No way?

Seriously. To either of them. Are you trying to give him a heart attack when he logs back on?

Olof Mellberg
Awesome. Far as defensive fullbacks go, this guy was up there among the ones left. Was hoping someone would pick him. Also, bleezy sweeps aside the best beard award.

Loved Laurent Robert at Newcastle. Ridiculous striker of a ball. A bit of a temperamental inconsistant cnut though.

Welbeck is certainly a bizarre one. A striker that's never scored double figures in the prem. Unless he's gonna be used in some sort of tactical masterplan, stick him on a Pirlo type like Fergie used to try

:D I loved watching Robert. It was the first time I'd seen two goals from the same player from the same game on Goal of the Month

I thought he was a centre back?? A very good one at that

I rate him both at CB and RB. Bleezy has Toure and Johnsen as the CB pair so I assume Mellberg will be deployed as the RB.

Arbeloa would be the right back i'd guess. Mellberg is a versatile pick for cover, may even start ahead of Johnsen. It also allows him to upgrade Johnsen for a more notable Man Utd attacking pick in the next round without havin to make another transfer to facilitate it.

Reminded me of Bergkamp having all the top 3 in the goal of the month once.

Reminds me of Schuster occupying all 3 top spots in the German Goal of The Year contest, with the first (shot from half-way line) being the goal of the decade to boot.

Ah, missed Arbeloa. Well yeah in that case he can deploy Mellberg depending on the opposition. Good option to have.

Yes, this is basically it. One eye on future rounds (should I get past the first), but also a bit of flexibility with the centre back choices depending on which attacker I come against. I rate Mellberg very highly, and lived in Birmingham for a long time around Villa fans, so I know just how highly they talk of him.

Malouda is one I think goes a bit under the radar when we're talking about left wingers of recent times. Player of the year for a title-winning Chelsea side in 09/10 with 12 goals and 10 assists in the league, then was top scorer for them the following year with 13. The next season was the funny AVB/Di Matteo one, and then he was left to rot in the reserves the final season because he turned down a transfer away from Chelsea.

Haha nice stories. Closest I've been to a footballer was when I met benzema at a restaurant.

I met Pelé at a party I gatecrashed. Stood right in front of him but didn't say a word to him, just kept staring at his date like the teenager I was.

Can you blame me?

He was pretty solid, but all I can remember when I think about him is this:

That early-to-mid 00s Newcastle side went relatively untouched so far, they were formidable.

And a couple of decent names still left from The Entertainers.

Indeed, Robert is a good pick, no doubt. What Welbeck is doing in this I'll never know. I mean, someone just picked Di Canio, which was late but more appropriate at this stage than Danny Welbeck.

@antohan I adore you mate. Seriously. Two fecking amazing stories, I seriously hope you're not some wanker making stuff up online :D

We pick Steve Stone, Team of the Season 1995-96, to add some flexibility.

 Not at all. For all the talk of the gap between rich and poor in South America, I find the segmentations are more significant in Europe.

The problem is the millions and millions who are poor, obviously, but if you are out of that group (not rich, just not poor) you almost automatically have easy access to all the rich and famous.

Not sure how to explain this... E.g. Pelé, I saw him in Punta del Este (a seaside resort in Uruguay that all the Argies/Brazilians dream of escaping to). I also saw Maradona there at a nightclub (coked out of his head). I played footie in the beach with a retired Tarantini among dozens of retired Argie NT players (even injured Walter Pico, who used to play for Boca)...

It doesn't mean I have the same disposable income, but it's such a narrow market that "rich people places" aren't sustainable so they have to hang out with us normal people. It isn't really an option not to.

Edit: actually, there is a way, it's called a private party, which is where gatecrashing comes in :D

In short, I think it boils down to the gap being more significant between poor and middle class, while there isn't such a sizeable gap between middle class and rich. Europe is the opposite.
