Alexis Sanchez | Udinese: No Deal Yet

I say we grab the next Sanchez, Modric or Sneijder from the smaller clubs before they become the expensive, popular, picky bastards we're unable to get.

What are you on about. Answer the question. You're saying that Barca are invincible. Explain Hercules. Explain Madrid in the Cup final.

I didn't say they are invincible. I said they have the best first team in world football. They have a strong squad (the youth) and Sanchez would make them even stronger. I said if anyone could win 5 in a row, it would be Barcelona. You said never write united off. Don't you think we should actually see what happens over the summer?

What were Barcelona's priorities? Do you think Barcelona are crying because Madrid won some cup Barcelona probably don't even give a shit about? Do you think they care about losing to Hercules....no one said they were't beatable

However as it's a United forum, how exactly would we do that? How would we beat them?

Must say I am really shocked. Never thought he would want to join the best club side seen in football possibly ever.

Really am surprised with these developments

That's what we do and always have done, to the caf's great displeasure of course. How dare we pursue the next big thing at decent value when the latest flavour of the month is going, going, gone for a king's ransom? :smirk:

You say that but you don't know that. I remember when we bought Vidic and Evra and people were saying the same thing. There's a bigger picture here. Having said that i'm sure there are other players we're looking at anyway

Sanchez isn't the first and won't be the last "big name" we miss out on if the rumours are true.

How is Sanchez 'signing for Barcelona on Monday' if the transfer windows for Italy & Spain don't open until July 1st?

I know that. We have a history of it. I just feel if we don't make a statement then psychologically we won't do much better. I'm incredibly optimistic about our future having watched the youth teams. Its just concerning that our style of play, plays into their hands. Sanchez is unpredictable and that will be a great signing for them. Bastards

And that rather than how he fits into this United side blessed with superb wingers and who've just added a player in Young who operates in a similar role(adaptable to wing/behnd the striker)is what fuels this nonsense more than anything.

Yes, Sanchez has great ability and plenty of scope for improvement given his age, but is he worth £30m at this stage in his career and would that sort of sum be justified when SAF has already all but done a deal on yet another winger/versatile forward to add to our collection of them? The answer from the club's POV I suspect is no although he is without doubt a proper player in the making.

I also doubt we'd have moved for Young if we knew this guy wanted to come here above all else, the fact we did suggests the theory he's more interested in Barca might have something in it.

How is Sanchez 'signing for Barcelona on Monday' if the transfer windows for Italy & Spain don't open until July 1st?

You do know we've completed the signing of Jones despite our window not officially opening until the same date don't you? Aswell as Madrid snapping up Sahin, Juve getting Pirlo etc.

Doh. My mistake.

Sanchez to barca makes sense. Sanchez to united does not.

Im not saying we were not interested but i am honestly not disappointed by the latest developments

luxury player.

If he does go to Barca, there is a good chance he might weaken their team, much like Ibrahimovich. Pedros, who i assume he'll replace, biggest asset is his off the ball movement and from what i read about sanchez, he is a more direct player and looks to create his own space with the ball at his feet. whats that old saying , "too many cooks spoil the broth"

We've paid a kings ransom many times.

Thinking about it from Sanchez' point of view it was really an easy choice.

He's South American and Madrid and Barca have always been the preferred choice for South Americans. There is the climate, the style of football, the language and the lifestyle which give them a massive edge.

Add to that the chance to play in one of the greatest club sides ever and the chance to win things almost immediately.

Really, we never stood a chance once Barca came calling.

Yeah it stings like feck but it's harsh reality. The fact we have clearly been in for him and inquired about Ozil gives me hope that Fergie is keen to add one more versatile creative player to the mix this summer, and maybe we will now look at Juan Mata.

How is Sanchez signing for Barcelona if they want to sign him, Rossi and Fabregas?

They quite clearly don't have the money to buy all 3 yet and Sanchez is arguably out of 3, the least of their concerns. Paying 35 million for Villa last season was absolute stupidity considering his age and I think Barca have realized this. 70 million for Zlatan was even worse!

If he does indeed go to Barcelona - and SAF had identified what he can bring as essential to the United team (I'm assuming it's true that we bid 30.5m) I'm wondering who else is under the radar who could fulfill that role.

I was thinking the exact same, some reports are that they're close to signing Rossi, they could'nt afford Sanchez if that was true, or vice versa if they're close to securing Sanchez.

Although a part of me is sceptical as to their transfer funds actually being €45million, it was a strange move revealing it, with the way they go about their transfer business it would'nt suprise me if they did it to lower prices of any player they're interested in. Just a thought.

Either way I'm hoping they sign Rossi very soon.

They have said that they will be prepared to dip into next year's budget if the situation necessitates it. They also have a position of strength in that they possess quite a few players who are surplus or close to surplus to requirement who are still damn good, who can be used in part exchange.

Thats 100 million euros worth of players

30 each for Rossi and Sanchez and 40 for Fabregas.

If Barcelona are actually trying to lessen their debt, their transfer kitty will come from sales given they've been losing over 70 million every year for the last 3-4 years.

You could say that, Zlatan, Milito, Bojan are all up for sale.

Thats roughly 50-60 million worth of players. That will get them Fabregas and half of either Sanchez or Rossi.

Regardless of what reports say, they won't sell Villa unless they get stupid money from City.

Udinese have also stated they're not interested in part exchange players either. They want cash.

With so many players being linked with Barcelona I wonder if they would consider a bit for Thiago Alcantara. He's 20 yrs old, a midfielder, a Barcelona's product and would certainly improve our CM.

almost impossible to lure him away from Barca.

Barca can spend the money on Sanchez as they dont need Cesc right now and can wait for another season or two

Fabregas will end up to Barca sooner rather then later which means 2 world class playmakers ahead of him. Considering that Barcelona already have Busquets and Xavi ahead of Thiago in the pecking order then maybe getting him would not be that difficult especially if we promise him first team football.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now, when the world comes in
They come, they come to build a wall between
us
We know they won't win

If Barca are truly interested in the kid then we won't get him. Lets face it guys at the moment Barcelona can spank our arse both on and off the pitch. Its quite a shame that in the past years we preferred 'value' signings on minimum wage like Obertan, Toxic and the tramp boy on the flanks to him since we could have signed him quite easily. Now he's quite out of our league.

However there are other alternatives around who are equally good.

Tramp boy

in short, he wants to go to barca but the club is trying to sent him to city because of the money. Some spanish and italian sites are expecting sanchez to sign for barca next week. for this reason most muppets have already abandoned this thread and moved over to the modric one...if modric joins city and sneijder remains at inter, we might have a crisis over here.....unless someone like hazard comes to the rescue..

We can always stick to Gibson or bring in Adam.

Apparently there was a crisis last season when we won the league and a crisis 09/10 when we lost it by one point.

Not bad for a club in crisis.
