Alvaro Morata | Real Madrid inform Juventus of their decision to salvage Morata's federative rights

He scores when it matters most. He's far from the finished article and definitely not worth the 60m RM is rumored to demand for him, but he's a solid player with potential to be great. Not sure how he's overrated in any way.

Overrated is very subjective, highly dependent on just how rated some have him. I think he's talented and love his intensity but he's not the most clinical player - never has been. I think that's why RM parted with him in the first place and have no doubt that they are merely looking to profit on the player rather than bringing him back

If nothing else, it shows just how little depth there is at forward in Spain atm

'Overrated' is often subjective, but not in this case. Majority of people rate him as somewhere between the 'mediocre' to 'project player with potential but very raw'. He's either underrated or rated just right. You are right though that there is a reason why RM parted with him, but at his age and the credentials that he does posses at the moment, it would be foolish to write him off IMO.

The lack of depth in Spain's forward line had nothing to do with him scoring in almost all of Juve's big games over the past two years and thrice in the Euros.

He basically scores every time people watch him play. Scored in both legs in the CL semis against Real, scored in the CL Final, was excellent against Bayern in the away leg and had a legitimate goal wrongly disallowed IIRC, and recently scored in the Coppa Italia Final. The anti-Cavani.

I like the way you explained it :)

Everyone knows Madrid are cnuts and they are trying to squeeze some money out of this deal, but why would the player accept to be whored around? Ridiculous.

And who the feck would want to pay 50 or 60M for a 10 goals per season striker. It better not be us...

Perfect signing for PSG. Swap between Morata and Cavani and they would be a force to be reckon.
That would be even more foolish than the Eto'o Zlatan swap. Why would PSG swap Cavani - a proven goalscorer at his peak at the moment with a project that can't even reach double digits in the league soon to be 24

You read my post wrong. I meant they sign Morata and use him in important games where Cavani's always a donkey, and vice-versa.

ah, that makes sense, actually. When I always watch Cavani in big games he's a donkey I concur.

Looks like he may have some temperament issues.. last night he would be been sent off twice if it was in the Premier League.

There we go, when he doesn't sign for us, we can use this as an excuse for not being gutted :(

Haven't followed this saga closely but is it unfeasible that Real have simply brought him back to use him? First-choice striker for Spain and Juve after all, he could play a significant role in their first-team squad.

Someone will pay Real a big fee for him and help fund their summer spending.

Hope no one goes for him.

Sucks for the player (though I'm sure his millions will be of some comfort), but no one should be dignifying that circus.

But knowing us we'll probably buy both him and James for 100million.

Was he really first choice for Juve this season? Thought he fell behind Zaza/Dyabala towards the end.

Again, he played 2400 minutes in Serie A, mostly on the wings. His strike record is questionable, but there are circumstances that led to this. Granted, he could really use more work on his finishing.

As for being "whored" around, he's in a no lose situation as far as money and playing time goes if he's flogged to the PL. Football is ruthless and the kid just played the clubs at their own game.

He's first choice for Juve in CL, but oddly, Allegri prefers Mandzu for Serie A.

He got injured/saved for CL towards the end of the year which opened the doors for Zaza, but make no mistake about it, most Juve fans would rather get rid of Zaza for free than allow Madrid to buy back Morata.

They did it with Negredo a few years back. I can only assume that he got a slice of the sell-on profit.

That said, I doubt he sees himself as going into a bad situation. He's either back at Real Madrid (with a payrise) or he's on his way to another club that values him highly.

Getting a part of the profit is the only reasonable explanation.

I mean if he wanted to go to Chelsea for example, Chelsea could pay Juventus €35M, give Morata another €5M or so over his normal sign on fee and still get a much better price than the €60m Madrid want for him.

Except Real would receive 80% of the fee that Chelsea pay to Juve, or something along those lines, so Juve wouldn't do it.

If I wanted a challenge in my career I wouldn't go near Ligue 1

It will be funny if Real have bought him back just to sell at high price and no one is interested to pay that much. Will be bad for player though.

Wonder why the player agreed to go back to Real? Surely he can see what they intend to do.

EDIT: Unless of course, he is somehow contractually unable to refuse. This however, I highly doubt.

I love this guy. Pace, strength, awareness he has it all. He has the look of a player who will hit it big a bit later , say 25/26.

Yea, he actually looks a very good player, certainly has a lot of tools, if he can just keep progressing in the next couple years he could easily become a top, top forward.
No idea why some posters are calling him garbage when just looking at 1 arbitrary stat and writing him off completely.

Hes a good player, not the best finisher, but maybe he will improve

If the offer is high enough they’ll sell him. If not, they keep him and loan Jese out (or sell him with one of those sell him back at a profit clauses) and have a very nice complement/substitute for Benzema.

While he’s not a top class finisher, one thing he’s very good at is holding the ball up and creating space for oncoming attackers. Perfect fit for Madrid’s system. And the goals will come from Ronaldo and Bale anyways.

PSG will walk it sure, but it's a nice place, great paycheck and much better than Zenith or Shahktar or the other options where Hulk and Garay went for example.

PSG won't be bad for him IMO. He'll get plenty of game time with Zlatan leaving, possibly be the main man in attack, guaranteed place in CL and most likely even in the latter stage of it.

I love title, "madrid use buyback clause" just doesn't cut it? Wtf are federative rights :D

I'm a little confused, how is it legal for him to have no choice but to go back to Madrid?

Madrid does it quite often. They sell their players cheap and insert a clause that allows them to buy them back at a higher price. If the buying club wants the player, they have to accept the clause or pay more for him.

Juventus made a €10 mill profit on him for 2 years, so I'm sure they're not too bothered. It still seems a bit sketchy but it's not illegal according to FIFA.

Batshuayi seems set to go to Chelsea. Looks like it's down to two for Alvaro. Will he go to Arsenal to compete with 29 year old Giroud or be Zlatan's back up and eventually succeed him at United?

Apparently Zidane is going to keep him.

Good for him since he really cares about that club, but wow, must really be hard to go from being one of the key guys in a well run club going to a squad player in a club that openly tried to sell him.

Wasn't he on the bench for most of the time last season? So not sure he was a key guy.

Allegri handled him weirdly. He was third choice after Mandzu and Dybala in the league but he led the team in minutes played in the CL.
