Andre Onana made another mistake. Ohnono.

It's been clear from day one, he cannot be trusted fully. A defense playing in front of an eccentric goalkeeper will never be at ease.

He's had a better start to this season than the last , but my word wtf was he doing for the 2nd goal v forest I'm no G Keeper but move a few yards forward and he saves it comfy , I thought it was defelected at first. 3rd goal the bloody lot of them at back.

Onana he pisses about to much before he passes it at times. He's here to stay I don't like him as a keeper never have .

I’m not going to re-write history and say he’s been crap because he’s clearly been one of our best players this season. Arguably the best keeper in the league so far this season.

However, we’ve all known he always has a random brain fart which can occur at any time. Unfortunately, I think he just doesn’t have the ability to remain fully focused.

One thing I’ve noticed since he’s actually arrived is his tendency to “cheat” when setting himself. He often goes early to save a shot in anticipation of where he thinks it’s going. This is always dangerous for a keeper to do as you will eventually get caught out. He’s never had the best of springs when pushing off his feet to make a save. I think that’s why he tries to go early. Yesterday he got it wrong again.

One error and everyone comes out of their hole. You lot are ridiculously pathetic to jump on a player as soon as he makes ONE mistake and are the reason we're such a toxic fanbase. He's been top 3 best players this year. Give him a break ffs.
It's that magnificent thing where people just love trying to prove themselves "right" on the internet. No matter how well he does, the opinion that some have formed of him not being good enough will never change.

Not his biggest fan and that was a horrible performance vs NF but he has gotten better of late so will wait to see how he finishes the season before I’m too bothered. Keeper is a mentally tough job. He’ll either come good or we’ll replace him. More worried about our set piece defense. They look lost.

His reaction to this game will be huge. I think if he bounces back and has a great season, as he was, I'm happy with him. But I saw enough last season that he's on thin ice with that kind of performance.

Yes he's been a standout this season, but we're not even halfway through it yet. His record overall is suspect, let's see what kind of form he continues on with

We need to be able to keep emotion out of this, he was purchased at the start of last season on the back of being one of the best keepers statistically available, he had a difficult time getting up to speed (as does bassically every signing we make), but this season he has been one of the best keepers in the league, we cant fully detract from that because of one poor game.

What annoys me about a goalkeeper, even when I'm coaching a team, is not necessarily when they make a mistake (although that is annoying!) but if their head goes for the rest of the game afterwards.

Onana is a bit like that. After he made the mistake for the Gibbs White goal, his head was gone for the rest of the game. It was almost as if he was still shell-shocked and didn't even move for Woods' header. Then he passed the ball straight to (I think) Gibbs White and nearly conceded a 4th.

The likes of Schmeichel could drop a clanger but he'd bite the head off his defenders for allowing the shot in. Maybe that was his coping mechanism for getting over the mistake, but he wouldn't let the mistake ruin the rest of his performance.

There wasn’t a deflection, even the commemtators thought there was but replays show there wasn’t.
I can‘t conclusively see it either. What I can see is a sudden change in direction of the ball right when it goes past the foot of a player.

Anyways you can see Onana going to ground where the ball is going, and then you see it veering to the right.

Not a situation to throw Onana under the bus for.

If it's just you that finds it funny then it must be everyone else's fault I suppose.
Of course it is.

Anyway I have literally tens of green smilies in response to my posts.

That said you miserable buggers don’t have to respond to my posts. You could scroll past them and call me a Cnut in your head. Or put me on ignore even. You don’t have to like me, it takes all sorts and we wouldn’t want the forum to become an echo chamber would we?

You're missing the point of a forum for discussion though. You need to read the room to have any hope of being welcome in said room.

That said, I don't want to be in most rooms, and don't give a toss if I'm not welcome in rooms that I'd rather not be in.

I don't dislike the guy, and I think he is or at the very least could be good enough as a starter in a top team, but yesterday's howler was just unbelievable, if you were just looking at him and not the ball you would have sworn it was a deflection, only it wasn't. Bizarre mistake.

Yesterday was a howler, one of the worst I've ever seen. But I feel we have much bigger problems before we address Onana.

I see him as very similar towards De Gea at the end, over the course of a season, I feel Onana will be neutral in terms points he will save or cost us.

Other positions such as forwards, midfield and wingback (minus Amad) will all cost us points.

Onana would be a decent keeper in a settled team. That's why he looked good at Ajax and Inter Milan.

He's joined a club in disarray though and he's clearly not cut out for it.

The way it was heading towards his leg then suddenly swerved to his left at was weird, it was like it hit a bump in the turf or something.

Exactly.

There’s so many poor takes on here, I used to engage and argue when I disagreed with a post but I got myself into trouble so I decided to take a step back, take a lighter outlook and mock the hysterical knee jerking instead.

I also now stop engaging if I get negative vibes from people, which sadly at this point includes yourself and Sol. I’ll just refrain from engaging with your posts because often it seems that my replies aren’t welcome. I’ve only replied here because you addressed me and I’m not rude!!

We need to get rid of at least Rashford, Shaw, Maguire, Lindelof, Casemiro and Eriksen first and then think about replacing arguably our best player this season so far.

He has been much better this season, but the irony is that we bought this keeper because we needed one who was good with the ball at his feet, and in reality he actually turns the ball over so often when playing passes through the air.

It's pretty clear he isn't an elite keeper. He is capable of great saves and great passes, but also more than capable of a howler. It looks likely that an upgrade will be needed in the next couple of years, but I don't think it's as high priority as other areas in the squad.

He's been far more than decent this season. And good goalkeepers concede bad goals as well.

Clear to see it suddenly changed direction.

He still had a poor game, but so did the rest of his defence.

I really think Diogo Costa was the way to go when we signed Onana. It's fine being good with your feet but you need to be a decent goalkeeper too. Onanas positioning is awful at times. His feet are planted to the ground when we concede a lot of the time.
The same Costa who made goalkeeping errors when we played his team this season?

He's been arguably our best player this season along with Mazraoui and he's been great in a team full of disarray and adapting to a new system, really.

One mistake doesn't reset him for me, but it's enough to be wary, considering his past failures. Clear signs of overall bettering imo.

I wouldn't even call that a mistake on his part. You can see the setup of the body of MGW, he's clearly shooting it to Onana's right. It's only because of his poor shot that the ball goes the other way and more centrally of the goal.

Nah you can dress it up any way you like Onana should be saving that 10 times out of 10.

Still think he's been alright this season.

Why do some fans need to slag players off? Don’t get it, Onana has been very good this season. All keepers make mistakes once in a while.

He's improved this season but he is too unreliable, needs to be replaced in the summer.
Why does one mistake mean that he has to be replaced? He's one of the last players who should be moved on. He's been better than any of the keepers who are playing for sides that are so-called title challengers.
