All time British+Irish Fantasy Draft

Hehe, missed this.

Aye, I played it. There was another one too - sort of a FM precursor, can't remember the name now. King Kenny was the big player on it, I recall - the most expensive one.

Might have been on the C64, now that I think about it.

This one was the real dogs bollocks. Countless exams ruined

He would literally have to get the rest of his team for 10M a pop, not that it matters: Blanchflower with Matthews and Best on the wings? I could play and you wouldn't notice.

I somehow think if you were playing in the team...someone would find an obligatory youtube video and do a hard sell on your ability to tuck in from a wide position, and simultaneously keep your man in check, and attack.

So this is what we will do for nominations for round 3 - FA cup Winners

Anyone who has nominated 2 or less players can send two nominations to Balu. He can lump on 8 players from that list ( using randomizer if more are with him) when the current bid list is down to at least 10 players.

Once the bid list is further down to 10 players,, we will lump in the remaining nominations ( inviting more if needed)

He wouldn't need to play, just sell himself to the referee who'd award them 3 free goals.

For clarification, is this limited to English FA Cup winners or does it include the Scottish and other national cups?

I still have that, it runs at a million miles per hour but it works. Does my head in not to be able to save formations though, always played differently home and away and each and every game you have to feck about with it.

Nah, I was better known as Chaka-Chaka in the Uni leagues.

I really don't get this nomination stuff. Surely it is better to keep players under wraps for as long as possible and wait for people to be skint? Not sure about the snake, the problem with the snake is if you are left with a critical position to fill but aren't high in the pecking order (or even being thereabouts but not top) you could get royally fecked.

Or you could be a bit sneaky and nominate players in the wee hours, with no one around, and put a decent price but one that isn't right if you slap 10M on top once people wake up. Balls, I knew I had an advantage at this, just didn't know what it was yet...

I like that...

But, yes - you've a point.

Stil, you CAN do what you propose in bold above: The pool is big enough for some players (or so I delude myself into thinking, at least) to either slip under the radar completely or be of a kind which suits YOUR theme significantly better than anyone else's. And these players you can probably keep under wraps until one of the later rounds: Remember, the categories here are very broad. Not difficult at all to save players X and Y for a rainy day - and then pounce when most other managers are done with their serious shopping.

The last category is completely open. The forward/winger category comes late. If you have some extra millions come those rounds, you can probably land your under-wraps players with relative ease.

*He thought out loud to himself, realizing he no doubt should've just kept his gob shut*

I think...maybe...this:

...is the game I'm thinking about. Not sure, though - there were many of them. The one I remember was 100% text based - no game graphics at all.

And a belated welcome to the one player who above everyone else in Manchester United's glorious history deserves the name of...legend:

When I used to hear Muhammed Ali proclaim to the world he was the greatest I used to smile. You see, the greatest of them all was an English footballer named Duncan Edwards.

Woohoo! That's OLD - I believe that is even slightly before my time as a gamer. Early 80s? I remember playing it later on, probably in re-programmed form. Was that actually an arcade game originally - or am I trippin', as they used to say?

@Balu
@crappycraperson

10 player limit will be reached (hopefully) at Hansen bid finalization at 04:00 hrs. Seeing you can nominate 2 players, I would like to nominate

John Terry - EAP 20m (04:00)
Ashley Cole - EAP 20m (04:00)

If only one nomination, choose Terry.

Mail them to Balu

Also have you nominated more than 2 players already? My understanding is that you have

No, but I remember this one. The giveaway is the way all the players lined up running in celebration. It was relatively easy though, there were 3-4 moves that always ended up in goals.

Tekhan-World-Cup-juego.jpg

And there was a Nintendo one where players' eyes popped out when tackled hard, then they stayed dead on the pitch for a while... one where the keeper always invariably jumped AWAY from the ball, for some reason.

If you want to avoid unbid players, don't let them in.

Way I see it, the "I'll nominate Heskey" scenario isn't going to happen here in any shape or form. Nobody will be interested in a player who has been nominated PURELY as a ruse.

What might happen here is that people will nominate players who deserve to be in the relevant category and who might be of interest to them - but they won't break down in tears if someone else gets them. That's the worst case scenario, if you will. Most people will nominate a player they indend to get.

Making it a non-bid deal allows for the possibility of certain neutrals to nominate players in a scenario where there's a dearth of good options - which could plausibly happen down the line, when people start to get their teams together and aren't desperate for players.

If you go for the nominations - as opposed to just let people bid freely for whomever they want - I think this is the best way to go.
