Cristiano Ronaldo will reportedly attempt to force a move to Real Madrid without formally requesting a transfer from Manchester United.
A fresh wave of speculation about Ronaldo dominates the Sunday papers, with Fleet Street unanimous that the Portuguese forward is intent on leaving Old Trafford. However, it remains to be seen exactly how he will achieve his 'dream' move to Madrid.
According to The Observer, Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, 'has been mandated by Real to offer a cash-plus-player deal. Brazil's Robinho and Wesley Sneijder of Holland head the list with which Real hope to tempt Sir Alex Ferguson, with the Spanish club's opening offer expected to be €40 million plus one of the two. Ronaldo, due to go on holiday, is said to be confident that United will accept that his departure is inevitable.'
The Sunday Telegraph goes further, predicting that Ronaldo will use 'dirty tricks' to engineer the transfer. While the player is not keen on making a formal transfer request due to the financial penalties such a course of action would bring about, 'Madrid's argument is that if they are willing to pay up to £70million for him and then pay a net weekly wage of £150,000, both of which are true, then his specific obligation is to keep on making life close to unbearable for United.'
But will there be anyone at home listening? As The Mail on Sunday points out, 'When Ronaldo returns to England this week for his foot injury to be assessed, there will be no one on hand at United with the authority to deal with the issue of his desire to go to Spain. Ferguson has told friends he will not break his holiday in the South of France, while chief executive David Gill is also away, leaving Ronaldo, Mendes and Real sweating on the deal they are so keen to strike.'
Is it right that SAF and Gill are still on holiday. Seem to have been away a long time.
