Imagine for a second that your team's best centre forward...is also your best defender. Impossible? Not for John Charles.

Nicknamed the Gentle Giant, due to never being booked or sent off, Charles has become a legend in 3 different countries. Born in Wales, adopted by the Yorkshiremen, and loved by the fans in Turin.

Charles was the youngest Welsh international (until a certain Mr. Giggs came along), and helped Leeds into the top flight in 1956. A year later, Charles finished as the First Division’s top scorer on 38 goals. He often finished matches in defence, protecting what lead he had provided earlier.

The story goes that Billy Wright, England captain and Wolves legend, was once asked to name the best forward he had ever played against and nominated Charles. Lion of Vienna Nat Lofthouse came up with the same reply when requested to pick the best defender he had ever faced.

In 1997, Juve fans voted him their best ever foreign player...which included a Mr. Platini (back before he was a bit of a cnut)

I thought Juventus fans voted him the best foreign player to ever play for the club? Still means he beat Platini of course, but the vote was part of the 100 year anniversary of the club if I'm not mistaken and wasn't about the league, just the club.

Are you deliberately confusing me here? Just went through 4 alerts and 3 PMs that all say 'add players to the list'. So I copied all the names in a text file, looked up the name of the new category in the op before I finally went to the last page of the thread and find out that all of the players sent to me are already on the list. :mad: .

High praise from legends of the game, players and managers.

Captain of West Ham, and of England, Moore read the game better than almost anyone. Able to anticipate opposition movements, he was able to make up for any lack of pace. He was a fantastic leader of his teams, and timed his tackles almost to perfection.

It was high quick thinking in the WC final that led to England's equalizing goal. A quick free kick after a foul, played right to Hurst.

It was a football manager style game. I think it was on a few platforms but I played it on the Spectrum 48K.
