André Onana | signed for United | On a flight to NYC

Hes definitely the right profile but yeah spend the extra on Costa. Onana seems crazy with the ball at his feet there is no way he will get away with it in the PL.
He’ll definitely get caught out, as does Ederson, Allison, or even ball playing CB’s. But as long as it’s only once or twice a year, then the positives he would bring to our play on a weekly basis will far outweigh the occasional embarrassment.

His mediocre shot stopping will see us concede goals next season that De Gea would save, hopefully with his distribution and a new striker we'll just outscore teams.

Ten Hag is a bit obsessed with Ajax isn't he. De Jong, Antony, Timber, Martinez, now Onana..
He is bit obsessed with anything linked with Dutch football, you just have to look at the back up for onana being another player playing in the Dutch league

This is done. We’ll mess about a bit. Play hard to get. Then pay what it takes.

Best is to detach a bit. Fact is till the Mount deal is rounded up all you'll get is posturing. United usually do deals one at a time.

If we could get this wrapped up before the tour that would be great.

Otherwise we'll be doing pre-season with either one of our wantaways Henderson or Heaton in goal.

He is a donkey with the ball at his feet.

But one thing is clear.

Martinez is a winner. = 2 times FA cup winner with Arsenal. 1 time Copa America winner and 1 time world champion.

United might end up playing penalty in knock out round in champion league or in FA cup. Then Martinez playing mind games and do everything to win.

But it will be really funny if Martinez end up at United after Qatar buying. After his world cup gesture in the final or world cup.

Martinez is still at his peak. Like hiring Mourinho at his peak. Not as his downhill era. It's about the timing and fate. Buy someone with a good fate. Buying winners/Winner mentality and character. It's one of the factor i am looking after. Theirs winning mentality.

I'll trust EtH on this. But my instincts tell me Onana is going to be an accident waiting to happen.
If a few accidents here and there are the price to play for our goalkeeper dribbling past and megging lads on the half way line than that's a price I'm willing to pay.

So are most keepers though these days, the way they're asked to play. It's not like it wouldn't be the same if we got Costa, Martinez or Pickford. They all have flaws to their game that would get exposed at the highest level. Onana probably has the most upside though in his distrubution.

And its not like our current goalkeeper is immune to accidents. Or any keeper at all. Alisson makes mistakes too. Even prime Neuer made mistakes.

If they can't afford Onana or Costa and they're going to get one of those Dutch GK's instead, I'd much rather just renew De Gea and try again next summer when the Glazers are hopefully gone from power

Exactly, maybe that's why the club want to continue talks with De Gea after his honeymoon...?

My instinct also tells me we will create a lot more opportunities, score more goals, pin opponents back more, be able to play a higher line, be able to push full backs on further when playing out from the back. All of which I’ll happily take for a few mistakes which we already make with our current keeper.

And lets not forget Wout. And even Eriksen.
@UnofficialDevil

to be fair, the players you mentioned were key to his success. De jong was brilliant for Barca last season and a key to Ajax reaching the cl semi. We saw how good Onana was under eth and proved it again at inter. Martinez has arguably been the player of the season for us.

there’s a reason eth is linked, and likes, these players. Timber too, which is why arsenal want him.

throwing eriksson in there is a bit of a moot point given he played there 10-13 years ago though.

I’m sure eth will sign players not Dutch or playing in the wee divisie, but if he’s comfortable doing that for now and it brings the success we need, don’t see much of an issue with that

With Onana at OT, Weghorst would score at least 20 goals in the PL, such is the mastery of his footwork.

I really don't like the idea of renewing De Gea.

We need to move on, its clear Ten Hag can't play his proposed style with Dave between the sticks. Would rather we take a punt on a budget keeper who's decent on the ball than compromise yet another season with De Gea being glued to his line and hoofing it straight back to the opposition.

Pep was quick to ditch Joe Hart and settle with Bravo as a stop gap until he got his man in Ederson.

And that in itself is a massive red flag not to re-sign him
No it wouldn't. We don't have money to spend, he'd be a free agent and the terms offered are reportedly lower than the one he was offered in the first place.

He's also completely unsuited to the style of football our manager wants to play and is poor at every aspect of goalkeeping other than shot-stopping (where he is now only above average).

How the hell would some random Portuguese journalist know what Manchester United's directors are considering doing?

If something concrete has happened at Inter, sure, I can believe he might have a source telling him about a development.

But unless he's a mindreader at 1700 miles, he's obviously pulling this out of thin air.

I also hate the fact that United get criticism for this and get things like called "Considering FC" as though it's our fault that journalists make up stuff about us.

It's fairly simple, agents and clubs meet in particular places and that's where some papers get their info. These places are typicall Monaco, Milan, London and Paris because that's where sport agents hang out even when they are not from there. The main place being Monaco.

I know all that. But none of it applies in this case. The story doesn't pass the smell test.

Get this deal sorted and stop looking at underwhelming plan B's like the Feyenoord guy
