All Time Great Managers Draft

--------------------

Would be my preference. Not a block list, but only one pick per drafter.

Possible additions: Kohler (#1 classic stopper by far) and Cafu (#1 attacking RB by far).
Think this one looks good, along open RR, as otherwise as Gio mentioned it might become a bit dull in the later rounds.

EDIT: Might probably add Neeskens to the list too if we're including Matthaus and Rijkaard. Neeskens offers extra versatility and IMO easily forms the top 3 of the greatest midfielders of all time (if we don't consider Di Stefano and Beckenbauer as one).

btw are picked managers blocked as players?

I cut the discussion short, more feedback than I expected already. Thanks everyone, it helped, still learning the craft.

Final list:
Perma-blocked:
Pele, Maradona, Messi
One pick for each poster from this list:
Beckenbauer, Baresi, Figueroa, Nesta, Maldini, Facchetti
Rijkaard, Matthäus
Di Stefano, Platini
Cruyff, Puskas, Zico, Gullit, Best, Garrincha, C. Ronaldo, Eusebio
Fenomeno, Müller, Van Basten

Bit of a pity about Messi, but most of his tasks can be filled by other players on a lesser level.

Please tag everyone so they have a chance to change manager picks and also provide a new deadline so I can reveal the manager pick results

who isnt changing the pick let synco know so we dont wait in case you are maybe changing the pick.

I'm happy with current choices.

What's going on? I thought we would have managers assigned already.

I am personally against any block list since it will then heavily favour who get top picks in a snake draft. No matter how many "GOAT"s you block, you won't be able to find the right balance to ensure some managers still don't get to pick calibre of players similar to that level. For example - 5 managers top of snake draft will get to pick 5 players from the players who are not blocked from list above.

Someone(invi :D) really needs to check this up because every draft this is mentioned and i always think its bs, in fact if i could chose id rather be near the end rather then on the top of the table.

Original submission deadline was later today. Even with the extension, manager picks & draft order will be revealed shortly after 8pm UK time. Or earlier, if everyone confirms their manager picks.

It evens out quite a bit, as the snake reverses after round 1: Top 5 will get first picks from the list above (not a block list), bottom 5 will get first picks of everyone else (and a double pick at that).

Also, what a top player is is restricted by manager philosophy and manager blocks, so it's not just straight GOAT picking.

But yes, it can never be 100% fair. Still think it's okay.

Middle is normally the worst place to be, but generally being at the top end helps.

Yeah, it's worth looking into. I imagine being at either end is best because, for example at the top you get first dibs of the whole pool before the first round and again before the semi-final. Also depends on the pool. More restricted pools may only have 2-3 superstars where getting the 16th and 17th best players does not compensate like it does in an all-time pool.

It's not valid for all drafts obviously and depends on the pool. But in all time pool those at the top always have a bit of an advantage. Didn't we just have a draft where only @Pat_Mustard made it through the first round from the bottom 8?

Raees did too and he was last. But the first team in draft order won the whole thing so not the best time to bring up this point.

nah, I mean scrappy's draft(I think), not the one that just finished.

Nah, Pat was the only one who beat a higher seed in round 1 (we had seeding after initial drafting). Everyone from top 8 seeds won, except someone, whom Pat beat.

The semifinalists positions in drafting order were 1, 6, 9 and 13. Pretty even I think.

2mufc0 I think was 15th and if he hadn't made a tactical feck up in his round 1 game, he'd probably have made it to the semis too. Ended up winning the Coropa of course.

Mine are finalised

So most people have submitted their definite lists & the ones still missing have been tagged. (@crappycraperson since you were on recently, I guess your picks remain the same?)

Biggest obstacle: DVG has had a little episode with the staff and won't play. We've asked King Kendrick if he wants to to step in, but as long as he isn't confirmed to play, we're at 15.

So the deadline is up & all have submitted, but after DVG's mishap we're one player short.

If I get @King Kendrick's location right, we have contacted him at a pretty stupid time, and it's only noon there now. Would like him to get another shot at joining, after getting narrowly outdone once already. After all, we asked him this time.

Still, we can look for a possible replacement replacement, just in case KK won't be available.

We're complete & King Kendrick has sent his list.

@Physiocrat should do the manager draw now (hope he's online). Draft order follows right afterwards.
