All Rossi transfer speculation here please

Any legs in this?

Sky don't seem to be giving it much attention

Everybody is being very precise in this thread!

It's a bargain by Carroll standards, but on any sane basis it's too much.

Yes but only a little bit and sometimes thats what it takes to sign one of the top young players in a position. Rossi has again shown this season that he is one of them. In a reasonable time Rossi would be well worth Spurs paying £20 million or so.

Love how you shred his claim to pieces with your logic and reason based argument.

you have to start somewhere. Sometimes pointing out the blatantly obvious can cause people to reconsider.

we had 60 million quids worth of talent on our books in pique and rossi.

shame they didn't find their potential at utd.

They didn't want to hang around to reach that potential!

Rossi had Tevez arriving and was sitting behind Rooney, Saha, Ole and Smith (the latter two still on the books). Smith was sold shortly before Rossi departed and Ole retired before the end of August. Had he known Ole and Smith were leaving perhaps he would have remained but doubtful. I believe he bought into his own hype, probably encouraged by his advisers to seek match play elsewhere.

Pique wasn't breaking the Rio-Vidic partnership anytime soon. And it wasn't like he could see into the future and predict Rio's injuries. Plus Evans was rated very high and Brown has signed an extension.

And we got Eric cantona for peanuts. The point is would he improve them? He'd be ideal but I doubt he'd have gone there anyway. The cost don't really matter. Sometimes you get bargains, sometimes you pay extra but what counts is the difference they make.

From the Spanish gossip columns.
Barca may be offering Bojan + (30m?) cash in exchange for Rossi.

And Inter have been asking about him too.

He might be better off in Italy than at Barca and sit on the bench. I hope wherever he goes, he will play regularly and play great, I still like him

I didn't realize he'd knocked in 32 goals this year. Perhaps that's whats driving up the axing fee.

Might even do a better job than Villa for them...if he gets the games.

I can assure you 1.2m is not peanuts especially in 1992.

you have to remember though that fees quickly got out of control...when you look back it was cheap. There's no other way of looking at it. We soon made our money back no worries.

He's too good to be a squad player and I don't think he's best used wide of a front three -although he was good in an even more conventional role at Parma I think? - so I'm not entirely sure I'd see the logic on his part in making the move. Unless they want Messi in a different role. I dunno, it's hardly outside his comfort zone to play Pedro's role it just seems strange imagining him in a regular wide role. Could've said the same of Villa last year mind.

Really would strengthen their attacking options though, something they needed with Bojan being a bit useless.

You do realise that doesn't stop him from signing for any other club dont you?

Yes, just expected a statement from ourselves or summat regarding not wishing to want to take up the option etc. Pleased for the player himself though, not often do you get a second shot at a big club.. is this confirmed news?

Pique and Rossi both at Barcelona...they'll probably sign Markus Neumayr next.

Wow. That's surprised me.

Any idea what fee has been paid?

We all knew he was going to be good...Fergie knew he was going to be good...but when he left he wasn't good enough to be starting for us, and he wanted to play week in, week out. He got that opportunity at Villareal, and has proven his case.

I don't really have any regrets, or feel like he is one that got away.

My only regret is that it seemed clear that signing Tevez was going to see Rossi leave. And then we replaced Tevez as well. So in the end we let 2 good players that people got attatched to move on and gained 1 in Berbatov

So has it actually been confirmed that they've signed Rossi then? If so I've something of a rarity considering he's almost always wrong. Some credit to Ballague who said of Rossi in his first season at Villarreal "He could play for Barcelona". He wasnt the only one to see that

Everytime i watch Villarreal play, he looks head and shoulders above everyone else in that team. Shame he couldn't wait that wee abit longer to establish himself as a United regular

Judas cnut.

:nono:

I was just as upset as you, when he chose to represent Italy, but can you really blame him?

He was barely a teenager when he moved to Italy to play for Parma Youth. And with his family background...it was always going to be tough for us to hold on to him, if it came down to that.

The logic in that first paragraph is fundamentally flawed. Typical of you to somehow try and link Rossi's departure with the arrival of Berbatov.

Wow you really are paranoid.

Its pretty obvious what I'm saying. We lost 2 good players and gained 1, it doesnt seem right and certainly wasnt the optimal outcome.

I didnt like us signing Tevez and Rossi not having the chance, but I got over it and warmed to Tevez. Then he left too - I dont see the point of this series of events.
