Amad Diallo | Sunderland Loan Watch

We only beat Barca after subbing Weghorst off at half time, we were losing and he had a shocker. He played badly in the first leg too.
Workhorse is not exactly a world beater, but that's not quite how it was. He played badly first half in the away game as well (as the whole team did in both games), but stayed on and played maybe his best 45 minutes for United in the second half. In this period, we tended to play better in the second half in all our games, and the players that got subbed early always got the blame.

What an absolute beauty. He's doing really really good in the championship

Half of Red Cafe wrote Amad Diallo off after two pre-season games when Ten Hag was playing him as a centre forward. Ha.

Brilliant prospect, but big question marks around whether he's ready for United at this stage. Tends to drift in and out of games, and I'm not sure he's physically ready yet. Might benefit from another loan. But I trust Ten Hag's judgment.

If Sunderland go up, it would be best he goes back there. We're not selling Sancho and he's not dropping Antony. There's not enough room for him to get regular game time, especially if we're buying a striker, so would be the best for his development.

He was our lowest rated player according to whoscored and sofascore.

Pretty brutal stuff on display in this game. Amad and Patrick Roberts the only touch of class.

Stunning goal. He really does know how to score beauties. Really hope we see him feature at Utd next season.

Surely has to be the best loan out we’ve had in the last 20 years. In fact I can’t even remember the last fruitful one we’ve had? Andrea P but he ended up a bit meh. Surely it’s not Beckham?

Welbeck, Evans... Fernandez has just won Preston's Young Player of the Year as well. Or do you only consider their eventual performance for us?

He’s going to be a hell of a player. Already is, to be honest. I think he’s really benefited from Mowbray giving him a key role in the team and importantly, the freedom to do his thing. I don’t think he really got that at Rangers. Quite a brave thing for a manager to with a 19 yr old loanee, but it’s paying off for them both.

He’s already better than Antony, and the “physical readiness” argument is bullshit. We had Juan Mata playing games for years who was miles slower and weaker

"Desperately needed that"

Why? Has he not been doing very well, or something?

Considering Sunderland were a goal down I think the commentator was saying Sunderland desperately needed the goal, not Amad personally.

And miles better technically than most players in the league. He is not already better than Antony. Are people just forgetting he's playing in the second tier? What is with this hyperbole?

Boy would you be in for a surprise if he were to be our starting RW for the rest of the season. And physicality isn't just about pace or strength.

He's having a great season but lets calm down a little. Jack Clarke has 11 goals and 12 assists for Sunderland, is he better than Antony too?

James Garner

Whoscore does not credit press work. I think if you read his thread, you will find that the fans had a very different take on it.

The most extreme example of how Whoscored discredits press work, is Martin Ødegaard. He has been winning the ball back in the opposite half more than any player in the top leagues, and presses aggressively from front in full 90 minutes in every game. Still Whoscored labels his defensive contribution as "weak".

James Garner
I’m thinking more in terms of a successful loan being a player who came back to us and was able to establish himself as a first team squad player. I know Diallo hasn’t come back to us yet but it feels like he will do and could potentially be our best loan for many years.

How the Luton player escaped the second yellow I’ll never know. Ref bottled it big time. Good header for the second goal too

The Championship is so chaotic

His technical skills are fantastic, the best player on the pitch at holding onto possession, then the next guy will lump it back to the opposition keeper, who then sends it back to Sunderland.

I think he needs another loan next season, it would've been best he had this type of loan when he went to Rangers, next season he needs to be in a more technical league, see if he looks like one of the better players on the pitch then.

He will still be one of the most technically gifted on the pitch, his technique is world class. It's his physicality that has doubts.

True regards physical readiness, if he's not ready now he might never be, for instance Garnacho is 2 years younger than Amad! But Amad is going to need to do a -LOT- more to compensate for his lack of physicality and raw pace. Mata won world cups and champions leagues, but was one of the most intelligent players that maybe the world has ever seen, at least the premier league, and that still wasn't enough to fix our side.

He looks quality, but there's a massive difference between the Championship and doing it for Man Utd.

Should at least be give a chance in pre season to see how he does, before sending him on another loan. Could be one of those players that surprises everybody and adapts quicker than people might think.

Him on the right and Garnacho on the left would be exciting
They will continue to challenge the senior players. I can see Amad going for Brunos or Antonys position. And we will rotate a bit more with a stronger squad hopefully

Remember Taarabt looked like a world beater in the Championship then completely failed in the EPL.

He'd certainly benefit from another loan next season and I'm sceptical over whether he's ready, however we're absolutely desperate for attacking reinforcements, another left footer in the squad and some competition for Antony (and maybe Bruno).

For that reason I don't think we'll have much choice but to bring him back.
