I am all for onana, but with this guy and mount it does ten hag no favours as being seen a little one dimensional with his transfer targets having very similar links with dutch football in one way or another

Here we go again.

Why does that matter if it works out? Would you prefer if he bought someone from Lech Poznan who no one has ever heard of before?

Ah yes, Mason Mount the household name of Dutch football.

DiMarzio is pretty reliable. Do you want to hear from Massimo Di Culo?
Di Marzio and Kajumba are both decent sources. I think this will escalate after tomorrow (being De Gea’s last day)
Di Marzio is fairly reliable in Italy.

Outside of that he's a chancer.

DiMarzio is quite hit and miss. Also, a bunch of Tier 2/3 Italian journos reporting on what United have decided to do does not fill me with confidence. Won't even comment on The Daily Fail being any sort of credible.

So, say we sign Onana, and we lose De Gea. Then Onana goes away for a month in January/February 2024 to play in the African Cup of Nations (assuming Cameroon beat Burundi in September).
Are we going to play Heaton for a month?

That's the knockout stages of the league cup, the 3rd round proper of the FA Cup and potentially first leg of the CL knockouts, plus at least 4 league games.

EDIT: Nevermind! He's retired from international duty! phew

He retired from the national team. But he is young so you never know.

Not sure if it's a true retirement or a F U to the current management team.

Yeah, I edited that in after posting once I realized.
Would be just our luck to seeing him reconcile with the national team and re-join for the tournament though.

Had forgotten about all the drama at the World Cup!
I guess we're hoping Song stays in charge until we have another backup GK then. :D

This is good news. It will be an important signing in the new era and our rebuild.

I recall people talking about him years ago but I can't remember whether I rated him or not... I'd still prefer Martinez for his attitude (he pisses off the opposition) and PL experience. Onana or Costa? For me, it's probably a toss-up. Both inspire more confidence than DDG but I do worry about adapting to the PL

? Send me a reliable source saying this is done?
No one is saying it’s done “paper chat” implies gossip column bollocks. Which it’s not. Reliable people have reported on it, I’d hazard a guess that our interest is concrete and not something relegated to mere gossip columns

Will be one of my first bits of criticism towards the manger if this one goes through. His judgement on players will be questioned after Antony last summer and this absolute shit show of a keeper Onana.

Costa is by far the better keeper and for what another 10m it should be an absolute no brainer

Rubbish, Onana is top class.

Have you seen this guy play regularly?

Albeit I’ve only seen him about 10 times, but Costa strikes me of having a really nervous mentality. How would he handle the step up?

With Onana you know he doesn’t lack confidence.

Ability wise I don’t see much between them.

I think he's obviously very good with the ball at times, but he skirts that fine line between confidence and insanity. I think he will help play out from the back but I expect there will be some massive blunders unless he tones it down a bit. I don't think he's amazing in the air or shot stopping either. From what I've seen he's a bit 'flappy' when coming for crosses etc.

Have you seen this guy play regularly?

Yeah, I wont claim to have watched Ajax or Inter every week but I've seen more than enough to form an opinion

He was free not long ago (after a drug ban I might add) and there wasn't a queue of clubs trying to sign him

He can pass the ball but he's massively prone to errors and his shot stopping is questionable at best.

So why not leave this to someone who has watched him regularly ? I am also assuming you wouldn't have watched Costa week in week out but still claims he is far better than Onana ?

I agree that there’s something in the story. But to me, a post saying…

This is good news. It will be an important signing in the new era and our rebuild.

…implies to be that he thinks it’s done, when it’s in response to a story that we’ve “agreed to pay what’s required” which was 100% paper chat.

He played in the Dutch league where ten hag became a fan of him
Yeah and I’m sure Mount’s post-Eridivisie/Chanpions-league-winning/full-England-international exploits have had no bearing; it was that one shining season in Holland that has convinced ETH…

Yeah? Ajax was glad to see the back of him he's got more mistakes in him than I don't know what.
Ajax was glad to see him leave because he was a snake that phoned it in when he had to play due to injuries of the 3 other goalkeepers, conceding 10 goals in 6 matches vs 9 goals in the other 28 matches.
But before the doping situation he was very much loved.

But his mental issues are going to be a problem. He had it at Ajax and with 2 different Cameroon NT managers.

I've seen lots of Ajax fans comment on Onana and how bad he was for periods there. Like I said earlier they was glad to see the back of him. I haven't even played the drug scandal card either or the fact that he's a complete moron in the dressing room.

Will be an awful signing a few passes in this years CL final isn't convincing me otherwise
