Prove what mate? that he's not error prone? Ajax supporters who are fans of Onana will tell you he's got a mistake in him

And the drug ban? he took a banned substance one that apparently tries to mask other potential substances and was banned for 9 months

Explain what I have got wrong here? I dont need to prove shit

It's all one big mistake and the guy is a top keeper right? is that your take?

ALL keepers make mistakes.

He took a substance of which the regulatory bodies and those in charge agreed was a mistake but had to uphold the ban but they shortened it.

You don't like him fine, but own it and move on instead of regurgitating crap.

Haven't seen him play but if he is comfortable with the ball at his feet and is a decent stop stopper and has an gung ho attitude, he is exactly what we need at the back. Need to play out from the back and this makes him better than De Gea. If pep says he is good, then he is.
Think he is what we need and one of the best at distribution and playing out from the back. However pep thought Fred was good and was interested in Maguire and Sanchez. A player can be better under certain managers and depending on how the team plays. I do think he’ll be an upgrade on DDG though.

Wildly unpopular suggestion to entertain - would Maguire be a better defender with Onana behind him? I think he's more exposed when there's a big gap between him and the keeper, especially when you've got runners from behind where Maguire's pace is severely exposed. Not trying to absolve Maguire of anything, but having De Gea glued to his line certainly doesn't help him hide his weaknesses.
Definitely helps. He isn't as bad as everyone is thinking .He can be a good backup to us but the fact that he cost us 80m, 200k wage and is our captain make things worse.

Better to move on.

So i'll put to the side his drug case
And also forget his numerous collisions with managers/colleagues leaving him banished from squads
I'll look past the errors because all keepers make errors
Anything else I should not bring up to have a fair opinion on the player according to you?

I guess you have already mentioned that you are not sure of him playing well at United, cannot get past the previous issues he had. I understand you may not be in favor of him being signed and have made your points. Just wondering what more is left to say that you haven't already said? Other than keep reiterating the same debates. Let it be. If he signs, we need to support the manager and the player.

We all know he most probably will take time and will make mistakes. Just like De Gea when even Fergie had to bench him to bring out his best form. So just enjoy the ride. We might have a new GK which will allow us to be more better in our game. It's exciting. It's one area we have left unattended for i guess 5 seasons when other teams already have ball playing goal keepers who help start attacks and help keep possession.

If we only have 100M to spend this summer and we buy Onana 55M, and potentially Mount 55M, it means that we will have nothing for a new striker, nothing for a backup CB, and will rely on Rashford as number 9, Garnacho to develop, Antony and Sancho to improve.... Many ifs.

I am depressed.

Im 100% willing to have my opinion and let it drop but I'm getting tagged every 2 seconds from this thread as though I'm the crazy one who should have no concerns about this player who must be one of the most controversial keepers playing in Europe

If we sign him id love to be proven wrong, he does come across as one of those players that could easily become a fan favourite but some people are acting like there should be absolutely no doubt on Onana what so ever which for me is insane

We are signing a striker. Be happy.

Hope you're right.

I think with how it goes we won't be title challengers next year, but we need few more signings to stay in top 4 and don't be too ridiculous in the CL.

GK, midfielder and a striker are a must.

If we can improve our 3rd CB choice and gamble on Garnacho to improve more then we could be ok.

Nevertheless, I won't sell Fred AND McTominay. For me if a midfielder arrives, it should be only one.

Well the manager point is fair to look past as he worked with ten hag for many years and had a very good relationship with him.

His drug case is dealt with, he did his time. Did you count it against Rio after his ban?

All keepers make errors. Over a season, statistically, he had an excellent season and proved himself to be back to his best this season. He was an elite talent at Ajax, but young and had some mistakes. Went through a lull with the drug case, motivation, maybe he wanted a new challenge, whatever the case. It's not uncommon for it to happen now and then.

I think it will be very difficult to be title challengers without Kane or Osimhen. Neither of whom will be signing. I'm fairly confident that a keeper (Onana I assume), Mount and a striker (most likely Højlund) will be arriving at a minimum. I feel that a deputy for Casemiro is very important but won't happen unless Fred or McTominay is sold. I'd rather sell the latter. Same goes for a backup centre back. Only going to happen if Maguire is moved on.

This is happening now methinks

It would need to move quickly if De Gea leaves this weekend you'd think, because otherwise we're going in to pre-season with wantaways Henderson and Heaton

Still have a suspicion De Gea stays and United get a competitive #2, though I hope I am wrong

Seems unlikely they'd offer De Gea even worse terms and still see him as assumed #1.

Think we agree on the needs, but it would be the money available that would be the issue.

If we have only 100M to spend and we are in for Onana and Mount then we count on the sales to raise funds for a striker, and knowing that we are poor at selling players, we will not get the balance needed. If we are lucky we can sell Maguire and Fred for around 40/50M, but nothing more (adding then an issue in the CB positions, unless Shaw will also cover for the 4th CB spot and Dalot covers for the 3rd LB spot).

Nevertheless, we are not there yet.

Also knowing that we have no keeper meaning necessity and urgencies, then Inter can play their game and wait until we provide them more.

Well that's 100% spot on fair enough

What's getting me is certain posters coming in here acting like there's absolutely nothing to be concerned about and any of his past career is all 100% legit with no red flags what so ever

I find it ridiculous that there's still uncertainty around De Gea with a day left on his contract

If it were any other club I'd say they've pulled a United. But given that it is United, it all feels quite typical.

We have been contacting them for 2 weeks now
Got no money, but want him to know we're interested

We probably need to wrap this up before De Gea leaves and Inter slap another £20m on top because they know we don't have a keeper.

Nah, Diego Costa is hanging around in a slow goalkeeper market, Inter know we will pivot if they try some dumb shit like that. Especially when they could stand to restructure their Lukaku debt to us at the same time. We have a fairly decent negotiating relationship with Inter so I can't see them or us wanting to spoil that.

You're looking at it in the wrong way really, to put it simply, if we have 100 mill to spend this summer, and we spend 55 on Mount and 50 on Onana the critical point is how much of that money is going to be upfront and how much in installments.

Let's say for equals sake we also spend 50 on a Striker, but for each of these transfer's we only spend 20 mill on each upfront and spread the rest over the next couple of years, well technically we've only spent 60 mill this year then, which is under our 100 limit.

There's no way with Mount and Onana we'll be putting all of the money upfront, especially not with Mount i'd imagine. So don't worry, there's money for a forward, without sales I cannot imagine it will be a forward in the 100+mill bracket but somewhere between 50-60 instead.

I suspect we'll sign our midfielder, gk and then a forward, and then any buys we might want to make after that will have to depend on sales. Which, all things considered with this club at the moment, it could be way worse.

I could be wrong and I might be giving the club far too much credit here, but I think we know how imperative it is that we sign a striker. I don't see us simply going with what we've got and making Garnacho an undisputed, nailed on starter. I'm not even convinced that £100m is our budget.

Hopefully we can get a few out and improve our depth at DM and a find a natural left footed centre back to deputise for Martinez. I'd also like us to sign a first choice right back but that won't be happening this summer.

Great! So we should be ready to enter the preparing our bid stage in the coming week.

Can someone who has watched him comment on his handling, ability in the box v/s crosses/corners? I know he is quite good with his feet but unsure on his overall quality.

People talk of Frenkie De Jong but in modern football it's players even deeper who find time on the ball to dictate play. Your goalkeeper and center backs ability to "make play" is so crucial if you want to play on the front foot. You could have prime Xavi in midfield but if your goalkeeper and center backs can't get the ball to him in favourable positions against high pressing opposition he'll effectively be useless. This is why I'm excited about this signing, teams will no longer set up to press so high forcing us to launch balls like we do. Even City were being cautious against Onana I'm the UCL final.

Its supposedly £100 million net (£150 million depending on who you believe) not total, there’s no saying we’re paying £55 million for Onana then £55 million for Mount in one lump payment each and that’s apparently what we’re negotiating with Chelsea over is the structure of the transfer payments.

We’re also likely to move De Gea, Henderson, Williams, Maguire, Bailly, Telles, one of McFred, VDB and Elanga added to Jones and Tuanzebe already which could bring in around £100 million and save £1 million a week in wages so it’s not all doom and gloom.

Yes proof of these collisions.

Kicking off with teammates. This is all within the last season by the way after his ban.

I've given you a load of reasons for me not to want this player I find it so bizarre how you're acting like there aren't any red flags.
