Lads, regarding Carrick - as I understood it only players who have played in the old top flight (i.e. before the inception of the PL, see the Pallister situation above) are ineligible. Whether a player has spent time down the divisions in the PL era shouldn't matter.

So, Carrick should be fine - as far as I can tell.

Yeah definitely fecked up bidding so high on Keane and Jennings. Keane is great, but I shouldn't have spent more than 50.

No. Annah has 80m for 8 players. It's a strategy to go the way you did with Keane. There are loads of very good players you can pick for 10m in later rounds. Just stick in and you'll see.

Ends up being a bit of an endless argument. We can only go by hearsay and his statistics, and I've never read or heard anything which ought to make him comparable to the very best in terms of his attributes. A great, even legendary goalscorer, but to be the very best ever you need to have world class attributes outside of that.

He won the top scorer award 2 times in his life, someone like Greaves won it 6 times - one can argue if Dixie is the best striker - but overall he is nowhere near the footballer with the best attributes in history.

There are plenty of absolutely ridiculous goalscoring records from those days, in almost every country. In general the top scorer of the league season scored 35-50 goals which is why he just won it two years, and it was 65 ish years ago since anybody scored 35 goals.

I would love to hear some more about his overall play from sources I haven't seen or read.

It's your first draft ever, right? Those auction drafts are a real bitch, and this one is probably the most difficult auction draft we had so far. You couldn't have chosen a more difficult start to your draft career, so don't worry too much ;)

If we go with "peak" (as we should), there should be no issue there. Ledley was a bloody good player when he wasn't out injured.
