Great game. Unlike others, I like that he goes down holding his face and complaining. A bit diego Costa-ish but manages to get under opposition's skin by doing this repeatedly

Beautiful assist. He is well capable of doing this, so it wasn't really luck.

Has he always been that type of player for you? I've honestly only noticed it this season.

Well it's only this year he's been used in a deeper role to break-up the play so it's more obvious I think

He's definitely not suited to playing a holding role in big games. His defensive contributions are best when he's free to run around and harass further up the pitch. Neither him or Pogba are disciplined enough in a match like this to be the holding duo.

I don't know why and how but the cross reminds me of Cleverley's cross to RVP's goal against Spurs . Great cross.

It has to be a midfield three. A midfield two both players have to do their defensive work. Pogba isn't going to. Replace Carrick with a hardman who can distribute the ball, Ander can help him defensively when needed and Pogba can go forward to his hearts content.

His holding role is definitely okay as he showed in numerous games including the one against Liverpool, Pogba is diffrent story, he can be really atrocious without the ball, positioning wise he's totally off at times which makes herrera defend on his own, carrick got us more balanced, but pogba needs to do much better in that regard, he's lost pretty much in all big games this season, but I am sure that will get better, when we have bigger depth and another more defensive minded midfielder in the team next summer

Bit of a strange one, Ander.

Played both as a #10, #8 and #6 for Bilbao, was a bit snide even back then. Deployed as an #8 for LvG but didn't get enough chances due to not being robotic enough and daring to pass it forward every now and then.

Reckon he always had this type of play in him, but took someone like Jose to get it out of him.

I actually thought Pogba was quite good in possession today, but I agree with you his concentration defensively isn't the best and not consistent which is why I thought it was particularly hard on him and Herrera to be thrust into the roles they were to start the match. Herrera is okay in the holding role, but he's more effective when he's allowed to get about more.

Yep, I agree 100%.

In the first half when Pogba was AWOL he covered every inch of the pitch. He went toe-to-toe with Romeu all game and didn't flinch once. He was helping Valencia at RB and Rojo at LB.

He miss-placed a few passes but also played some great ones, including the cross for the goal. He also won the free kick for the goal with a brilliant piece of skill.

He's more than good enough alongside Pogba for 80% of our games, but when the opposition is having a real go at us having a 3rd man in there can be necessary to steady the ship. We'll need a Carrick replacement in the summer but we all knew that already.

The difference a manager can make. Such a great player, though I think we need to get him some proper backup so that we aren't running him to the ground every game.

Very unfair yellow early on hampered him a bit. He couldn't tackle after that. Still made himself felt though. Got fouled did Ibra's free kick and laid on the winner.

People keep going on about his distribution, he's not a playmaker, he never has been, and under Jose he's basically doing exactly what Kante, Bakayoko and Kessie do, wins it and plays it simple 90% of the time, which seems to have everyone here wanting them. He showed real fight and grit in there today and didn't give Romeu an inch, plus he got an assist for the winner, not bad at all.

Good performance again from him. Does what he's good at and does it well.

Makes the absolute best of what he's got, and you just have to love his effort and passion, fast becoming my favourite United player.

l'm sure he won't, but would be my idea of the next captain.
