All Time Reserves Draft | Quarters

Stunned that a certain player hasn't been picked thus far, pegged him down as a first round pick (at worst second round).

@mazhar13 @Marty1968

The list is and shall remain unedited for the duration of the draft.
Yeah it was in gest.

So far I really like Physio's, RedTiger and Aldo/Stain sides, but the rest are looking solid as well. Pretty even pool so far which is nice to see.

I don't know. I feel like I'm biased towards Liverpool bunch of the 80's but I feel that they lack something to be considered equals to the very top players of their generation (apart from Souness maybe). Despite their European success. It's really a paradox of Liverpool in my eyes - despite them being more successful team on the continent I feel that we had at least 4 players that were better than anyone they ever produced (Charlton, Best, Law and Ronaldo) and a few that arguably were as good as anyone they had (Keane, Schmeichel, Ferdinand, Scholes). I'll try to keep an open mind about this although, I hope that you'll do a great job selling them

Tbh, I was trying to steer this away from United comparisons as that is one way to dig my own grave. But then again it'd be very hard to avoid the parallels. The more I read, the more I find myself comparing Shankly to Busby and so. The team overall had a very good backline. With Souness and Dalglish becoming the parallel to our own Keane and Cantona, they were an inspirational team. Quite difficult to do without naing unpicked players, let me take a shot after the drafting is done.

They're dull as feck, though. Utterly lack charm, or even flair, compared to many other serial winning sides. That's part of it.

But @Gio is obviously right: They're generally underrated on here. Would be very, very strange if they weren't.

I'd refrain from the bolded comparison personally. :lol: Souness/Keane ok, but the other one will generate a lot of "joy" as one can imagine.

Personally I have no problems with Dalglish/Rush combo and it's excellent one in terms of the pool, but going at that angle and comparing them to United's legends will win no favorites.

Sure!

Not an accident that there is probably no former Liverpool players blocked.:devil:

This will not end well. :lol:

I know :lol: But that's the most obvious comparison...straddling a fine line here.

In fact the first hit on my search is a caf thread, which I've just bumped. Let's see how the dominoes fall now :nervous:

Being underrrated is not a big deal.

I'm sure on Bluemoon and maybe RAWK hyping up opposition legends would be a bannable offense. :lol:

More seriously, would you compare Rush with Cristiano Ronaldo or Law? :D

Thing is that apart from the odd scan voter, I doubt you'll find many overly and narrowly partisan people among those who take an interest in these drafts. The United-neutral ratio in our sub-community is completely different to the general one on the Caf, for one thing.

If you look at what will be considered final worthy XIs picked from any pool you can think of, I doubt you'll find many examples of United players having made it into those without objectively (enough) deserving to be there.

There's a tendency to overrate a small segment of players - that I will concede. But some of those are objectively final worthy to begin with - it's more a question of rating them half a notch above their true level (which any neutral would admit is very high), not a question of bigging up mediocre players.

I'm on the mobile, so I can't say much other than the name of this reliable full back right now.

@Physiocrat

Can someone update the list for me?

Finally, absolutely ridiculous that he lasted that long. Could have easily been a first round pick, what a steal he is at this stage.

Aye, I was really interested in picking him and playing him as false 9, but we decided to go in a different direction.

Didn't you do that in the World Cup draft? This sounds so familiar.
