In a diamond or as a wide midfielder? Gallacher/Meredith is a strong pool of player. A goalscorer and a more of an outside right.
 
Need a bit of luck here, really. Trouble with this format - combined with the non English quota - is that you could very well end up with nothing in therms of actual, significant - useful even - improvements.

You've got your nominations in, along comes someone and outbids you - and bang, game over.

Like I said, you need a bit o' luck.

Yeah, you are a bit shafted if you want to upgrade McManaman. Only Best, Matthews, Johnstone and Finney would really be a worthy upgrade to spend at least a further 20M on, and they are all still in it.

He works really well for your side though. While those are clearly better individually, they don't necessarily fit all that well with the rest of your midfield/attack and may even look quite, errr, "standalone" and detached from the overall midfield/attacking unit.

The problem of course is you will have to break up that unit sooner or later, but for now your focus for improvement should definitely be elsewhere.
 
Interesting enough there is an overload of top quality strikers in Lineker, Rush, Keegan, Rooney, McGrory etc.

And as you say that I went and checked your team and... Uh, oh!... Remember the whole discussion on whether it was better to field Owen or Hughes upfront on their own? You chose Owen, many agreed... but you weren't allowed to since you dropped Hughes for Wes Brown.

Illegal team, points docked. You still qualify on the three points vs. Joga/Barney (0 pts) but it is MJJ that should be in the group winners bowl.

What? I don't think this will work?

Why pit a noticably weaker team against a proven stronger one? Usually they play within the final player in weaker pool faces the final player in the stronger pool for finals.

The principle is clear - and time honoured: You gain an advantage by winning your group.

Not that it has to be an advantage, necessarily. All these groups were pretty tight, in fairness.

Not sure what you propose as the alternative either - not being crystal clear there, mate.
