Great to see him come on... BUT.. two things I saw that was disappointing.

1. when we had a throw in, instead of looking to receive the throw, he shied away from it which isn’t a great sign.

2. when he lost his chance, he went into whinge mode instead of instantly getting back into the game and consequently missed a chance to receive the ball again,

early days though,

As soon as he came on we couldn't get possession. Clearly a bad signing.

Anyone giving a critique on a 08:00 cameo where he hardly had a kick need to sort themselves out like

Better player ?

Is he?

Also we are 4 up. Better off trying to learn if Amad can be a contributing part of the squad this season or if it's too early. Its the perfect opportunity really.

We already know what we'll get out of Mata. It's not like he is going to break into the team.

I'm sure the manager knows these things and doesn't care whether you know or not, Mata needs minutes so he can contribute, we have a packed schedule.

Either decision would be fine I think but just frustrating that people think ever playing Mata is so insane, especially when it doesn't look like we can rely on dvdb to cover Bruno at the moment

@Mainoldo cheeky sub appearance on Sunday and I will accept your 5 great British spondoolies with all the love I can! :D

Haha. Your a funny guy. You noticed we was 3-0 up 68mins and he came on with 9 mins to go. Also remember I told you about the pecking order.... Rashford, Greenwood, James, Mata, Diallo. He didn’t skip the pecking order tonight did he.

We will see bro! ;) can see a cheeky sub appearance at the weekend if we’re cruising.

James is arguably better on the left. Yet James played on the right, and Amad, who has mostly been used on the right, played on the opposite side. Surprising.

Ole: Buys a RW.

Also Ole: Introduces him and plays him at LW.

:wenger:

On a serious note, thought he showed some good technique and skill to get around two Sociedad players at the end there. Hoping to see a bit more of him at RW. It honestly can't hurt us to test him there.

I think this shows Ole has a higher expectation of Amad. He trust the kid to be tested out in an unnatural position more than taking James out of his -- on his debut.

As I said higher up in the thread, James was absolutely roasting Monreal at that point. Running off him for fun. So leaving him on the right helped us get that fourth goal. Good decision.

Nice one

Good point. That never crossed my mind. Just too pre-occupied with our new acquisition.

Any chance he plays for the u23s tomorrow?
The U23's play on Monday.

I doubt he'll feature in that, as I imagine the plan will be for him to be a part of the first team squad v Newcastle on Sunday - but probably not feature, and maybe not even make the bench. And then definitely get some minutes, as a sub or starter, on the Thursday in the 2nd leg.

I guess, if he doesn't even make the bench v Newcastle, then he could get a 45 minute run out for the U23's ahead of the Sociedad game. But I doubt it. If he's going to be in and around the first team squad now, then those couple of U23 games may be deemed enough.

Shoretire, on the other hand, should definitely keep featuring for the U23's as he's clearly behind Amad in the pecking order - and in age and development. Although, hopefully, he'll also get some minutes in the second leg on Thursday.

One of the best cameos v Real Sociedad in the last 16 of the Europa league during a pandemic I have personally ever seen.
