All-Time Fantasy Draft

I wanted Maldini myself but everyone else thought it was a no-brainer. I appreciate that Baresi's the standout defender in the draft on reputation alone but there's still some quality centre backs and very few quality fullback. McGrain against Best is unlikely to go down well...

Ah, so it was Maldini you were mulling over. That makes more sense considering your right back situation. Were you looking at Brehme switching to the right?

feck it, Baresi was still a no-brainer against van Basten.

Were you thinking of Maldini on the right?

I actually think that would be the best choice in reality but in this game I think Maldini on the right would attract some criticism. Would make for an interesting discussion though! Brehme more natural out there but Maldini with the sturdy defence presence to back up a defensively weak player in Matthews. Giggs can take care of himself much better.

Indeed it would. Shame you can't take Zanetti, I'd like for him to go to a nice home!

Robson out then, is it a quality or balance issue for you?

Redondo, Robson would've worked better with Baggio in front of them rather than Tigana and Edwards IMO. Thing with Edwards though is that he has a mythical stature, he's portrayed as being as much of a one man midfield as Matthaus and because people have seen so little of him they cannot counter these claims.

Out of all of those choices he had Edwards was the best midfielder to pick, then probably Redondo or Robson, and Tigana last.

No idea myself. Robson got criticism in that he would leave Tigana to do it all by himself as he kept charging forward.

Can't see how that is going to be any different here.

Both. The Robson pick didn't go down as well as expected. Some strong midfields in this so if I'm goin with the 4-4-1-1 need a man to throw his weight about infront of the back 4. Robson would be too restricted in that role. Dunc is the man I feel

Yeah, as a sole DM there's no better choice than Edwards but I though Tigana was the most expendable from your midfield, and that Redondo Robson would've been brilliant.

Wow, so you are pussying out and away from 4-2-3-1

It surprised me a bit that the consensus was that it was Robson that didn't belong at this level.

In fairness, I think that was partly because it was the first game. People expected to see the all-time greatest around and MJJ had packed the midfield with Edwards, Monti, Suárez... So finding a relatively recent and relatively unsuccessful United player there probably provoked that sort of sceptical reception.

As far as I know Aldo won the newbie version of this with Robson in midfield, so there you go...

Where the hell is NM anyway? He was badgering me to pick around the same time Cutch made his.

Trouble with picking up an Argentinian, you'd miss the opportunity of adding Messi or Maradona to your team later (if you don't have them yet). But you should be fine if the Argentinian on your team is an attacking player, so you could just swap them later. But then you'll bench one of your star player.

It would be interesting if managers can trade players at this stage.

I left my side Argie-less hoping one of Messi, Maradona or Di Stéfano would become available. Now that was clever

We actually tried to introduce that in one of these before. Didn't work. No one wanted to trade except those with huge gaping holes in their side and no one was very willing to ship them over their star player in exchange for some nobody.

We were all very excited about doing it but as the time to make swaps approached everyone just stopped talking about it as something worthwhile.

The nationality rule probably gives more grounds for it, but it would be a right bloody mess and arguably unfair on those who had a clear team and drafting strategy in place from the start.

Oh, he is thinking then, I thought he had just buggered off at the completely wrong time.

Will be interesting to see how you set yourself up.

We are struggling to decide. When you play it out there is no clear way to go at all. Really frustrating.

They are worth the gamble. Couldn't think any player that can generate masses votes other than Messi and Maradona. And luckily no team can have them both.

I actually PMd to Aldo the picks I didn't want you to make. We can compare notes later.

But they can't play at the same time, that's the whole point of the rule, avoiding ridiculous squads forming and pulling away out of sight.

 Awesome, yeah I definitely want to read that.

Didn't want us to pick in terms of making it a good side and hard for you to beat? Or in terms of picking players you have no use for if you win and pick from us?

You were always going to get Matthaus/Beckenbauer so we need to factor in picking him if we win, which means a new forward..

Problem is we have much much bigger needs than a new striker. Annoying.

In terms of you getting better. I don't think there's any realistic chance of you picking anything I need that would be better than what I would take from you now.

You can always take Erico from me ;)

Yeah your picks are clear I guess, Thuram/Pele. Works nice because you lose Henry by adding a French player but then immediately relplace him with Pele! Perfect.

And who do I play upfront then? Erico? Don't think people gave him that much credit TBH, which is a shame.

Pele.

NM has decided anyway I think. Sorry for the delay guys, both busy.

Stobzilla - Matthaus
Antohan - Beckenbauer
Brwned - Baresi
Cutch - Edwards
NM - Figueroa
Thisistheone - Cruyff
KM -
DanNistlerooy -

Cruyff and Mardona on the same team is great, Cruyff is arguably the best star you can get who you don't need to worry about pairing up with other stars too much IMO.
