It's so nice to see most people have now seen how great Ander is. Herrera-Pogba is a very good midfield, add a specialist DM and it will be top notch.

Can you believe there are still people want to "upgrade" on him in the summer? As if there are many midfielders out there with the all around ability and versatility of Herrera. Not to mention the insanity of trying to improve your squad by starting with one of your best performers who is at peak age, instead of one of the worst or older players.

The cherry on the cake is that they are not proposing some world class midfielder either, usually it's some kid who's just been having decent break out season like Kessie of Atalanta or something. Fans be crazy :wenger:

Rooney has 10.

Rooney plays in and around the box. Herrera has been playing mostly as DM for us. I know plenty of forwards with 10 assists, but not that many DMs.

Though Rooney's assist stat is not bad considering his minutes (1912' or sth). It's almost an assist every second full game. His assists are not a stick to beat him with. His lack of pace and first touch are though.

Rooney hardly plays. My point is stats arent all that. His last two assists have been great though.

Still massively underrated by opposition fans.

Suits me just fine. Last thing I want is some Castillan or Catalan tossers taking notice and trying to lure him back. He can fly under the radar for another 3-4 years as far as I'm concerned, just like Carrick did for much of his career/

Yup couldn't agree more.

He hardly plays now. He did play a lot earlier in the season. He's on 1912 minutes, which is over 21 full games.

As for Herrera, most of his assists are great, not just his last 2. They're rarely just simple passes. The one on the League Cup Final to win it, was a particularly sweet one.

Or even just have our attacking unit score more goals. When was the last time we were overrun in midfield or completely dominated in terms of ability and composure on the ball? Ander and Pogba have had good seasons, the issue is how freakishly potless our attack has been.

Pivotal player in Jose's side. I know it's a cliche but he always gives 100% and sets an example for our squad. LvG made such a huge blunder completely ignoring him for 2 seasons for virtually no reason whatsoever.

Agreed. I struggle to think of other midfielders with his qualities, which is why he stood out to me when I first saw him play. Such a unique player we're actually lucky to have him. Lately I haven't seen that talk of us needing to upgrade, long may that continue.

True, I think a specialist DM would be needed for example in the heavyweight games if we got back in the CL.

fair enough

If only LvG had more confidence in Herrera's ability, we would have surely been better off. Absolute beast for United. Glad to have him at United.

Crazy isnt it? And to think, he was in the team and linking well with Mata in that run of matches that cemented top 4 in LVGs first season.

Also, should be captain next season, but tbh, hes unofficially one anyway.

Yeah he was integral to that little run, probably more so than any other player, and somehow still got frozen out at the start of the next season.

It's just our fans to be fair. I have a couple of Liverpool supporters saying they think he is our most important player.
He doesn't need to be replaced as some of our fans will say- we just need more like him. If Herrera continues to develop his game - I think he could definitely move a bit backwards on the pitch - most of his passes and assists are relatively deep.

This proves that LVG was an idiot. At this period he reached his best formation with best tactics possible so I thought he would build on this formation in summer. Instead he decided to destroy everything , change the formation and tactics and start from scratch on a horrible base. Don't know why. He had everything he needed in front of him to build on and he decided to destroy everything by his hands.

The one player in the squad in which the manager knows what he is going to get, every match.

He has been brilliant and has had some struggles but he very rarely lets his side down.

He is an effort guy, not too flashy (but fully capable), but no doubt at the top of the team sheet.

I get the feeling he'd stay you know. maybe I'm just buying into the sound bytes but he seems like he loves the club and English football.

Edit - been my player of the season along with zlatan and Valencia

I don't doubt that he loves English football and the club personally, and he's not the kind of guy to bitch about the weather and all that other shit, but it's not always that simple.

He might have a wife that wants to be back home or kids that they want to send to a Spanish school. He might want to see his parents and childhood friends more often. Footballers are humans after all. If (for example) Barcelona come in and offer him good money and arguably better career prospects, then he has to weigh it all up and moving back to Spain might just win out.

So I just hope he keeps flying Ander the radar (see what I did there?) and doesn't attract interest from the Spanish giants as I wouldn't want him to have that decision to make.

I hear you. My favourite player. He's been up and down over the seasons but from the first match he played (the friendly) you could tell he had something our midfield badly needed. Glad to see him playing well and getting some recognition in a wider sense. These lads have to believe they are the best and accept nothing else if we want to get back to the top.

I do think this has been Jose's biggest achievement this season, along with the sidelining of Rooney.

Everyone could see that, given a lengthy run in the team, Herrera's intenstity, drive and quality would enhance a midfield that needed stability, partnerships and a high level of positional discpline.

He hopefully has that now with Pogba and AN other.

With a third component, a title tilt shouldn't be out of the question next season.

He's basque, I highly doubt he'd move to Catalan.

I think Herrera is at United as long as we want him. Seems to have a genuine love for the club and affection for English football and the culture. He's getting better too should be entering his prime soon. Really love to see him as skipper.

Typo.... Hazerrard

I forgot to say, he was absolutely magnificent the other night. That pass for Martial was absolutely majestic. Future captain material for sure.

Whispers about him being a doubt for the derby.. According to PhysioRoom.

Herrera has made 6 assists in the league which is 12th highest in the league. All the players above him are wingers/attacking mids/strikers except Fabregas.

Superb record and it's about time he is called "proper midfielder".

fair enough
The one at Anfield during the "emancipation of Mata". The one for Miki vs Spurs. The one for Young vs City. In fact, he is probably our most productive CM versus our rivals. I believe he got MotM in 2 games vs Arsenal so he probably bagged an assist. he has an accurate cross and a mean through ball. He just needs to calm down a bit sometimes. His long range passing is weak though
