Battle on for Rossi

English and Italian clubs are battling it out for the signature of Giuseppe Rossi, according to the Manchester United striker's agent.

Rossi has returned from a successful loan spell at Parma and had been

expected to be given a chance to become a back-up forward at Old Trafford.

However, Ferguson has made it clear that he cannot find room for the

promising Italian, who was playing for the reserves against Altrincham this week instead of taking part in the tour of Asia.

"After the eloquent declarations of Ferguson, Rossi will leave Manchester and there are many clubs, English and Italian, interested in signing him," his agent Federico Pastorello told Radio Marte.

"The price of Rossi today is around €10 million (£6.72 million)."

Parma had been favourites to sign the 20-year-old but appear to have baulked at the asking price although Napoli and Milan are also believed to be keeping tabs on the situation.

I doubt we'll let Rossi go until the Tevez deal is absolutely certain.

so we are going to sell heinze, smith and Rossi now. :(

The main thing is that he deserves a fcking chance atleast. If he doesn't make it when given the chance, then fine he should be sold next season. And clearly if his value is only 6 mil pounds currently,it won't affect us much if we lose a 1 or 2 mil pounds next season.

Yup, very disappointing. It's not like we're flush with centre forwards at the moment or anything either. He seems to be a very handy player judging by what he did at Parma last season, and the only reason I can see that Ferguson wants to sell him is because he wants to give the lad a proper chance at the great career he has the potential for. Quite selfless if true, but I still would kinda like to be selfish and hang onto him for another season.

Nice pic, it looks certain now, I would think United could at least 15 million Euros for him though, if he is sold it should not be to a club in England though

so 6 mill for him today. If we loan him out for two seasons, his value will increase alot. Anyway I'd rather have a youth team product like rossi than a 30 mill tevez.

Seconded, our attack is already pretty good as it is without Tevez. If we sell him now it will come back to haunt us big time within the next 5 years.

Perhaps he isn't good enough and Fergie knows something we don't?

To be fair, he has always seemed like a decent enough striker for me, but decent at best, nothing special.

I dont really see the advantage in selling him... If Smith is on his way out I think there should be room in the squad for Rossi even if Tevez comes....

Rooney, Tevez, Saha, Rossi & Ole

Personally I think the fact that he's not in Asia signals that he's going... Then maybe Fergie doesnt rate him... pity, he didnt cost anything and I dont think we've anything to loose by keeping him for another year at least..

If Fergie don't count on him then sell the f*cker...

£7 m for him is very good. Yes he is young but we've got now three new players in the squad, two who plays offensivly so I don't see him getting a chance. And we are going to play with only one attacker so I guess that the places are filled.

A shame, well yes it is. A little. Because of his talent but I don't mind him leaving if it's better for the club. And winning Premier League last year without him means that we will survive without him ;)

Hoppfully he don't stay in the country and make a trip over to Italy or France or Spain.

I am bemused that Fergie doesn't feel he is worth at least a chance, but i do reckon that Fergie and Quieroz between them should know whether or not it is better value than to keep Rossi or to pay £30m for Tevez. Given that Rossi already plays here and would save us a massive financia outlay, i reckon he has more than enough in his favour to win this fight with Tevez. If Fergie STILL thinks we'd be better off with Tevez, then as Sarni said, he must know something i don't about Rossi.

We might as well just shut down the academy and rely on buying young players. Rossi was praised by all our coaches as the best prospect to come out of our system for quite some time, shines in the reserves, plays spectacularly on loan at a top flight club in Italy (a league that is famous for its defences), and we don't even give him a chance to prove himself in our first team? Very very disappointing if it turns out to be true.

I hope Fergie sees sense and keeps him here. What will really confound me is if he sells Rossi and keeps Smith. Give Giuseppe a chance.

Alex said he wouldn't get many chances with Tevez in the squad, basically saying if he wanted regular football he'd have to go elsewhere. The agent's after a nice bit of commission.

spot on.... I doubt even smith is sold before we knows what is the deal with tevez. SAF won`t sell the two before tevez is pictured in a man utd shirt - this time at old trafford :D

but: if we where to sell either rossi or pique, I`d rather keep the latter.... Im sure if Pique left United would regret that much more than Rossi leaving.

Who was the last untried youngster we let go of Rossi's quality?

If he is allowed to leave it will because either they don't think he is worth keeping or they know he will not hang about to fight for place at OT when he can get a first team place elsewhere.
As the record of Fergie and his coaches is 100% when it comes to keeping or releasing young players I would bet on them being right again

Fair comment, but I've seen this lad play for United 2 seasons ago and he just looks the part, even then, wearing our shirt. I think Fergie will be proved very wrong on this one if he does let him go. Players like Fletcher and Smith, despite not having anywhere near the potential Rossi does in my eyes, have been given repeated opportunities; a crying shame if Rossi doesn't get the same crack. As ever I place my faith in the greater knowledge of Ferguson though

Seems interesting is Fergie picking Dong over Rossi then? Seems one or the other.. Or maybe those that are higher are choosing Dong over Rossi- hmm which one brings the most to the club... Skills or pounds...

Dong has been a disgrace to the good name of our club for a long time, a player bought purely on the strength of his nationality and money making potential. Fell sorry for the lad being used like this really, he has no realistic chance of making the first team. Surpises me that Ferguson would be complicit, perhaps I'm missing something

I wouldn't say perhaps Dong was bought solely for his money making potential because you must we remember we did buy him years ago and then stuffed him in a rubbish league with a rubbish team- hardly the environment to flourish. Maybe we're to blame for his stunted growth. As far as my friends tell me from China he was a very bright player before he was bought.. Hmm.. Agree though at this moment Dong is not EPL material.

Rossi doesn't cost much in terms of wages, and he's already on the team. We should at least keep him for another year, and see what kind of first team opportunities arise.

I feel we're being a bit too cocky over Tevez. Yes we seem to be standing on firm ground in legal terms, but Fergie may be underestimating the power of a few interested parties banding together to cover their collective asses. I won't be surprised if even FIFA or the arbitration courts prefer to wash their hands of this one. Bottom line is, we might end up with no new striker come end Aug, and selling off Rossi (or even Smith) prematurely could well be shooting ourselves in the foot.
