All-Time Fantasy Draft

Just deciding between two players that will shape my team - give me a few minutes please.

I'm around for the next half an hour or so but after that might not get a chance to post my pick. Hopefully if NM chooses soon, I can see Thisistheone is online so I should be able to post but if not is someone around for me to PM?

Just PM your picks to Fergus'son so he can get all four players out of the way in one go and move it straight back to Thisistheone.

There is one player who I'm realllllyyyyyy surprised hasn't been picked yet :wenger:

Ha! Neeskens was my next pick. feck.

...Ok, I'll go for Sir Bobby Charlton

Probably the greatest English player. Star of '66 and also made it into the team of the tournament in '70 as well. Plus, he's one of the Holy Trinity.

Geatano Scirea will be my pick.

And that is a classy pick, was always him or Moore for me but wanted my Italian pick for later.

He is. I was at pains when taking Rijkaard. He was more suitable for what I was looking for and I assume will be better known as well, but Neeskens was a cracking player.

To be fair, that's a win-win either way you went, both were exceptional players and it's a toss-up, and a question of team-building, with which to pick.

Right now I'm thinking of using Charlton in a deeper role. He often played as CM in a 442 or in a 433? Maradona will prob be my 10 tucked in behind a big man, who I can hopefully get, fingers crossed.

Edit: Although to be honest, my plans have changed about 3 or 4 times already with players like Neeskens going.

Son of a bitch. Best and Garrincha on the wings for me would have been unstoppable. :(

In the eyes of the average voter, no doubt a dream ticket. In real-life though, maybe not the best idea. Brwned's stories illustrate it: supremely talented, irreverent, I like that so long as there isn't too much of it. Focus, the aim is to score goals and win.

Being far superior technically and losing focus as a result has been the undoing of way too many Brazilian sides. Think Denilson. Well, Garrincha was not too far from that. Still, while I would call Denilson frustrating, I wouldn't say the same for Garrincha, but his end product was lacking at times (his crossing was woefully erratic).

Absolute joy to watch, but you only have to see how Brazil's managers worked with that. In '58 he was played with the sole purpose of demoralising the opposition and getting them disorganised.

To his credit though, he did buckle up in '62 once Pelé got injured and won it almost single-handedly. I find that a bit frustrating though (Pelé did as well), he had everything to be much much more effective, but approached games as if he was in a playground and it was the other ten guys' job to get a result while he just literally dribbled people for fun.

Best was of course much more direct, but I could see the two of them together engaging in some sort of weird tekkers competition and forgetting the point is to win.

Typically he'd be one of the inside-forwards while Crerand and Stile took care of the midfield:

Although he did man-mark Beckenbauer out of the final in '66 so he could clearly do his bit defensively. You'd be throwing away a lot of goals though.

Precisely, I just felt Rijkaard afforded me more flexibility and could be paired with more players, which I need to prioritise. The vote-winning cream is bound to stay at the top of the drafting order, I can only try give myself a chance aiming for a coherent XI and a lucky draw, then hope reinforcements close the gap.

Those flanks

feck me, dan has made a good job of missing his pick for a while. Cristiano was the next no brainer after Best as he allowed you to do exactly what he's just done: Brazilian flanks (well, Portuguese speaking ones).

How about Charlton and Maradona behind a no.9?

Maradona-----Charlton

In a loose 433 formation?
