Exactly. So many people get all uppity and bang on about 'The PC Brigade' or whoever when they make an offensive joke and get told off for it, completely missing the point that if the joke had actually been funny, they likely wouldn't have been criticized for it. Top Gear being one of the prime examples, as Spoony has already mentioned.
