Always good to see increases in the amount of sponsor ship we bring in.

I can't see us ever selling the name to OT, the training ground is one thing. But OT would cause serious problems among many fans. It would take stupid money to make us do it, and even then the majority of people will go on calling it Old trafford anyway.

Manchester United sell naming rights to training ground for £150m

• Club secure eight-year agreement with Aon
• United 'will never sell naming rights to Old Trafford'

Manchester United have sold the naming rights to their training ground as part of a sponsorship deal with the insurance firm Aon, the club's current shirt sponsors, estimated to be worth $230m (£150m).

The eight-year agreement with Aon starts in July – from when Carrington will be known as the "Aon Training Complex" – and is a further sign of the club's off-field money-making abilities.

However, United have said that they will never sell the naming rights to Old Trafford. "Old Trafford will not be sold," United's executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, said on Sunday.

Aon's name currently appears on United's main match kit in a $130m, four-year deal but General Motors' Chevrolet division takes over that sponsorship in a $559m, seven-year deal from the 2014-15 season.

Financial details of the new Aon deal were not publicly disclosed but it is estimated to be worth $230m over eight years and will also see the company provide United with business expertise.

United bought out their previous training kit sponsorship deal with the express delivery and freight firm DHL early in a bid to secure more cash, with that agreement having been worth around $65m over four years.

It would be fun to know how much our marketing income has increased over the last 2 years. The first number that popped into my head was £50 mil - but after thinking it over - it probably is closer to £75 mil

That is amazing! The sponsor deals we have been cutting for the past few years have been very impressive.

So that's the debt cut nearly in half again(obviously this money isn't going to come in one total lump sum), but still debt of 350-380mil cut by 150mil!

We just need one more huge deal somewhere along the line and BOOM!

That's crazy...with these new sponsorship deals, increased TV money and soon to be re-negotiated kit manufacturer we should see this debt gone within a couple of years. It's all looking very good and with FFP also round the corner we are going to be years ahead of the competition.

I'm seriously tempted to revise my views of the Glazers.

That is a feck ton of money for something that has no value whatsoever.

Rename Old Trafford and there back to being cnuts.

United are also understood to be close to announcing a £100million-a-year tie-up with a leading airline following the end of their agreement with Turkish Airlines.

None of the signed nor planned deals will affect Old Trafford, which “will not be sold”, said Ed Woodward, the United executive vice-chairman who replaces David Gill as chief executive in the summer.

Is that a typo on Mark Odgen's part? That would make it comfortably the most lucrative deal we have full stop and its for our airlines partner?! Maybe he added an extra 0.

When does the Nike deal get renegotiated?

2015. I really don't know what to expect from the manufactures deal, I thought it would be inline with what Madrid got last year with Adidas but considering the deals we have made over the past year or so I wouldn't be surprised if we broke some sort of record.

It has to be.

Only explanation is some sort of attempt by the Citeh lot to justify their own deals

We should created Manchester United branded ice and sell it to eskimos. 200 million for 12 years, I'd estimate.

We are just the ultimate marketing machine, selling the rights to our training complex, absolutely madness.

Does anyone know how much Arsenal and City made from selling the rights to their stadiums?

Don't know the official figures for Arsenal but Emirates are paying them £150m over five years from both shirt and stadium sponsor. City signed a deal with Eithad worth £400m over 10 years but we all know that's a over inflated value.

So basically we're effectively getting nearly as good a deal for our training kit and training complex as Arsenal are for their stadium and kit sponsor. Not bad going.

According to http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/a/arsenal/3715678.stm Emirates paid £100m for 15 years naming rights and 8 years as shirt sponsors. It was renewed just last year (http://www.arsenal.com/Emiratesnewdeal) with Emirates paying £150m for 5 years shirt and training kit sponsorship and the naming rights now lasts until 2028. So it's a bit hard to tell how much they get for the naming rights when it's included in other deals, but if you compare it to United's current sponsors we currently get £20m from Aon (shirt sponsor) and £10m from DHL (training kit).

City's deal with Etihad also includes shirt sponsorship and that whole "Etihad Campus"-thing. According to http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jul/08/manchester-city-deal-etihad-airways Etihad pays £400m over 10 years for the whole package, but it's fairly unlikely another company (outside the UAE) would've paid that, so it's not really comparable to anything. Still, we'll seemingly top that figure without selling the stadium naming rights.

In the last link Daniel Taylor claims that Emirates only paid £2.8m a year for the stadium naming rights in the first contract with Arsenal. Bargain for Emirates.

Cheers Wowi. You have to hand it to the glazers and their team, they really know how to maximise on our brand. I doubt any of the rest of the PL would be able to do what we've done.

If FFP does kick in properly, we'll be a true heavyweight in the market.

Yeah, got to be. Even 100 million as total value of a airline sponsorship seems too much probably let alone 100 million a year.

Btw, wonder whether AON do insurance for the club too ? Or Underwrite them ?

Would make sense to have it part of this partnership as it costs a bit otherwise.

When does the Nike deal get renegotiated?

If you want to believe the media, they are negotiating now and Nike have 6 months exclusive negotiations. Probably going to be announced towards end of this year/early next year.

Says in the article that they will offer business advice...

This deal seems to go up every where i read it.

BBC: £120.
Guardian: £150
Mail: £160
Telegraph: £180.

Will this mean that fans can start visiting the AON training ground now? At the moment its like fort knox.

Excellent! It won't be long now before we get that stadium expanded.

But seriously, credit where credit is due, the Glazer's are doing a fantastic job of paying the debt off.

Why would they care if people actually visit it? They just want their name to be used in all the articles that currently says "Carrington".

It is well known that United never let fans visit Carrington during training. The club have gone to great lengths to ensure training secrets are not known.

No reason why a new sponsorship will change that.

Don't they have 1 open training session in Spain where the fans are allowed?

Depends on the manager, i guess. What's it like with other clubs in England?

The annual training "open day" at OT will no doubt become "AON day"..... and they'll probably have a massif AON motif sewn into the grounds somewhere, visible from all the nearby airways from below 20,000 ft....

The Russians have landed at United: Old Trafford outfit agree multi-million pound sponsorship with dodgy airline

Russian airline Aeroflot is to become an unlikely addition to Manchester United’s global roster of sponsors in a multi-million-pound contract to be announced this summer.

Aeroflot, majority-owned by the Russian Government, will be the official airline of the Premier League champions-elect from next season — taking over from Turkish Airlines.

The choice of Aeroflot from a sponsorship sector in which United would be spoilt for choice seems surprising. The accident-prone former Soviet airline has had a particularly poor safety record over the years — especially on internal flights in Russia.

But Aeroflot have embarked on a major modernisation of their fleet and the huge United sponsorship is seen as a way of overhauling their image around the world. It is also hoped it will improve the reputation of Russia’s airline business as a whole ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

However, it is expected that the sponsorship details will only require the United team to travel with Aeroflot when they fly to and from Moscow. Aeroflot have followed Russian energy giants Gazprom, the Champions League sponsors, into the high-profile European football market.
