All time ODI Draft

What a fecking pick in Dhoni. I was hoping he'd go unpicked. A must have in any ODI team.

He was very good, especially because of his economy, no arguments there but he isn't in the top 5 pacers of all time.

Why not though? I am curious to hear the argument.

He bowled in an era where oppositions have great batsmen and in noughties where the pitches became more batting friendly, yet his record was outstanding. Wasim and McGrath are the only two who were better than him. Others like Donald and Waqar etc were great as well and I would rank them alongside Pollock, with Pollock having the edge due to his lower order batting ability.

 How? There was no chance of that. He is India's 2nd best ODI player all time imo.

I am talking about his ability as a bowler only. I'd have each of the 4 you mentioned above him and there are some yet to be picked too. I believe your strike bowler has to be a proper wicket taker, nothing contains the runs like a wicket and that's what gives some of the names I'm thinking of the edge over Pollock. Pretty sure they'll be picked soon so we can see who all I'm talking about.

Didn't think we would get MS, honestly, being 3rd from last. 8900 runs, average of 51, wicket keeper with 250 catches, and arguably best LOI captain, not to mention one of the top finishers who can play anywhere from 3 to 7.

I know exactly whom you're talking about.

But, you are also severely underrating Pollock's ability to take wickets IMO. Especially in late nineties and early noughties, when his knees weren't fecked, he was as good a strike bowler as the likes of Donald, Waqar and a couple who are left. He wasn't as express as those bowlers but he used to take wickets consistently as well because of his ability to seam the ball both ways and bowl at the off-stump/fourth stump line which batsmen always tend to get out to.

Expecting skills to post a pic?

I'm surprised he gave the full name.

He explicitly mentioned it in the OP which is why I even bothered. But I forgot Mr Engineer is all about efficiency.

Can't agree to him being as good a strike bowler as the likes of Donald, Wasim, waqar etc. I'm not saying he wasn't very good, he was, just not top 5 or so.

He was excellent, but doesn't quite make Top 5 for me, maybe Top 10. He just didn't seem to be the sort of Game changer the likes of Wasim, Waqar, Donald were. Infact,I sometimes used to think Donald would have been given more credit, if he had a better bowler along side him.

I haven't even read the op. I just copied it from the link aldo posted.

Donald is given enough credit TBH. The only reason why some don't rate him that high was because his fall was so bad that they forget what a scary bowler he was in mid-90s. Also, he made his debut at International stage quite late because Saffers were banned, which many forget.

Also, I won't debate about Wasim because he is the best ODI bowler ever IMO. But Waqar and Donald while being explosive and game changers were also wayward and in conditions where it wasn't bowler friendly, they weren't as great. For me that is where somewhere like Pollock made his mark because his bowling generally was good in all kinds of conditions.

Anyway, lets agree to disagree then.

Oh Dear. Plan completely backfired.

Wanted one of MSD, Bevan or Ponting.

I think Pollock is very overrated. I would even have mata ahead of him

Was hoping he would get back to me:(

Damn, I hate this snake draft. Just when you think you are one step ahead of everyone else, you realize you are walking in a swamp. :(
