Managers will always have their favorites and will show more tolerance for some than others.

Ah that, yeah that's common. I thought I was missing something else which Pogue was trying to get at.

Judging by pre-season and the Leicester game, Pereira should be ahead of Fred, Matic, McTominay and Fellaini. There could also be a debate to be had even ahead of Pogba. Unless he's injured, obviously.

I would agree if we're talking about the same position. But Mourinho seems to have pegged him as a DM for some reason so it looks like he's currently only competing with Matic and/or Ander for the DM spot behind 2 cms.

Personally I'd have him over Fred on the right but then again I didnt okay spending 50 million on him, or Mata on the right wing. I'd give him a run of games in either of those positions and see if hes doing enough to stay in the team.

Matic is quite obviously indispensable for Mourinho so I think he should be given the role Fred is currently occupying... Or at the very least be considered there. Plays with a little less dynamism/explosiveness across the pitch but far more control and composure. Better eye for a pass too.

Pereira has been praised for his form over the last Month even from Jose. He was called up for Brazil. Not even in the squad is strange.

It's not that strange though is it if you already have a full squad without injuries, not to mention that Mourinho invented an award just to give some praise for McTominay and himself.

Very strange but neither were Bailly and Martial.

So what happened to the lad? He was our best player during preseason and always plays with his heart on his sleeve and for the badge which would seemingly be Mourinho approved attributes.

He had a good game against Leicester, solid enough to get a Brazil call up, then a poor performance along with the rest of the team against Brighton and ever since he's been left out of the squad 2 matchdays in a row in favor of an inferior player, McTominay, on the bench...

I'm sure that's gonna do wonders for his confidence

The lad probably should've gone on loan again if this was gonna be how he'd get treated

So every player who's not selected for the squad should go on loan as they're being treated badly? That'd be a great way to manage a team.... Some precious fans we've got who over rate certain players and think they're badly treated when they're left out of the squad.

You can keep your assumptions to yourself thanks

Andreas made his first team debut in 2015,he went out on loan for his developement when it became clear he wouldn't get playing time at United. Jose was reportedly annoyed over his decision to go to Valencia last year so you'd think that he would've gotten some assurances in regards to playing time this year. I don't know how expecting, at the very least, a spot on the bench at his age is considered 'precious' or too much given the lack of quality options there especially coming off poor games from Matic and Herrera

He should be starting ahead of Pogba. Fred is at leat trying to do something.

We have a new flavor of the month it seems.

The lad was quality vs Leicester. His movement off the ball. Positioning to always be available, which wouldn't be visible on tele, was top class. His choice of pass and ball retention was superb. I wasn't at the Brighton game but for sure he looked no worse on television than anyone else, in fact he looked the better of the three midfielders.

The Spurs game, granted Matics first game of the season, he was awful. Slowed everything down. Lost runners. Too slow. A really poor performance from Matic.

2nd game out of the team?
I thought he looked good so far, what's Mourinho seeing that i'm not?

Odd enough,i have no problem with Fellaini in this game.

The thing is, i would much rather watch a trio of Perreira, Herrera and Fred than the three playing today.

We need speed, we need audacity and we need movement in the midfield.

Not really a surprise given we're talking about Mourinho here. Many said he'd be dropped when players come back from injury, whether he played well or not. It's why many squad players seem to lose hope with Mourinho. He has his favourites and sticks with them even if they're shite while the others battle it out for very few places.

100% true

He was doomed the moment he was earmarked for the number 6 position.

This. He just isn’t a 6. We all know Mourinho will play Herrera there when Matic isn’t available, especially in away games. If JM saw him as a 6 then he’d be a sub, because he’s far more versatile, which is what you need on the bench.

Not surprising. Always felt forced his use during pre season and he’s too flair for a role in Jose’s midfield especially in a deeper lying role.

Weren't you boycotting the club? Why do you care if Perriera starts or not then?

Ah yeah, we all know he doesn't like flair midfield players, so much so that he broke the world record fee for a flair midfielder. That player is playing right now as well. Feck me you are clueless.

He looks more comfortable as a number 6 than he does playing on the wings. He can play 8 as well but we have many options.

Firstly I was talking about the deeper-lying midfield roles, he prefers guys like Matic/Makelele/Cambiasso.. someone with more defensive grit in addition to good technical ability, not a criticism - more just a fact about his type of CDM.

Secondly, no one says he doesn't want flair at all in his midfield, just not the CDM.

Why did you quote my post if your reply doesn't answer my question?

Another players confidence ruined. I like how we big players up when it’s all going well but as soon as they get the boot, we don’t want to defend them. I’m going to start calling this the Luke Shaw syndrome.

You have no idea what his confidence is like atm. You’re talking nonsense. The team selection was correct today, if you’re gonna moan, at least do it when we lose.

1) No you weren't talking about deeper lying midfield roles. You said all midfield roles and especially deeper roles.

2) You ignored Motta and Alonso for no reason whatsoever. I'm guessing you ignored it because it doesn't fit your point.

Tbh I’m guessing it’s your confidence that’s struggling, and you’re projecting it onto Andreas. But I’m not entirely sure. Unlike you.

I agree with you with regards to Luke Shaw, talented player in a position we're crying out for some creativity in. Treated very badly thus far at United.

Pereira.. I'm not so sure on. Clearly a talented footballer, but he's one of those that doesn't excel at any position yet. He's not a DM, he's not really a great AM, he's not a winger. But he is a good footballer, so it's a tough one, but we have a lot of options in midfield now with Pogba / Matic / Fred / Herrera and seemingly Fellaini too. He'll most likely get games in the league and FA cups at the moment, and if he excells in any of those he'll push towards the starting first team. Right now, he's just not showing enough.

Its not very dramatic is it? He missed out against a top 4 team and Burnley. Looking at those teams before the season, you wouldn't have put Andreas in the starting eleven. He'll play when it makes sense.

Not all players will make the team. Pereira will be used in Cup games or if Pogba/Matic is injured. Thats how it works in top teams.

I think it's interesting that McTominay was Jose personal player of the year last season, yet we go and sign Fred and McTominay has barely kicked a ball this season.

In the one game Andreas played this season I thought he looked much more accomplished than any of McTominay's performances last season.
