Ronaldo will be staying with United, However i would like to see if he can come up with the goods this season, transfer saga, injury, what else in store for him.

Hopefully he recovers fully and will upto his best. He will remain at OT as SAF quoted.

I haven't a doubt he will

Out of interest, have Madrid done any other transfer deals at all yet? Is it possible they will concentrate all their energies on this deal and be left up shit-creek without a paddle in other areas of their squad?

They signed Ezequiel Garay but he is going straight back out on loan again. Calderon has been saying thay have a young squad and dont need many signings.

Judging by what I have seen of La Liga last term (which was a fair bit), I'd say Madrid need a lot of improving.

They lost 7 games in La Liga which is a lot really. In the end, they benefitted from having no real rival. Let's be real, Barca were useless at times last season. Guardiola will be shaking things up there, as we have seen already.

In Europe, they have looked a pretty ordinary side for a while now. Their team is composed of reasonable players, but no one that I would really worry about.

I'd be confident of this United side seeing them off if we met them.

As am I. Was only saying what Calderon had put forward as a reason for them putting all their eggs in one basket so to speak. The fact they are enquiring into loans for their theoretical signing of Ronaldo and the absolute fact Calderon has been phoning up George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and their nine pals to try and "acquire" other funds as a back up plan, suggests differently.

Hell, he's gotten so desperate that when the above didn't return his calls he sent some git over to the cemeteries of Hollywood to find Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, and their eight team mates as a reserve squad.

Sven-Goran Eriksson backs Manchester United in Cristiano Ronaldo 'slavery' row

By Mark Ogden

Last Updated: 3:35am BST 14/07/2008

Sven-Goran Eriksson has defended Manchester United's attempts to retain the services of Cristiano Ronaldo by dismissing Sepp Blatter's comparisons between the player and the slave trade as potentially disastrous for football.

Fifa president Blatter suggested last week that there is "too much modern slavery in transferring players", which infuriated United and placed the spotlight on the contract system within the game.

With Ronaldo just one year into a five-year contract at Old Trafford, United are refusing to consider selling the player to Real Madrid, despite the best attempts of both Ronaldo and the Spanish club to bring about a move.
Former England and Manchester City coach Eriksson, now managing Mexico, believes United are firmly within their rights to pursue their current course.
He said: "When he came to Manchester, Ronaldo was a huge talent and today he is one of the best players, if not the best player, in the world. But it's thanks to United that he is the player he is.
"And if Real Madrid really want him, they must be prepared to pay what United really want."
Eriksson warned Blatter that he risked anarchy within football by suggesting that the contracts of players are there merely to be broken.
"There is a lot of money involved for players and for the clubs because football is business today," he added. "There are obviously contracts, but that's not slavery.
"Any work you have, you can't just get up and walk out without paying some sort of fine, or whatever it is. If football really wants to change all the rules, we should all sit down and discuss it.
"But you can't do that overnight. That would be a disaster."

Pele and Banks warn Ronaldo over Real deal

Sat Jul 12, 2:27 PM ET

LONDON (AFP) - Football legends Pele and Gordon Banks both warned Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo against walking out on Champions League winners Manchester United and moving to Spanish giants Real Madrid on Saturday.

The 23-year-old forward has still four years remaining on his contract with United - with whom he also won the Premiership last season - and both Pele and Banks ridiculed both his and FIFA president Sepp Blatter's claims that he was being treated like a "slave".

"You are a slave if you work without a contract or you don't get paid," said 67-year-old Pele, who was in Stoke, central England, to unveil a statue dedicated to Banks and for a charity match for the former England goalkeeper's charity foundation.

"If you have a contract then in any job you have to finish the contract.

"I think that when he finishes his contract, then he should be free to go wherever he wants to go."

Ronaldo, who bowed out of Euro 2008 in the quarter-finals after a 3-2 defeat by Germany, is currently recovering from ankle surgery which will rule him out of the start of next season.

Banks, whose save from Pele in the group stage of the 1970 World Cup finals is generally believed to be the greatest ever, accused Ronaldo of showing a lack of respect to Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

Banks, who was part of England's 1966 World Cup winning side, said he could not understand why Ronaldo, who scored 42 goals for United last season, would want to move away from Old Trafford to Real Madrid.

"I can't understand why he said he felt he was being treated like a slave," said the 70-year-old, who lost an eye in a car crash in 1972.

"If he has just signed a new contract then he should respect his manager and honour it. It's stupid.

"I don't understand what the problem is. He plays for a team that has just won the European Cup and the Premier League. He plays for his country. What more does he want?

"It's like anything in life. If a businessman signs a contract then he has to honour it. It's no different than a professional footballer."

Real Madrid are believed to be prepared to offer around 85 million euros (134 million dollars) for Ronaldo and pay him nine million euros on a five-year deal.

Ronaldo, a boyhood Real fan, has consistently been linked with a move to the Spanish capital since the end of last season.

The management at Real believe that Manchester, who want to keep their star striker, who is under contract until 2012, will be eventually forced to reach a deal to let him go if he wants it.

and the relevance being?
nothing against gordon but why print that?
was it in case anybody might have seen on the street previously with and eye patch and jumped to the conclusion that he had become a pirate and is not to be trusted..?

He may not be quite the same player once he returns, its just a hunch but......
That's the thing about Ronaldo that allows us to hold on to him. Most players would let it effect their game, but Ronaldo is simply too driven to be the best, too vain in his goal of having everyone in awe of him, to let it effect his performances.

I too found that a bit arrrgg-d.

Well its gonna be pretty damn hard to maintain the standards he's set himself...should he have even a relatively poor season then the muppets (jason's of this world) will be out in force saying his heart isnt it it.

Any news on your hamstring injury?

How are you progressing? Wouldn't want you to miss the start of the year.

Villa boss O'Neill "really amazed" by Blatter comments

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has blasted FIFA president Sepp Blatter over his comments about Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo.

He told Sky Sports News: "I think it was pretty poor fare really because if the quotes attributed to him were that Ronaldo should be allowed to leave if he wants to, well it's quite incredible really.

"So a contract's not worth anything? Well, we kind of know that anyway in a sort of cynical manner.

"But I've never seen too many players coming in with serious injuries and facing a long lay-off and saying: 'I know, I think that because I won't be playing any football now for you for the foreseeable future, you should really tear my contract up and not pay me until I get fit again'.

"So it is an amazing comment coming from Mr Blatter, really amazing because, despite what he says, contracts are there, they are drawn up in the first place so that you hope that people would abide with them and, yes it has got serious connotations. I must admit it's a pretty bold statement and one that wouldn't have gone down too well certainly at club level when you are trying to hold onto your players."

Wonder how Ronaldo is feeling being the only person in the world at the moment to agree with Blatter over his comments. Probably too stupid to even understand what he was agreeing too.

I read somewhere, not sure where, someone saying Ronaldo is rather naive and gullible. This person I think is within the united setup, think it may have been Paddy. I would have to agree with that person. Seems every time Ronaldo is away from the club for a short period of time he gets 'brainwashed' and feels compelled to continually state his desire to play elsewhere and deserves more then what he is already receiving yet when the season kicks off and he is back with his teammates and coaching staff he has nothing but positive comments to make about life at the club and sounds like a decent human being.

Is it all a mockery as the season goes on? Does he genuinely mean what he says at the time about the club, the coaching staff and his teammates? Is he only speaking positively in order to keep the peace and make his life easy whilst he solely focuses on playing football until the season is over and away from everyone, which then allows him to voice his 'true' thoughts about everything?

I think this kid seriously needs to smarten up. Whilst his football has shown great maturity over the years, his brain hasn't. He is 23 years of age, he has been an adult for 5 years now, the likes of Rooney who is slightly younger is now married yet Ronaldo is still allowing people to change his mind so freely and orchestrate his every move as if he's a puppet. 23 years of age is still young and people still make mistakes regardless of their age, but Ronaldo, I feel is acting like a little child who still needs his parents or guardians to take responsibility for him and make all his decisions because he isn’t yet responsible, mature or old enough to make them on his own.

Upset with the Ronaldo situation?

I am not denying his importance to the club, but I am also not afraid of losing him. My admiration of Ronaldo the player is not turning into hatred as I realise he is going to leave. It's not like a women who scorns the love that was once unquestioned - I have not developed a hatred for the once beloved Ronaldo.

World class players come, and go. Proper fans don't follow United because they have Ronaldo playing, or because they are successful - they follow the team. He was fantastic whilst it lasted, but he want's to move on, so must we, and we must accept that fact. Why is that so difficult to understand?

Football, or any business is not about pride, or principles. We need to move forward, and buy replacements who will not cause a circus, and be talked about more the team.
Fair enough Sultan. You must alsor elasie though that most who have taken to disliking him have done so mainly because of the direspectful manner he has acted towards United and the fans. If he had just left it to I'm really interested in playing for the club I've supported since I was a boy, please understand, I doubt people would be so bitter.

Anyone got the lyrics to the alleged anti Ronaldo chant which was sung at the Aberdeen game according to that mirror link?

Sounded like a modified version of Viva Ronaldo to me...?

Edit: Sorry that mirror links talking about the reserve game. I could have sworn I heard something to the tune of Viva Ronaldo at the Aberdeen game as well though.

Definitely agree with the last bit and like all immature people, loves everyone fussing over him. That's why I take little notice of these Madrid 'dreams' bollocks. The problem is that too many people know this and - like Calderon - attempt to use it to their own advantage. Sure, he should sharpen up, but it's the others who are more the bastards here, the ones playing on these weaknesses.

Those bastards are not true United fans. Ronaldo currently needs our moral support, and fans should show their support and show that they care for him and want him to remain in Manchester, not those barbarian songs.

He is still immature in his thinking, selfish, as evident from his actions.

Btw, some fans are waving banners protesting against Ronaldo.

United fan Johnny Hampton said: "The fans are the slaves not the players. I started work at four this morning and come straight here to watch the Reds.

"I've not finished paying for my trip to Moscow yet and I will have to work Saturday and Sunday until September.

"It takes me seven years to earn what Ronaldo gets in a week and although he is a great player it is time for him to go, and go soon."

If my wife is unfaithful, I would say she is as complicit as her lover.

Yeah Hycool disgusting that people should not offer Ronaldo 'moral support' and be more sympathetic to his horrible situation.

Beckham Urges Ronaldo To Join Madrid.

David Beckham has added to the Cristiano Ronaldo saga by stating that the Portuguese forward should move to Real Madrid this summer.

The Spanish champions' public pursuit of Ronaldo has attracted the attention of the world’s media since the player cast his future in doubt in May, with everyone from Pele to Sepp Blatter offering their opinion on the protracted deal.

Beckham blazed the trail that Ronaldo is intending to follow this summer, when he moved from Manchester United to the Bernabeu in 2003. He now risks incurring the wrath of Sir Alex Ferguson by encouraging the star-turn to exit Old Trafford.

The 33-year-old Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder enjoyed a relatively successful four-year stint in the Madrid, culmination in a 2007 La Liga triumph.

The ex-United number 7 revealed that he believes Ronaldo would be a ‘tremendous’ acquisition for Madrid. Ronaldo has been notoriously coy about his intentions for next season as he recovers from an ankle injury.

Beckham is adamant that the 23-year-old should move on from the Champions League winners this summer and move to a club for whom ‘all the best’ players want to play.

He told the News of the World: “If someone asked if Cristiano Ronaldo should go to Madrid. I’d say ‘Yes’.

“Real is a dream for any player so, of course, he would be a tremendous signing for Madrid and their fans.

“All the best want to play at the Bernabeu during their careers. It is a unique experience in football.”

I can't believe Beckham would say that. :(

I though Becks was a true United Fan.
