Part not feeling right that it hadn't come across the right way re: diarm and partly a load of stuff to say about drafts and how they were going tits up. Seems some have been looked into.

Good stuff. I always enjoyed reading your comments. Good luck with your start-up. What sector are you working in?

Will you look at who's back!? It's great to have you back @antohan! I hope you can come in and spectate some of our Americas Draft matches. I'd certainly enjoy reading your posts on our matchups.

My European/UEFA Cup viewing has been limited to certain teams I fancied or at some point looked into in more detail. I had never looked into 60s AC Milan in much detail (I’m more of an Inter man) but the chains and Brera took me down that path. Oh boy… doesn’t Rivera deserve a good showing on here!?! What a fecking player! Gorgeous, absolutely stunning, miles, and I mean a million miles, better than anything I had seen with Italy bar glimpses in ’68 (the problem not being Rivera but the incompatibility between the Inter and AC Milan styles and key players). I thought I rated him before, but man did I underrate the little Abatino

When I first saw proper footage of Gianni Rivera, I was surprised that he wasn't as highly rated as he should be on the 'Caf. He really is one of the best footballers I have ever seen ("ever" as in "all-time"; yes, I'm putting him up there with GOAT's). I remember trying to watch Rosato in the AC Milan-Man. Utd. match in the 1968-69 Champions League campaign, but my eyes always pulled towards Rivera. What a magician he is! I just hope that more in the Caf rate him as much as I and you seem to do.

By the way, I hope you get some free time out to get involved in a draft here or there. It'd be a joy to see you involved once again. If not, I'm still happy to have you back on the Caf.

Fintech. It's picking up nicely in Latin America so we are looking at US/Europe next year :squeakybumtimesmilie:

Yups, very much what I was thinking last year watching him in all his glory and not randomly picking him up while watching Italy games. He really deserved a good runout in the right setup.

Doubt I will get into any drafts. A few months ago I did some work on the Bamboozle concept as a plan for my return but ditched it half way.

I have a wonderful pair of twins on the way so my spare time is spoken for.

@antohan, welcome back!

Scirea certainly helped containing Romario but from what i can remember; Laudrup had more influence in the semi. Then in the final Romario won it for me.

@antohan I hear great things. People basically use your research to argue points in these drafts.

Had a look at the game in question, how the hell did your team get beat off one that contained sol campbell and gary neville in defence?! in an all time draft too!:lol::lol:

diarm's defence is also one that should not be underrated. Neville was quite a reliable and composed defender when he matured, and he did a good job marking out opposing wide players. Giuseppe Baresi and Campbell's quite a good, complementary defence. Putting aside his interesting personality, Campbell was Arsenal's best player against Barcelona in the 2006 Champions League final when they went down to 10 men. Also, when Adams was getting older, Campbell did a great job in filling the void for Arsenal and keeping that defence mean and solid. Put Campbell under a head coach/manager who valued defending more than Wenger did, and I'm sure he'd be better remembered in his Arsenal days. Then, you have Amoros, who was a reliable full back on both ends.
After that, you have Scholes and Tardelli, which is a great midfield partnership. Scholes as a deep-lying playmaker was quite adept in his defensive positioning and would compensate for his lack of defensive skills with good positioning and reading of the game, which contributed to his dominant performances. Tardelli is the perfect partner for him as well; his tireless, energetic approach combined with his anticipation and intelligence makes diarm's midfield tough to overcome. Then, you have Schuster around who can press from high up and unsettle Anto's deeper players on the ball.
What in the world was I thinking when writing this up? I was so naive back then!

Funny that. When I argue points they are ignored as biased but when they come handy they turn into gospel, don't they?

It was fecking ridiculous, that's what it was.

And you haven't picked on Giuseppe Baresi actually being even lower calibre.

Credit to @diarm though, he rode his luck, played dumb and stayed focused on his strengths. Good job. Everyone loves an underdog, all you have to do is get some to commit to the undrrdog and others to forget to vote.

@antohan welcome back mate. Hope all is well with the business.

I'm sure if you've scanned through the SA draft, you'll see just about every manager has used you as a reference point for their picks at some point

You lucky lucky man. I didn't notice I was no longer banned yesterday when I came across your game. Sorry @Physiocrat

There was very little in it, mind, but the sort of game where I would have resorted to "which team has more to offer going forward" and @Physiocrat's side was very well crafted without the superstar appeal you had with Nazario.

I would have preferred eliminating the fatso from the equation going forward and seeing what people really made of the likes of Artime, etc.

 well I'm glad you delayed your return just a little longer then!

It's mostly @Pat_Mustard's team really, I'm just tagging along for the ride on this one, been busy myself. But I'm sure he's grateful too ;)

:lol::lol: i didn't i just saw Baresi and assumed it was the main one. Even with him it was still laughable that you lost but it was the brother, thats incredible!!

i wish you could have taken charge of my La Maquinha side in the remake draft, trying to convince people that the players i choose to replicate the historical counterparts were accurate was nigh on impossible because there was next to no information about them.

@mazhar13 @green_smiley @Mciahel Goodman @Gio @Physiocrat

Massive rant on the way! It’s a characteristically long post I wrote last year as a farewell… only to find I had been banned when I tried post it  It has been sitting in my laptop for a year and has a few updates along the way.
Weird seeing you back around, you've been gone a while. Your last WW meltdown was like a farewell

La Maquina is always a difficult one. I can read in EN/ES/PT/IT/FR, which always helps with research, but even being a native Spanish speaker it is hard to come across proper accurate accounts of each player's style of play and how they contributed to the sum of parts. It's obvious there must have been synergy in the way they went about stuff, but I couldn't put my finger on any more than how good each player was individually.

A shame really.

Don't have the faintest idea what that was like. It was probably villager Anto losing the game after getting whacked late on just in case he was evil (as usual)? Villagers are idiots, particularly endgame ones.

You convinced everyone to lynch the outed seer, iirc. You knew he was the seer too, happened to be LitterBug (I think).

I had no idea really about ramos and rodolfi, the two cm's, so I based my picks on what i knew about the team as a whole ( ultra attacking, kept the ball well, dynamic) and I re-made those two with iniesta and Veron. Most people, rightfully so, just assumed that could never work and with not a lot of info available it made it too hard to justify. A shame because I absolutely nailed a few of the players, Ivan Cordoba/ Norberto Yacono being my favourite re-make.

just read through this, and whilst i think antohan's team wins this comfortably, @diarm comments and attitude were pretty exemplary.

That sounds like me alright. I remember I thought of him as Little Bugger and couldn't care less whether he was legit or evil.

Welcome back @antohan heard many good things and you're posts have been used several times to beat me in these drafts.

I know you don't want to comment on the draft whilst it's still on going for fear of influencing others, but if you could take a look at my match and inbox me what you think that'd be quality as I still don't know how I lost it

Wow... welcome back - good to have you back mate x

Great to see you back and really glad you liked my side. So close to getting through.

  1. Third, manager’s not voting or wanting fecking penos. I don’t mind the scan voters, we know it’s part and parcel, but I’m increasingly annoyed with managers who take part in the thread, bang on and on, then don’t vote at all when a game is tight. What’s the fecking point? That’s how scan voters become an issue. And no, we don’t need double votes because many non-managers know their shit and many managers vote like cnuts. Voting for the draw is a copout, we seem to draw games more often than not these days, it’s fecking ridiculous. And how many times do we get some tosser explaining his vote with “I’m not sure about X/Y/Z” and then after lengthy explanations and multiple posts “Yeah, I see, you are right, but it would be unfair to the other guy if I changed my vote now”. SERIOUSLY? I say this in the nicest possible way: grow a fecking pair.

My stupid vote was a blessing in disguise in the sense it has partly contributed to your come-back & new debates regarding the voting process.

Of course, I'm sorry for @Physiocrat

Not sure what you mean. I wrote that last year when any remotely close game inevitably ended as a draw.

Yesterday, I "voted for a draw".

Have you followed the last drafts? If the answer is yes, what are your thoughts?
