All-Time Fantasy Draft

Pffaf
Beckenbauer
Zanetti Costacurta Vidic Krol
Ocwirk Pirri
Didi
Eusebio Kocsis

...

This I think brings out the best in all my best players, Beckenbauer, Ocwirk, Didi, my full backs, and the devastating duo up front. Was hard trying to optimise these older players, but I think this formation just about manages it.

McNeill could be an easy sell with what he achieved in the game, captaining Celtic to the European Cup and being the first British player to lift it etc. But I think Carvalho was the better player, he oozed class at Chelsea with his positioning and reading of the game.

Hard to definitively say who was better for me, as I haven't seen a great deal of Mcniell aside from that European campaign.

Carvalho was good, better than Terry, but I'v never been a huge fan.

Who would pair up with Passarella better? I'm inclined to say Mcniell...

All my players are unbelievable, people can laugh all they want, but my team is up there with any.

Martin Peters was a pretty functional player all things considered, Deschamps himself is lacking real class on the ball and there are no out-of-this-world #10's to make up for it. Though I do like Deco. It's just a very uninspiring engine room.

Oh feck

Just found this song about Rummenigge, the opening lines,

Over in West Germany
There's a football player
With sexy knees.
With sexy knees?
With sexy knees!
Talking 'bout a man with sexy knees -
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge
What a man.

Also, is there a more downright legendary front three in the draft that Eusebio, Kocsis and Didi?

All three have utterly dominated world cup tournaments, being the best players or top scorers etc.

A front two of Pele and Ruminiegge (enough on its own!!) with Blokhin and Boniek on the wings.

My team will probably play as a 442 with 2 of Giles, Deschamps, Deco, and Peters.

Oi, show some respect. Everyone's worked hard and spent time to put together a team which they think would work.

It was respect. I want to see a 4-4-2 on 4-4-2 battle!! With me winning of course

My internet is going on the spritz, I'm using my phone for this, so I wont have a write up for a few days.

Play Giles and Deschamps. Add Deco in for Law if you think you need an extra midfield body but IMO the gulf in class between Law and Deco is pretty significant so you're better off keeping Law in whenever possible.

Gento as a winger in a 442 will attract criticism.

It's good if you have managed to pick better players (in your opinion), just don't be blatantly disrespectful. That is all.

Dude wtf? We are the only 2 in the draft (I think) with 4-4-2s.. That's why I want to play him.. Whats wrong with that?

No worries mate. We'll make the draw today but games will only start after the weekend so people have time for that.

Agreed. Takes a lot of time and everybody has done a great job in sticking this out. Plus I haven't had as much enjoyment out of a thread in months, it's been a cracking read.

In defence of NM though I don't think he was trying to disrespect anyone, in our PM's hes been bigging up all the other teams!

I hope to draw against NM.

Is it disrespectful?

I just hope I don't draw the strongest teams. No one will be a walk in the park, particularly since we have bugger all idea how people will take to each player.

By all accounts, Erico was Romario's speed of thought, dribbling, and playing off the shoulder, with a certain Mexican's athleticism and resourcefulness/finishing flair, and a certain Chilean's aerial dominance, all neatly rolled into one. Will people appreciate that? The feck they will. He has no caps.

Why does he have no caps? Because Paraguay had just been at war and their relationship with Argentina was tense, so there was a rule that no one playing abroad could be capped. It was a rule that seemed specifically designed to punish Erico, yet the lad didn't declare for Argentina instead.

The Argentinian FA offered him 200,000 pesos to play for them, which he refused. At the time, a Ford T was worth 5,000 pesos. Allowing for cars being more expensive then and salaries being exorbitant today, it would be like a player who has been banned by his country refusing 40 Ferrari Testarossa's to play for another. Incredible.

Repeating - I don't actually know Jakes full team. I just want to see the 4-4-2. That's my favorite formation.

De Stefano has called Eusebio the best of all time too.

Source? I have him on tape saying that Erico was the best (unfortunately it is in Spanish and a very long interview, would have to look up the segment).

As a River-supporting kid he actually went to Independiente's training ground every day just to watch Erico. In 1966, during the World Cup, he saw Erico watching the same game at the stadium and sent him a short note: "I have only been a humble immitation".

Humble the operative word here, not putting down Di Stéfano at all, but he knows a thing or two about football.

I wouldn't be confident against anyone but I'd most like to play Cutch simply for the possibility of adding van Basten to my side. I've got room for a Dutchman, Italian and Spaniard without moving my team about so that'd be a nice start.

I read it on his wiki page!

You don't draft directly from your opponents this round anyway do you?

Oh aye right enough, never mind then! Jake please.

No, seriously, I'd say there'll be two games at most with a clear winner from the off. The teams are just too good.
