I reckon he will transform our team, passing out from the back will change our entire attack.

Two things need to happen, DDG and Maguire out. Onana and Timber or Kim Min-Jae in.

Timber goes to Arsenal and Min-Jae to Bayern after he returns from military service

Not convinced of Onana as a whole package and would rather Costa although I admittedly don't know much about him.

That said Onana should be an upgrade over De Gea so will take it as long as we also address our pitiful striker situation

Watching you tube videos of him, he may be a little too gung ho. Soe of the near misses he has had almost on the halfway line will result in a fair few stupid goals.

least he has the excuse of being on the half way line and not his goal line :wenger:

I don't think there is a goalkeeper in a top side today that doesn't have a highlight reel of awful "play out from the back / sweeper" conceded goals. So I really don't see that being a concern for me.

De Gea doesn't have the ability to fully adapt to ETHs gameplan and has increasingly thrown up some unbelievable howlers. I'm more than happy to give this bloke a chance

Is he really the guy for us? His GK numbers on fbref aren't exactly amazing. From the highlights, he also makes the save but the ball just bounced off him into really dangerous areas in the box. He doesn't seem to catch it cleanly or direct it away from danger.

It is quite funny that after one season of our David the manager has decided he really misses the lunatic who used to try and dribble half way up the pitch.
We'll be playing a 4-6-1 formation apparently so check his outfield stats.

The stats only reflect the team he's playing in. And Inter play in a deep defensive line and concede a low amount of crosses.

His stats in a higher defensive line paint a different picture and his distribution (which might be even the best in the major European leagues) is a lot more pronounced along with his ability to sweep.

The vid below touches on his fbref stats at Inter and compares those with his stats at Ajax. Two different approaches, with different statistical results.

Fbref numbers aren't really a good measure for a goalkeeper. John Harrison on twitter has shown it loads of times, and he has a great model but it's not public anymore sadly.

But he's class from the limited games I've seen both recently and when he was younger. He had a lull the last few years after the whole suspension thing, but not a huge deal IMO. Bigger positive is that he showed elite talent at a young age and has realized that potential and showed up in the biggest stage. Great with the ball at his feet, very strong dealing with crosses, ten hag knows him well and wants him despite him being his manager when he had the suspension.

Onana if he becomes good for us with his style of play, i don't mind.

Problem is I don't feel confident with him running out of the penalty area more often than Maguire dribbling the ball up the field to attack.

Fantastic news. Think I'm more excited about signing a new keeper than I am about bringing in a striker. Replacing De Gea is very long overdue

Look, give me the keeper that makes a few mistake being Uber aggressive and confident for once than the coward that never moves out of his net and seems petrified to make a mistake.

I’m really excited to see Onana for us and I think many are failing to grasp how much different many of our games will look because of him.

Can imagine the chants next season… Onana what’s your name, Onana what’s your name.

No idea about Kajumba but Wheeler is far from Decent more in BS territory .
Kajumba is pretty decent. Not same level as Sami Mokbel (who I think be the one to first break the Mount interest)..but decent nonetheless.

Pep started everything with replacing Hart, of course he bought 2 keepers in 2 years cause he could but it was the first move he made.

Should be another week of this before Chelsea come in and sign him up while we look at other options and eventually sign up DDG to another contract.

Cool.. it also kind of bugs me when they say it’s a hard task replacing a keeper when you generally normally get what you pay for. Unless your name is Kepa.
Yes. Getting a new keeper will be major, it can completely change the way we play and make it easier for ETH to implement his philosophy.

Agreed - a step change in fast movement from the back, being able to beat the press and not turning over possession everytime our keeper has the ball at his feet!

More than any other position this is critical to improving our build up play.

Finishing it off - well that’s for another thread!

I'd be good if an actual reliable journo confirms this.
Di Marzio and Kajumba are both decent sources. I think this will escalate after tomorrow (being De Gea’s last day)
