

The fact that Jose had the gall to criticize him for going on loan last year, and then proceeds to still not even put him in the squad despite performing better than multiple players ahead of him just shows Pereira that he's better off leaving if Jose stays. Why should he have any faith that he's gonna succeed here when he can't even get on the bench for the league cup?

I tried to be reasonable about Mourinho dropping him, despite him doing well and at worst having 1 poor game when the entire team was poor.

But it seems I was being more reasonable than Mourinho is. He built him up, changed his position and then... dropped him as soon as he did 1 thing wrong and he doesnt get a look in now.

He should leave. He won't play under Mourinho. A few sporadic sub appearances aren't enough. He just made his international debut for Brazil. He needs to be playing. Not even making the subs bench for a League Cup game ?

Mourinho likes to have scapegoats to protect both himself and the couple of players that he loves.

He wasn't close to being the worst player against Brighton.

He did well going out on loan. Don't know why Jose is so much against loaning some of them. KDB also said he regretted letting Jose convince him to not go out on loan because Jose said all the right things then rarely used him. In hindsight also think he could have considered letting Martial go on loan back when his agent offered it as a solution to him being out of favour. It's not worth slowing down their development so you can have an injury option. Pereira would have played even less last year when he wasn't established

Herrera, who has been out for a while, getting picked ahead of him was a total joke. Terrible management, i.e. if he wasn't injured.

There was nothing wrong to start Herrera and give him minutes because he is a big squad player and we're going to need him for the season. However, to not have Peirera involved at all is criminal (unless he's going to start him on the weekend?!). Should have started in place of Lingard imo. We would have controlled that midfield and had some decent service into the front line.

Any chance for starting 11 for this lad tomorrow? Our best player during summer tour and probably most creative midfielder bar Pogba in the squad. Why the heck Jose doesn't rate him enough? And why is he ahead of McTominay in picking order?

I'm gonna say Mourinho can't be arsed keeping the charade up with him and he'll be going on loan/sold in perhaps January but definitely summer.

Has he been punished for the part he took in the video? I can't fault him if he wants to leave if this carries on. He hasn't been given a fair chance and now we are out of a cup competition, he isn't going to play much at all

So Jose bigged up this lad, put an arm around his shoulder, made him fall in love, only to then break his heart. Arrggh

Its a mystery, can't even get a game vs Derby in the league cup
All those who said he was silly to go on loan last season.....
I'm not even convinced Fred is much better

Jose is not interested in playing football - I doubt the ball will even touch the ground today.

Hopefully Pereira just keeps training well etc till his next opportunity.

Only under Mourinho will such a thing occur. A talented player dropped for a less talented one just because the less talented one is taller than 6 ft and is willing to run around like a headless chicken.
